According to wiki and numerous dataminers, armor penetration works as a multiplicative to armor reduction, not as an additive, like you've assumed. So in your example of Barbarian with 20% pdr and your ranger with 25% armor pen, the barbarian's pdr will be redused to 15% (100%-25%=75% of barbarian's base pdr). Another example is that armor penetration doesn't do anything to a taerget with 0% PDR - there is no armor to penetrate, you already do full damage, otherwise armor penetration would be just a damage multiplier, not unlike physical damage bonus. There is also an exception for when a target has negative PDR - armor penetration is not taken into an account.

Which is why, not useless, it's far less useful than most believe. A 75% fighters PDR will at best be reduced by 60% on Rogue, so they will still have 30% PDR, or around 55% for Ranger which leaves them at 34% PDR rounded up. The main use is that if you're hitting headshots and have a decent power bonus with additional, you will hit much harder than if you use True Damage, but only if you're stacking the armor pen really high, such as Ranger or Rogues. A content creator "Clowd" did a really good video on it a few months back.

I was rampaging with a slayer set with blueberry i had 16% armor pen and all true damage and rocked a flanged mace + short sword for 31% total, sprint and adrenaline. was super crazy 3 taping pdr people with 3 headshots

Before armor pen was nerfed to only roll on specific gear peices I used to get +Power +Power Bonus and +Armor Pen on every peice of gear. Highest I ever got was 40% Armor Pen and 40% Power, I was two tapping geared barbs as a halbred fighter.

Wouldn’t it be better to stack +1 physical dmg with armor penetration, except frost amulet? True dmg is good against heavy PDR but the armor penetration is essentially making them squishy. Just wondering what you think.

Try running a pdr/hp fighter mixed with will. You should be able to get 140+ hp, 17-20% buff and 45+% PDR with meh speed. Reading this I ran out the cost of a kit I've been wreaking havoc with (visored barbuta, dark cuirass, light gauntlets, heavy boots +rings/pendant and cape with a green falch and shield) and it was at 800~ gold, just keep in mind that may jump up or down probably plus or minus 100~ gold due to the markets. The price also isn't including a crossbow, as I usually just take the squire one until I find a better one as I don't use it for any serious fighting, I mainly use it to harass people and pressure people from pushing too aggressively so I can dictate the fight

All I cant say is when I stacked 20% Armor Pen on my Rogue(with APen skills and dual daggers). I was smacking the tankiest of fighters down in 1 burst.

Pen and PDR relation is 1 to 1, meaning if you have 20 pen you're gonna do remove 20 PDR from the target, essentially giving true dmg on power PDR builds

@@dinen2394I have a rogue specifically for gold grinding. I avoid fights, take the lock pick talent, and just farm up like 3-4 runs, then blow it all on my fighter and look for PvP. I like the long sword and still learning riposte spacing and timing so I tend to die a lot haha. I wish the gear cap was like 200 gs not 24 gs, so I could actually feel like I have a build in greens and not have to fight dudes decked in purple and blue fully optimized gear sets running through me.

They did not fix fighter. PDR may be fine, however Slayer fighter(which was my main) is no match in this meta of insane HP and ms. Maybe in Timmy lobbies it works well but not in the upper levels. Weapon damage and true nerfs were detrimental to the class. You can’t fight barbs, clerics, or pdr fighters without doing a ridiculous amount of kiting damage first. What’s the point? Might as well play ranger if all I’m doing is using range on fighter anyway xD wizards, warlocks, druids… can’t get close to them anyway. Gotta use a bow. Only class you can beat is a rogue as slayer. I will not play PDR. It’s so boring and slow! o7 brother
