An archery master advised his students in a Mamluk training manual that they should enter the archery range with the same reverence that they would enter a mosque. With a calm mind, quiet, under control, and collected. he also when on to say that the archer should pray 2 raqats (non obligatory prayer) before even touching his equipment.

Woow! I was listening to this last night before sleep and couldn't get it. Now I'm in a train, riding to my work and I completely understood it. For me it worked instantly, I forgot about the people around me, noise of the train and can now only hear that sound. Really good shortcut. Thank you!

Again, simple, consice and to the point. Much easier than fix your mind on a point in space.

That cellphone gag always cracks me up 😁 People often mistake spirituality with religion and this puts them off. But they don't realise it's just being in the moment, feeling everything, and not passing judgement on anything. Feeling the bow physically, much like tasting food and enjoying it, is the best way to practice. Not to mention living. This is why you are my favorite archery teacher. I hope to meet you in person one day 😀

Perfect practice makes perfect. Simply amazing. Archery can be the vehicle. I will listen first for the frequency.

Outstanding video! I like the simile of the smoking while talking to the cell phone and shooting at the same time! ha ha ha hilarious! Thinking too much stops you from being aware. You're not "in" the moment. If I may add, another benefit to stilling unnecessary thinking (and this applies to other skill sets) is that you understand that skills are built upon and everyone does their best. Knowing this, you get to empathize more and share whatever knowledge you have to benefit the others if you can! Win win situation! Cheers!

I felt the bow string slapping my forearm huuuuummmm ROFL! What I like about archery is the feeling of feeling, the second nature, the feeling of progress and getting better. Archery and Martial Arts helps me a lot.

I had not seen this video. I remember that in each practice I must improve to reach a good goal. May every arrow in life be one to be more kind more charitable, with even those who have wanted to hurt me. Because what merits would be gained by doing well those who have been good to me.

Instinctive archery, like many physical disciplines, will quiet your discursive mind and also reveal its chatter! Your intention in all the "steps" of shooting an arrow are not done with a verbal intent of the mind.

The Archer ------ Perfect compassion is devoid of any attachment. Being in the Moment is the action of perfect compassion. The bow has no string. The arrow is not to be found. As long as I remain the archer Such a thing cannot be achieved. © Salskov~Iversen 2013

I am reading the book still and am enjoying it very much. I normally shoot an english longbow, but have been inspired to shoot thumb draw with a horse bow from watching your posts. Keep up the good work, and hope your patreon takes off to.

If you substitute your bow for your god, then yes, you can use a bow for spiritual practice. Any discipline can be used to sharpen the senses and focus the mind, this does not improve spiritual health. The most evil bastard on the planet can have a sharp well focused mind in a healthy body. Been shooting in the bow since I was six so more than 60 years now. It is no more of a spiritual practice than any other martial art... Two advanced belts in different martial arts here also ... so ... YMMV
