Same obstacles are in the way of Jousting. If we have a tournament of 8-10 Knights, that would be considered a "big" tournament. Cost is one of the biggest hurdles; Horse & upkeep, truck, trailer, armor and on and on. It's an uphill climb for sure.

Thank you for bringing this up, jousting is a whole other monster of reenactment and combat ⚔️ I might have to cover that in a future video 🙏🏼

Sounds like being a knight for sport today requires approximately the same level of investment/income that being a knight for real in some of the centuries would require.

This one hots close brother. I have been in a battle for money per say lol. But the truth is our friends in arms are always willing to lend a hand, sometimes quite literally by the gauntlets 😆. But yeah. The majority of my kit is on loan from other fighters as I buy what I can afford.

Yeah, one of those Ukrainian armories that's stayed in business is Ancient Smithy. They make real, sharpened weapons so you wouldn't go to them for weapons to use in Buhurt/Armored Combat, but they make great stuff. I bought one of their axes as a gift for a friend and both the axe and the box it came in were absolutely beautiful (not to mention deadly). As for buying your armor "piece by piece," does that mean that combat leagues provide you with loaner sets until you have your own full suit?

Thanks for the comment and question! There’s no guarantee that the team will have a “loaner” kit to use. I got lucky and had one available to me. The Buhurt community is great and there is a big chance that someone would be willing to let you try theirs for a practice. Piece by piece I for example, bought my pauldrons, month later got gauntlets, month or 2 later got my brig. So on and so forth

@@mymedievalcorner115 I see. Thanks for explaining. I'm actually going to my first training session tomorrow (which from the description sounds like it'll be more of an orientation type thing) so I'll probably find out what's available in my area.

I really wish I could get into the sport. But yea… the price points of things is by far the biggest gatekeeper for me, I hope as the sport gains more popularity gear will become more accessible to people with less spending power. However the community is great, best one I’ve interacted with in any sport. Once I find a team I’m just hoping someone can lend me equipment until I finish building up my own kit.

Most tournaments are for prestige and glory, you can make money by being hired privately for demonstrations/ private parties or if the tournament specifically has prize money on the line.

@@mymedievalcorner115 most definitely, I was just wondering cause even though knights did it for prestige and glory but it was also a career for them.

I have a history degree and have always been interested into getting a knight armor set especially during the mid 14th century. I dont think I will ever get into Buhurt, but I wouldnt mind fighting with friends from time to time or joining a reenactment group. Do you think Armor that comes from "basic sellers" so not custom made by armour smiths is viable enough to be used for light combat or is it all a waste of money?
@mymedievalcorner115
@mymedievalcorner115 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment! Yes if you are just planning to have a fine suit to display, wear, and easy practice/play with your friends. Then I’d definitely get less costly armor. Just stay within the 16 gauge steel range
