I appreciate your take on this unit, Iray ml19 has 384 sensor and I agree on fov definitively better on sidekick. People including me years ago lol need to understand these helmet mounted thermals in this price range $2500-$4000 are designed to work 100 yards and in perfect environments as the suffer quite considerably in high humidity due to having

Great job if this video was up before Black Friday I would have definitely bought one.

Thanks for the video. I just ordered one. The price, size and portability will go with the PVS-14 perfectly. While hiking in the woods it will give you a great presence of what's in there with you. Plus for security around the home, this seems a must have.

Try, turning the contrast down, it will take away some of that haze, as well as adjusting the gamma and the gain. I’ve also noted that the on screen performance versus the recorded performance is a much different image just my take.

Great video. A testament to the image quality of Iray 384s, but also puts into perspective how important FOV is. As far as being all made and sourced in the US, I ask that anyone who is interested look at the ocular lenses on the StingIR, Sideckick, and Jerry YM monoculars. You’ll notice something pretty interesting 😁

If only the Iray series was as good as Armasight in terms of durability.

@@code4defense745 Yeah that’s one thing US thermals have going for them in general, which is superior build quality of the housings. One example: I’m at a loss as to why the Chinese insist on using fine threaded battery compartments.

What about the latency? This is one of the biggest problems with a lot of the compact units out there and manufacturers rarely give specs on this, but some of the iRay units like the Rico Micro have wonderful images but such large latency that they're very disorienting to use in a helmet mounted configuration while you're trying to walk around. Particularly when panning, you'll notice a perceptible lag between where the camera is pointed and what the display shows. Just as a ballpark figure I'd like to see latency of 50 ms or less.
@code4defense74511 ай бұрын
It’s says 60hz on the manual. But yes it would be disorienting to pan with it quickly.
@noahbthesavagegardener514611 ай бұрын
60 Hz is the refresh rate, so a new image is displayed on the screen every 16.67 ms. That small lag alone is practically imperceptible. But there is an additional signal processing lag that is highly variable the manufacturers usually don't disclose. On larger and higher end units like Trijicon REAP-IR and Eotech CLIP-IR you will have difficulty observing the latency. But on units that are cheaper or are more constrained due to a smaller housing and form factor, signal processing capabilities are more limited and you'll start to see a significant latency, which can be as much as 100-200 ms. A latency that large usually isn't a problem for area scanning or shooting at stationary or slow moving targets, but it's very noticeable for helmet mounted navigation or shooting at long range and fast moving targets. @@code4defense745

I do have a question. It looks like the image of the sidekick is tilted to the left in relationship to the flare breach and. the ML19. I believe I'm having the same problem with mine. Would you look through your sidekick and compare to your natural eyesight and then hold night vision up to your eye. Well, looking through your thermal monocular. I believe That the image is rotated in relationship. to Breach. Perhaps I'm wrong could I get your opinion. thank you.

That was just how I had it sitting. I didn’t have a good way to correct it in post.

I have the same issue with my sidekick 320. When I put it over my left eye it’s canted slightly compared to my natural vision

I'd like someone who claims that you cant make out the image at great distances (300 vs 100 yards for example) of a human being. I have a POS NV monocular as well as a thermal monocular, both rated for up to 100 yards. At 400+ yards I can still easily tell the difference between a dog, a person, a deer, a car, etc. Appendages are blurry but can be detected, movement patterns, etc. How could you claim to not understand identification at such ranges?

As soon as i saw the image, i was somewhat disappointed. The breach is antiquated (i have one) but this doesnt really have the thermal sensitivity i had hoped for....
@code4defense745 Жыл бұрын
This is essentially what I was hoping for when I got the breach a year and a half ago. This is about the same price so I’m not upset. I think it will be a great paring with pvs14
@adyszel Жыл бұрын
@code4defense745 same for me except I've had the breach for around 3 years and the FLIR Boson core was more or less obsolete when I bought it. This seems like twice the resolution but roughly (by eye) similar thermal sensitivity. If I was buying now it doesn't seem obvious that this is better than a 384 res iRay. Field of view is a huge deal as the breach is well under the 40 degrees that a PVS14 is... I believe breach is 28 lengthwise? Any idea what this one is?

Glad I’m not the only one disappointed in the image quality/resolution. I don’t know what I was expecting for the price, but not impressed at all.
