I am 70 years young and decided to start sketching/drawing. I did my first face and was perplexed about the hair especially. I came across your video and so glad I did! You are such a talented young man I love the softness, beauty of your style. I was mesmerized! Then I look at your materials, etc. and saw that you even composed the music! Oh my!

Oh Hi Peke Jiron! Thank you so much for coming by and leaving such a lovely comment! Yes, please do the sketching and drawing, I don't think age matters, everybody can do it for sure. I studied classical music at college, and my grandpa was a painter/designer. :)

Would you please do another video on easy way to shade face . From front and side views ..
@armadaliuart3 жыл бұрын
@@karenstanton5405 I don't really like the idea of filming from side, camera has ”DOF” so, the only area in focus will only be in the centre. The rest gets blurry and it's unbearable to watch thst way. Also the drawing gets distorted. ☹️ But I'll try to do short clips with different angles next time, just not the entire video. 😊

Besides using a kneaded eraser you can also cut regular art one's into shapes. I cut stick erasers into sharp angles for fine lines an use it just like a pencil or brush. You also have to be really, really careful about touching the paper when you use graphite powder, it shows up finger and palm prints much easier than shading with a pencil. Beautiful work btw.

This is wonderful. I’ve just been playing with graphite toning (like you do with charcoal and it works well) and want to give this a try since I love brush work too. I have a couple of questions. When you stump I assume you are not pushing the charcoal into the grain of the paper and it’s just to add a layer of graphite ? Is there any reason you didn’t use fine pencil lines for the hair ?
@armadaliuart Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the feedback. I did push the graphite into the paper. NOYes, it's kinda difficult drawing fine lines using paper stump. The reason I didn't use pencil is because I want to see how far I could go with only using paper stump. In my later videos I use graphite powder as my base value and to add details, I simply use my pencils.

Great video! I usually use the grid method so I'm curious about whether or not you are drawing by eye or if you have a faint outline that isn't coming through on the video. If you draw by eye, do you have any good tips on where to start to learn to do that?
@armadaliuart Жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you for the question, I don't use grid because I had bad experience with it. My pencil dented the paper and this leaved a visible mark on the drawing this was like 13 years ago so I've been teaching myself to draw like this 13 years. I also don't have faint outline because then it will fade out once I begin my shading. I draw freehand, start small. Just draw the left eye / the mouth, ect when practicing, don't draw the whole face that will overwhelm you. Place the drawing and the reference photo side by side very close to each other. It'll make it easier to spot differences. And print the drawing 1:1 with your drawing, no scaling up/down. Drawing too big / too small will make it more difficult, find the size you're comfortable with. Lastly, drawing by eye doesn't mean you can't measure. Don't be afraid to measure things with any technic you prefer (pencil&thumb / ruler / any tools). Hope it helps!

I really like the creative ways you find to make it look original with all the different background textures. As an artist I always struggle to make it look less boring but I am afraid to try new things as I don't want to ruin my drawings :/

Thank you so much. I suggest you do mini thumbnail sketches prior to the actual drawing. I did some thumbnail variations of 1 drawing because I'm afraid to ruin it too.
