My mother had to apply for the medal for my dad in the 1997s-1999s because he was wounded in the Korean War, being awarded a Purple Heart, a Sharp Shooter's medal along with many citations, promotions and time in OCS, where he scored no less than 95%. The medal, along with the South Korean Service Medal arrived quickly and we have them displayed prominently. I have a 38th Parallel quarter limited edition as a tribute to my dad. There are many more Korean War services medals and I am in the process of getting them. I carry the Purple Heart challenge coin as opposed to wearing the small, children 's version. It's less opulent, but I am sorry to say that you are incorrect that, once again, the Korean War was left out of the description of awardees. My dad didn't look for glory. He simply did his job and moved to the next, making certain to perform each task at his superior level. We learned later that he had actually been awarded an "expert marksmanship " award . He had been simply the supporter and not the star. However, like almost all of the men and women who served, they were sorely disappointed by their government and citizens who were uncaring of their sacrifices and the lives, and limbs that they gave for the American people. Most of these veterans were quiet and soft spoken, not like the Vietnam veterans who moaned and groaned. The Korean War monument was erected too late for my dad. He died at barely the age of 65. He, like most of these veterans have been dying at unusually young ages of cancer, most likely from a connection to the napalm. I would ask that you update your present information for all the veterans who either did not come back or barely made it to the age of 70. I have been tracking this and plan to write a Korean War veterans Spiritual short stories book that tells the "Miracles" of the war. If one could even say that. Thank you.

Interesting that I have three of these. I spent a lot of time in the Persian Gulf area in my 5 years of active duty. The two little bronze stars where always a pain to place on the ribbon for dress occasions. Thanks.

Does one need to be nominated for the service medals, or simply have served in the theater of operation for the approved expeditions? I was told we would be receiving one, but it was never added to my record.
