Wow. This is an interesting insight to how the younger people of today think about a possible civil event. I’m just a retired Infantryman, in my late 50’s I went to a lot of “career enhancing schools” Infantrymen have access to in their career so I’m confident that I can defend myself and those I’m with. To get where I am today wasn’t easy, I started out as a blank piece of paper like these kids but it bothers me when I see socialists/liberals screaming they want to kill people that don’t agree with their ideals. The consequences of battle is mind scaring and these people will never be the same again, when they see their friends get torn into pieces in front of them, it’s all different from that moment on. Our youth are just plain spoiled by todays society, nothing more. They think that to succeed you have to go to college and get in debt with student loans to be successful in life which is comical while a 21 year old welder is making more money than the college grad could imagine. also video games have given a lot of those people a false sense of what combat looks like. its easy to feel confident about yourself when all you have to do is sit there smashing buttons. There's a lot of misconceptions about how guns and other weapons work and what it takes to be effective with them in real life, especially when it comes to physical fitness. I get the feeling that a lot of them imagine themselves being perched in a perfectly hidden sniper's nest and hitting shots from a mile away, just like they did in call of duty lol. But you are absolutely right, I'd be willing to bet a lot of them would change their ideologies in a heartbeat once the real bullets start flying and they get a dose of real up close gore. Plus, a lot of inexperienced people would just freeze in those situations and just become cannon fodder at that point.

The young metrosexual warrior sets up his position in a small shack on top of a roof in a large neighborhood and starts to scan his sector and next to him is his partner watching the sector with his/her/they binos looking for any activity to report or engage. Well, since I’m also sniper qualified I expect there to be either a sniper or some observer watching all avenues of approach so, I halt my squad and establish a hasty security perimeter as per SOP just outside of the area the bad guys are likely to be in. I send up two men with me and we approach a vantage point where we can see the area without exposing ourselves. Then I set up my own observation cycle and look for lazy combatants who don’t have any light and noise discipline and it usually doesn’t take long to find them. Often it’s the little things that give away someone’s position such as birds, local inhabitants and other small details. Civilians will avoid going near where they know someone is set up and either stay inside their homes or leave entirely. It usually gets either damn hot or freezing cold as the hours drone on and on and on. Snipers are low priority on getting rotated out in most cases and after a while they start to see things and second guess small movements of things they barely saw. A well experienced team takes all this into account and trains and prepares accordingly. Then there’s the bugs, hopefully you’re not in some jungle where there’s bugs everywhere crawling all over you, most you learn to tune out and there’s ways to mitigate their distraction and you learn to embrace the suck, you’re going to sweat and need to piss so what then? How to you piss or crap while watching your sector? A lazy enemy will move somewhere and take a piss or dump then return to his duties and it’s things like that that I and my men will be looking for. Once located we verify and then report to our higher of what we found then my platoon leader and I will review our map and any sat images for a route to get into the zone without exposing ourselves to the sniper team. Snipers will often have a security squad attached to them to secure the building they’re on top of or an area but they too are low observation and are to only engage when someone enters but, like the snipers, there are lazy soldiers in their squad that’ll make a mistake that I’m waiting for. So the best thing is to bypass them entirely and get inside the area and set up our own operations depending on the mission and amount of men as per METT-T allows. Personally, I’d call in an indirect fire strike but that’ll tip off that we’re watching them so they may respond by replacing them with more snipers or Infantry and increase their security level. And all this before I go into booby trap probing, drone activity and drone camouflage, etc. the average Grunt is highly intelligent with an IQ around 120 before I retired in 2009. For us being stuck in a job doing the same boring task day in and day out is mind numbing and akin to prison. I don’t think liberals are that devoted to embracing the duties as an Infantryman, humping heavy rucksacks at a rapid pace for 24 miles isn’t easy and has to be worked up to.

I wouldn't count on wild game to survive. Having a stockpile is good. I've seen how much it matters during hurricanes. Medical is definitely good to have, but a lot is hard to get your hands on. I have an artificial heart valve, so I know that I will be living on borrowed time. I had a stockpile of blood thinners, but doctors have become reluctant to make stuff like that available. We are still having supply chain issues. During the depression, wild game almost went extinct. The smaller animals were still there, but there weren't as many. I also feel like water sources, and by default wild game will be poisoned after a coordinated attack.

