No country throughout the last 30 years had been as loyal to Russia as Armenia... As Russia was a large power and was Armenia's security guarantor... But when the time came to protect Armenia against its stronger enemies, the Russians turned a blind eye. ​In Sept 2022, Azerbaijan attacked an Armenian city called Jermuk in armenia Proper and took over a large part of the city. Armenia called out to Russia and the CSTO for help but they did not come to the aide. In fact, they called Jermuk "disputed territory". The US/Europe strongly condemned the incursion and US even sent Nancy Pelosi to Armenia and the hostilities stopped. Russia signed the Nov 9 agreement which stopped the war over Nagorno Karabagh, and was supposed to keep open the Lachin corridor (connecting Armenia to Nk) per signature, which it has failed to do. Russia wants Armenia to become weaker (via attacks from Azerbaijan) so that it desperately joins the Soviet Union 2.0 alongside Belarus...

Russia has been trying to persuade Armenia to conclude a peace agreement with Azerbaijan for decades. The Armenians refused to do this and were defeated in the war. Pashinyan recognized Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan. The question is closed.

@@valkrsk Russia sold Azerbaijan $5 Billions dollars worth of military weapons in 2012/2013. 90% of the weapons used to attack Armenia were Russian weapons. That is absurd: Imagine the US selling North Korea or Iran weapons to attack its ally's and calling it "just business".. That would never happen, becuase the US stands for something. The reason why this war was allowed to happen by Russia was becuase Armenia overthrew the kremlin slave and became a true democracy. If you want to no what help Armenia will get from the west go check how NATO treats Greece and Cyprus when they are faced with an aggressive and belligerent Turkey. These two countries are far more geopolitically important to the west than Armenia can ever be but still treated badly in the face of Turkey. So what can Armenia expect from NATO when you are competing with Turkey and oil rich Azerbaijan. Don't kid yourself because you will be bitterly disappointed by the USA. They only act in their own interests just like Russia. Their interest is to keep Turkey happy and get non Russian oil. Armenia will just be a pawn that will get endless promises of help but nothing that will impinge on Turkish or Azeri interests?

@kemalbagci1418 Given, they took more lands(Red Kurdistan) that were not ethnically Armenian at that point (not Azeri too, but Kurdish, Kurds being colonised after XVIII century there as late as 1920s ) to secure the back and flanks and put the border on the edge of the Armenian plateau. But still, that area is their core land, and they lost more than half of the Armenian Plateau to Turks and Turkomans(Azeri). I think the Turkomans of Azerbaijan have enough land in Persia(Iran) and Albania(Azerbaijan), there is no need to give them or the Turks parts of the Armenian Plateau. It's like gifting a killer the goods of the victim. Most of them were nomads anyway, and they ruled Persia like the Qajars. I don't see why they don't unite with Persia, where the rest of the tribes are and where they ruled.

In the writings of Strabo, Pliny the Elder, Claudius Ptolemy, Plutarch, Dio Cassius and other ancient authors it was indicated that the Kura River was the border of Armenia with neighboring Albania (Aluanq) - an ancient state that was a conglomerate of multilingual Caucasian mountain tribes. In the middle of the 18th century, Turkic nomadic tribes began to penetrate into the northern regions of Karabakh, which marked the beginning of many years of wars with the Armenian principalities. Very interesting geopolitics. Armenians have a pretty powerful lobby in the US, and have strong ties with Russia, and potentially Iran because of the large Azerbaijani population who Iran fears will want to join their Azerbaijani brethren in Azerbaijan. Armenians still have pretty cold relations with Turkey, who up until recently has been an US ally and who seems to be turning back towards the West after flirting with closer ties with Russia. This can go many different ways, and I'm not sure how it will all end.
