Damn, I'd absolutely love a tier list for each RTW faction. I have no interest in online play, I'm just here for the nostalgia. There were so many units I thought were awesome that are probably total trash in reality.

Love the Armenia unit roster, my favorite roster in OG Rome total war.

Amernia Legionaries is good unit, if you can rush Rome before 240 BC . If you kill Rome it will be the best all around infantry in the game. You can have an all cavs calvary or a hybrid heavy armor army of 5 Heavy Spear, 5 Armenia Legionaries and 4-5 Cara HA , 4-5 HA . Exellent on both siege or field

It's very interesting to see unit tier list from multiplayer perspective. Most tier lists that I saw were from singleplayer campaign perspective, so it's nice to see something different. It's kinda fascinating that limited archers rule make peltasts a viable choice. In campaign these guys would be trash, not worth the upkeep cost. But what I don't understand is why peasants are not in the lowest rank? Like, how they can be used to make them worth the cost? I always thought they are just here to make chain-routing enemy armies much easier.

If you use them to push back enemy foot archers, they can let you get extra volleys in with your own archers, which can snowball the missile war. They also can be somewhat useful keeping horse archers in less-than-ideal angles.

what terminator said is correct, they are primarily to push back archers/HA, or simply block something. If they encounter a unit that isn't charging them before that unit can enter the charge animation against something else, they can definitely delay that unit substantially. Another thing that they can do is nullify enemy peltast units, since the peltast will want to shoot at the archers, and the peasants can stand just in front of the archers so that they peltasts cannot reach them with their short range. They could also intercept enemy dog units that might be used against your archer line. What you've got to consider is that at 120 denarii, even the most marginal use for them can easily justify taking them.

I forgot Armenia had camel horse archers. Pretty useless haha!

I don't really get the logic. Don't chariots hard counter all melee cav? It's like saying cataphracts are trash because they die when they run into pikes. Or archers are bad because they get hunted down by fast cav??

@@aretiredsubberl7036 yeah that’s why I wouldn’t put any melee cav in S, although I might if I reconsidered it a bit. It’s not that chariots just counter them in the way that pikes do though, because pikes do not nullify the effect of cavalry on the battlefield the way through chariots do. The problem with chariots is they serve so many of the same functions that melee cav do, so I see chars as the s tier units in that class.

@@aretiredsubberl7036 for example, peltasts dying to cav doesn’t make them low tier, but peltasts being dominated by archers which are essentially the same class of unit, does.

I think catas are s tier, armenia is one of the strongest factions because of them. Archers alone don’t make a faction strong like thrace. so heavy cav is straight up better i think

I can't put a unit in S tier that gets trashed by a unit that costs ~650 denarii (egy chars) Plus catas have some real limitations as a unit in general (cardio, speed) . Of course your primary cav unit is more important than your primary missile unit, so catas are in some sense more essential to armenia, but thats not the only consideration for me. For ex: Spain would be worse off without long shields than without Balearic slings, but id be insane to not rank long shields below Bals in a tier list.
