Hugh presents the most eccentric and thoughtful expression of normalcy bias. Listening to him helps me to temper my own bias towards catastrophizing. The political and economic incentives for stability may make systemic defenses more robust than I perceive them to be. Certainly it will come at a cost, but the inertia of this system may carry it much further forward in time than I think possible.

He’s always seemed to enjoy making his point sound as esoteric as possible… he plays up the role of the brilliant eccentric too much and his ego gets in the way of communicating his point.

When they mentioned people in blue states withholding dollars and getting out of the game, I couldn't help but think about today's act of selling USD for BTC. In that sense a 21st century war is a fiscal one - I don't know if you can ever escape the placing of bets.

America will never default on it's debts because money is debt, therefore more money will always come into existence via debt all over again.
@stopato57723 жыл бұрын
In USA money is credit - hence credit-cards, a great Americian privilege. The default position is when there is no credit - no more room to loan from the future, then ownership of hard assets will come into play, as in the past.

England had the opportunity to address the issues within its borders with respect to the EU… and didn’t… That begat Brexit. The USA had the opportunity to address the lack of listening to the “deplorables” and that begat Trump. These mistakes lead the world closer to civil chaos. All countries need to reassess the services they think they should be granting their Democratic base. They are spending too much and it’s time to cut back, take the hit and stay away from anarchy, which is where the world is heading so, so rapidly.

@theodoremcintosh63733 жыл бұрын
Im not sure i’d qualify his fund’s performance as “really bad”. His fund’s return from 2002-2017 was 6.55% in comparison to 7.03% for the S&P 500 during the same time period. Definitely not the goal of a fund manager but it doesn’t preclude him being knowledgeable about the markets.
