My roommate and I are planning on making Armistice Arcane our first Larp. I've always wanted to do a gothic Victorian character as I'm writing a book with those elements. I'm just trying to figure out if this is something where it's full on Victorian clothing or you can add some Steampunk elements to your character

@alicine-sims89886 жыл бұрын
One of the best things about LARPs is you aren't you, you're playing some character instead. It really helps with social anxiety and everything, and especially with any sort of, "but what will they think of me?" Fear. Because they aren't going to have negative opinions of you if you say something weird, that's just your character saying it. If you really get in character you don't worry so much about social anxiety or lack of social skills. Or even being a generally quiet person. At least that's my experience with roleplay, and if you want to try it out don't let something like social skills get in your way.

I've never been to a larp before, but really want to. With this, was there an outlined story, or where all the characters just kind of placed in the setting and created their own stories?
@KazaMarie6 жыл бұрын
The writers gave us characters that had woven storylines that connected them. Throughout the even secrets were revealed that tied us all to the main story. :)

Very cool! Sometimes I'd like a bit more context or explanation -- you started to do so, but there were still times when I didn't know what was going on. It's still cool when it's mysterious, but I did want to know more of the story. Looking forward to part 2, though :)
@KazaMarie6 жыл бұрын
Part 2 will be next year's event in January. I do try to give enough information about how to get involved, general knowledge of the event and show some of the cool scenes. A lot of times I don't want to ruin plot lines for new players or current players, so I remove some of the narration. I ask the viewers to take a look at the emotion that is driving people and try to hold on to that beauty as they watch. I have been doing a few livestreams to take questions. I hope you'll be there the next time I do one in case you need anything clarified. If you want to know more about the story of Armistice Arcane, I have a few more videos that covered the development of my character, as well as a few of my friends made some videos that are more lore heavy. Sorry for the long response!
@ladyalfhildrforestofvioletmist6 жыл бұрын
Ah, okay, I could see that. I was just wondering things like who poisoned you and why exactly, but I guess I can see how you want to keep the plot secret. I also thought that the plot would be different enough each time that telling us things about this one would spoil the next one, but I guess that's maybe because this one's a larp with character casting so maybe it doesn't change as much from time to time in the big plot points. I think I saw most all of your Armistice Arcane videos leading up to this one. I haven't ever caught one of your livestreams, but I'll keep my eyes open :) And don't worry, I've written plenty of longer comments myself!

May I ask how you captured footage? Iphone or gopro? how did you keep it conspicuous?
@KazaMarie6 жыл бұрын
It depends on the larp. Sometimes I am granted access to use my DSLR. When that is the case, I stay behind and try to cover it up. Set it down on tables or disguise my tripod. I try not to break anyone's immersion, however sometimes it is visible. I also do an announcement before I attend to let people know they can contact me if they don't want to be film and instructions on how to avoid the camera. My camera person and I usually take a lot of measures to make sure we are discrete about what we do. From time to time I used my phone to get photos. My gopro is pretty useful too! I used that a lot for Dragon Thrones. However, it sees more of its use when I'm on the battlefield.

For me, I stay in character for as long as possible. If there is a safety concern or clarification to be made I will talk out of character to prevent confusion.

There are tons of larps out there that allow teens to play but a few larp summer camps that are ran specifically for teens. A few of my friends have gone and enjoyed their time. If you are comfortable letting me know what area you are in, I can recommend an area. :)

The larp companies and I create a contract in exchange for services. I create videos for their experience. I am paid in event fees waved, travel expenses and the time spent editing to produce content for their larp.

How did you know your cup was "poisoned" or did you think it up?
@KazaMarie5 жыл бұрын
We negotiated the scene before it happened. With consent based role play scenes, generally someone will approach you with an idea and the two people decide how it will play out. For this scene, the player said he wanted to poison someone. I volunteered and we negotiated that at some point during the day, he would need to slip the poison in my tea. So I left my tea unattended many times to give the player the opportunity to do so. The giveaway was that the poison was alcohol. So when I tasted it in my tea, I knew the other player had successfully got the poison in my drink. I waited awhile and roleplayed being poisoned. The fun was seeing other people's reactions to it and being apart of others problem solving. :)

I'm late to the party but what type of larp is this considered? It seems very intriguing.
@KazaMarie3 жыл бұрын
Armistice Arcane is an "American Freedom" style larp. They use check in mechanics to navigate roleplay and a story facilitator to deliver plot to induvial factions. The writing team writes up characters for players that are woven together to reveal a larger story. However, most of the rp, scenes and story paths are lead by the players.

Kaza how much of the dialog is scripted. Or is adlib a big part
@KazaMarie2 жыл бұрын
All of the storytelling is improvised. There is a writing staff that operates as GMs and facilitate storytelling elements. The only dialog that is scripted would be the workshops and any big plot points that the players need to understand clearly. :)
