Armenia “Cannot Hide Differences” With Russia, But Moscow Vows To Defend Yerevan Against Aggression

Russia is ready to fulfil its allied obligations in case of foreign aggression against Armenia, said Russian Ambassador to Yerevan. However, it is up to Yerevan to decide whether to accept this help, Sergey Kopyrkin stressed. Speaking to Armenia’s 24News portal, Kopyrkin also noted that the issue of the return of Armenians to Nagorno-Karabakh is important for Russia. Meanwhile, Armenia’s Foreign Minister said it is “impossible to hide” the growing problems in his nation's relationship with traditional ally Russia. Mirzoyan also admitted that Armenia is looking for “new instruments of cooperation," he shot down speculation the nation would join NATO.

Armenia is in dangerous condition both geographically and geopolitically. On one hand, they are allied with Russia but on the other hand, they have little chips to offer for Russia to move except their own existence as an ally. Azerbaijan is more useful for Russia (kaching kaching). It's also impossible for Armenia to fully commit to West. They are at the mercy of whether Kremlin wants them to exist or not.
