The thing with this is that Armin's interest in the sea is different from Eren's. While Armin was curious on the outside world's existence and the knowledge it would give, Eren wasn’t focused on the outside world at all, but rather the freedom it symbolized. To him, it didn’t matter whether he'd really get to see the ocean or not, only that he had the freedom to do so. Looking back, you can actually notice a lot of moments near the end of season 3 where Armin begins to notice this difference in mindset, and Eren and Armin’s friendship begins to drift apart. Especially at the very last scene with the gang at the ocean, where Eren realizes that the ocean never gave him any freedom at all, and that the world was much bigger. Compare this to Armin, who had just arrived at the place of his dreams. His smile disappearing and his arms slowly dropping after it really sets in how different his ideology was compared to Eren. Though they both chased the ocean, Eren was looking at something else entirely.

Armin, who is a curious bookworm wants to go outside to see the natural wonders of the world, whilst Eren wants to go outside for the sake of freedom. He doesn't care about lakes of salt or mountains of fire- but he knows they exist and knows that he and everyone else deserve the chance to see them. @@fingolfin7295 bro I think you didn't quiet get my comment , I wanted do say that diffrent people see diffrent things as change , like you say he hasn't change because his character assets remain the same and he gained experience over it But in my opinion his character is more changed than developed, earlier he was only focused on what's in front of him instead what's ahead but now he knows that's everyone is right in their own way or reason, he doesn't even say that he is correct he just counters the opposition's argument by twisting it that's contrast to that when he was tied to judgement in season one , he couldn't even argue with the opposition's POV and just blurt out his own condition I know what you mean by that the essence is same , but he have changed if you see from other point of view like eren did

It just shows how amazing the writing of attack on Titan is, when Reiner and Bertholt transformation I was genuinely saddened knowing that their friendship and camaraderie would never again be the same and when Eren went off on his own and we found out just how that happened it really felt like the friendship that I had believed in and felt through those characters had vanished. Eren’s turn to extremism was set up from the start and has more impact than just about every other show can pack into a season.

Really small plot hole i noticed: The scouts never really used the idea of a hot air balloon, even after the fake government was taken down. Titans are mainly land creatures, so looking around past the walls should be way easier and safer with a controlled balloon.

It’s awesome how Eren was searching for freedom from the start. When armin opened the book he saw that there was more out there, but he never expressed specific interest in the sea or desert or lava or anything. He just fought for freedom. It’s incredible to see armin slowly realize that Eren never cared about the sights. He just wanted to destroy all of the walls in the world, no matter the shape or size, and no matter why they are there. Eren took so many L’s his whole life, he was simply tired of being what the world allowed him to be. He wasn’t fighting for humanity or for his mother or even because he hated the titans, he was fighting for himself. At this point he’s basically telling all his friends “you’re cool, I won’t hurt you guys” but he doesn’t really care about how they feel at all. What an incredible character. He’s always been a psychopath, but just lived his life the way society taught him because it was good enough. His transformation into a Titan was the catalyst which would allow him to quit neglecting what he desired most in life and actually move forward toward fulfilling those desires. Everyone else saw it as an opportunity to fight back against the titans, but he was already thinking bigger. He only got angrier as the series progressed as his rise wasn’t as easy as he thought his abilities would allow. Still, he worked hard, and kept his head facing forward toward each next step. He thought that if he reached the sea he could be free, but in truth his battle wasn’t over. So he began a plan instead of rushing into everything headfirst like he used to. This time, he would destroy all of his enemies once and for all with the rumbling.

I think something else that's important, is that Eren always wanted to believe that the ocean would symbolise their freedom. However, he doesn't get to see the ocean for the first time with Armin. Armin gets to see it with all of his friends, and enjoy the beauty of it. Eren saw the ocean one year earlier, in the memories of his father. In this memory, he watched Krueger murder soldiers, and watched the ocean swallow up their bodies as though they never existed. Eren doesn't see the ocean as a symbol of freedom after that. He just sees the ocean as another cruel thing in their world. Eren doesn't even get to fulfil that dream, of seeing the ocean for the first time himself. It's taken away from him, and replaced with someone else's memory of it. Just a really cruel moment. And throughout that arc, the question 'What will you do once you've achieved your dream' is asked. Eren's dream is stolen from him, but it is achieved, and after that, he kisses Historia's hand..... He doesn't even get to decide what he'll do, he's already seen it.
