Was about to head to bed since its late here in the States. But got the notification of this and had to come watch. The Kheshig, a bow I own thanks to your videos on it, and the Nokhor, a bow I really wanna get. This is an ideal video to see. This is a great, fun video. 2 Great bows, head to head. Alibow are wizards.

Awesome comparison! ☺️ My Keshig sounds a bit metallic and I think the Nokhör sound is nicer (to me) 😁 Thank you so much for this comparison video, dear Armin! I’m looking forward to shoot the Nokhör myself! 😁🙏🙏

I love my Kheshig, its my bling bow and people always comment on how nice it looks. I am wanting to try getting used to thumb draw so need a lighter bow to start that.. I am thinking 30lb Nokhor as opposed to my 50lb Kheshig seems a good choice.

Danke Hello Armin You mentioned that some people are worried that the inserts on the "Arrow Pass" won't last long. - How does it look? So on my Tang Loulan, after several uses, only the paint over the inlay is slightly worn off. - Avoid by Khatra and String Twist, right? Thanks Marc

I don't own either, unfortunately. Historical archery is a sport I'm only considering getting into at this point. But... ...I would probably go for a long Nökhör over the Kheshig, at least initially, based on this comparison. I'm 6' 2" and have long arms, so the longer draw the Nökhör permits is really attractive to me. The fact that it's a bit easier to string helps as well. That said, the Kheshig, especially in it's "Imperial" trim, is a gorgeous bow. (Again) Based on this comparison, I'd consider it an option for a more advanced practitioner, given its more demanding manual of arms. It also fills a niche for an archer who wants/needs the greater hitting power the Kheshig's heavier arrows offer. The maximum draw weight Alibow offers is *just* sufficient to pass many US states' minimum draw weight requirements for bow hunting, for example. Or maybe you just want to use a bow that, whithin the constraints of the contemporary market, lets you throw the heavier arrows needed for engaging armored opponents. Fifty pounds is, after all barely half of what these bows' actual predecessors would have drawn. Overall, both bows seem to be superb offerings. Either would likely make an archer very happy. It's also really nice to see nore Mongol bows offered, especially bows that follow something of a progression in skill.
@jkre
@jkre 11 ай бұрын
The minimum arrow weight doesn't mean that that's what you have to use. If you need a heavier arrow, use a heavier arrow, no matter the bow. Heavy arrow does not damage bows like too light arrows does.
@Xtorin_Housecat_Ohern
@Xtorin_Housecat_Ohern 11 ай бұрын
going off what jkre said, you can definitly use heavier arrows than the minimum recommended. my current primary bow is a 50lb Turkish style bow, minimum arrow weight is 9gpp, i shoot it with 820 grain arrows that come out to 16.4gpp, the bow went from being noisy, questionably accurate, and low penetration at 9gpp to being dead silent, laser accurate (pin nocks are GREAT), and passing clear through the softer parts of my target at 16.4gpp.
@jkre
@jkre 11 ай бұрын
@@Xtorin_Housecat_Ohern be careful with pin nocks if you thumb draw. The pins are known to sometimes snap from the pressure of the index finger, which might end up with dry firing the bow

@@jkre i've had issues with index pressure for different reasons in the past, so i adjust my hand accordingly now a days. but you're right i probably shouldn't have mentioned it as it is NOT a recommendation.

I think you are quite forgetting the purpose of different designes. For example it would be a nonsense to compare Turkish bow penetration power to Manchu bow (adding arrow weight doesnt help Turkish designe to be on the same level as Manchu) But the same goes for example comparing maximal flight distance of a Turkish bow against a Manchu bow (the Turkish bow is in advantage by it´s designe). Both of them at the same/similar poundage and considering their recommended arrow weights. The biggest issue of these videos which I love by the way are unfortunately exactly this: very rarely they consider or question the designe purpose. Some bows also perform best at different poundages. And different techniques (not just style of draw but also release) makes also a difference. With Manchu bow it would be nonsense to do Khatra like with Turkish or Korean bow. My question is also on the durability: it’s for a reason that there is reccomended versus minimal parametres on draw length and arrow weight. Armin didn’t consider in this comparasing video angle of 60 degrees at all! That is another “big thing” at least even for Armin in his older videos. Overall I’m big fan of Armin and very grateful for his videos, it aims mainly for hobby archers of traditional/asiatic style of archery and he is doing phenomenal job with that. He is also great teacher by my point of view. He is not a warbow archer, neither historian expert and he doesn’t have ambitions to get there or including these things into his work and that is absolutely fine, I just would like to point out to these differences in efficiency which makes diffence for some folks there even they are minority. I hope it makes a sense.

If i had the money, i would definitivly buy the nökhör. I prefer the shorter earlier mongol bows compare to the larger later bows that took the size inspired from the manchu bows.

The mightier Nokhor. Will that be its new nom de plume. Such a shame about the Leather around the handle. The Stitching on the Keshig allows me to orient my fingers back to the same grip position, plus it just looks classier. Still a cross between a Mongolian and a Tartar. How can i resist.