Interesting short documentary. As usual, despite talking a big game, almost none of the people preparing to fight in this civil war are military fit. Most of war involves covering distances quickly on foot and maneuvering, not shooting. They wouldn't even pass the fitness test and would become environmental/physical fitness casualties in a modern conflict. Secondly, what the 3%ers consistently fail to mention is that in 1780, the US population was only about 2.5 million people, so mobilizing 3% of the population only meant mobilizing 85,000 personnel. Not an impossible task. In today's numbers, that would mean mobilizing 10.25 million people, five times the size of the largest military in 2024 (the Chinese military at 2.5M active personnel). An extremely difficult feat. Additionally, without the help of a highly professional and well-funded military (the French), the US colonies would have lost against the British.

Your points are not entirely inaccurate, but not totally accurate either. There are roughly 360 Million people in America. There are approximately 190 Million gun owners. They own about 8 or 9 Trillion rounds of ammo, and about 450 Million firearms. History shows us that it takes about 10% of a nations population to overthrow a sitting government, in an armed civil conflict. If you only count armed citizens... you can figure about 20 Million of the 190 Million gun owners will activate and fight in a conflict. The military will not be a large factor. They have their hands full with the rest of the world. The National Guard has about 455,000 members. A good percentage of them are desk jockeys. They are not all "boots on the ground". And many of them would stand down and return home to be with their families...some of them would fight, some would be passive, when they got home. There are just under 1 Million local law enforcement officers nationwide. If you combine all branches and types of federal law enforcement, you might get another 500,000 in support of the government. So total federal capability would be under 2 Million boots on the ground. Even if the other branches of the military provided support, they still probably wouldn't break the 2 Million mark. So that would be roughly 20 Million citizens vs. 2 Million disjointed government "forces" from a wide variety of different unconnected agencies, that don't have a plan to work together in this type of scenario. The 20 Million citizens would also be pretty disjointed, but would generally have the benefit of home field advantage, and some level of community support. People will say that military has unbeatable technology. Yet we have sat for the last 20 years watching our military lose to Iraq, and Afghanistan. The American military hasn't won a war since WW2. Not because they can't win a war, there is just no will to do what it takes to win a war. The American military never even states what victory means in a given conflict. Its never defined. Now, a good many of those 20 Million fighting citizens would die. But they would still almost certainly win, or at least being down the sitting government. They may not know what to do after the fact though. I guess it would boil down to what ideas arose from the ashes, and what the leadership looked like.

Everyone got their guns and ammo. Everyone’s ready for civil war……but what happens after??? I don’t see too many people talking about life after such a situation. What does government look like after this? How will the economy function after such an event? How will basic services and utilities function? How will schools operate? Everyone rushing to just by guns just seems like a part of our consumerist culture. Everyone is blood thirsty and angry at people who often share the same struggles they have. I feel like everyone knows a civil war is coming but I don’t think anyone is prepared for what comes after that and the possibility that any form of government after that could potentially be far worse than the government we currently have.

What exaclty was your time, because unless you were born before the late cut off stage of being consideeded a milennial, then frankly you succeeded because your pay was in cordination with a great base value of goods and services. Inflation has tripled while pay rate has stayed the same, especially since the pandemic. People in their early 30s cannot even afford a home as a married couple with a good income stream. You ask me, your statement comes from a defense mechanism. You take deep offense when someone says your generation "had it prettt easy". It probably makes that hard work you did as a 13 year old throughout your young adult hood, feel invalidated. Because no doubt sir/ma'm you did work hard, and no one is taking that away from you. But you were able to reap more personal gain from your hardwork than someone at the same age working in the exact same position in this days economy.

We statistically live in far worse times than you financially, if you're referring to the crash of 1987 and the recession of the early 1990s, those are babies compared to the crash of 2008 and the continuous outsourcing of US jobs that happened in the early 2000s but peaked to an all time high in the late 2010's and early 2020's. Heck the early 90s recession that hit in 92 only got better due in part to the continuing and eventual collapse of the Soviet union which rose up 2 years later.
