No, AC 2 and AC 2:AA were the pinnacle. Granted 3 started the oribtal from the core, those were kind of hard and didn't produce fair combat characteristics like previous games did.

As of right now I have finished the first armored core and currently playing the expansions and i thought the controls in the first istallment were designed to be playable without the analog sticks cause back then; not all ps controllers had those. But after reading that they did something this asinine, i got speechles.

@@JexMugen Yes, it's true. I used to own AC 2 and 3 on the PS2 and they kept the clunky controls from the old school PSX days before the Dualshock was introduced. Never understood why they would do that, but From Soft just seems to love making masochistic games (Souls series) At least they finally fixed it with AC4 which played much better

I love this game, the mech vs mech combat was so intense when I was nine and It still is. I've never made it passed where it's a trap and this red mech confronts you outside this facility you clear. Kicks my ass every time and I don't have a ps1 memory card so I have to start all over each time. love it.

I was a big fan of Reverse Joints. Especially with Weapon Arms to save weight/energy Drain. The static jump gave you a lot of free altitude, so you didn't have to boost as much. Very efficient, and evasive, so you didn't take as much damage from the AIs. (We didn't have Arena yet.)

Especialy in the last double mission, where you had to fight Hustler 1 in all those towers? I had a Reverse Joint that could make those flights on 1 tank of Energy. With a little to spare for manuevering. Incidentally, my Raven Name was ΨBERZERK until Master of Arena, when we got 2 more letters. I've been using it as my name since the late 90s.

Probably the closest thing functionaly we get right now as Kampfer mobile suit. In my build i gave it high boost power, the heavy armor who resemble it, the scatter pistol and 2 grenade launcher in his back resembling the bazookas. Painted it in blue of course.

Yo, you handled it like a champ! Those moves looked so smooth. At first I thought you used some kind of hack to use both sticks of dualshock, but no, it's default layout! WTF? Meanwhile I'm trying to get used to control, classic, nexus-like with camera on symbol buttons, weapon/boost on L1L2/R1R2. Nothing works normally, gotta practice, it's like trying fighting game first time, but waaaaaaaaaaaay harder. :P

It is yes, I can recommend retroarch beetle psx hw for ac1. If you use the PAL version you can get higher framerates than the NTSC versions if you enable video override in the beetle options.

This video is rendered at 60fps, and I highly suspect there is frame blending afoot. Frame blending can work wonders on a lot of older media, but it also has some jitters every now and then. Since there is so much movement of the camera in this game, it would be harder to spot it, but you would notice it in a show or movie if the camera was stationary and a single object was moving.

Damn. How do you do the jump slash to kill in one shot.

It's all about positioning and timing, the easiest way is to hover at just below head height and then as you are slightly descending moving towards the enemy use your blade. Takes some practice but it's very satisfying when you master it. Another tip is if you miss the first slash you can use the blade again faster by holding left or right while attacking.

Interesting choice, starting out with only a blade. Why did you pick that instead of the WG-XP1000? Your AC repair bills would certainly be lower 😳 Also, what's your control scheme like? Did you change the controls to be more like a modern console game?

i remember playing these items intensely on psx days!! it's about value they have: the rocket launcher which have manual aiming, it has good balance of very high damage/ammo number/reload speed/ weight.. some rocket launchers are better but they would break the weight limit for mech to run on light legs.. also in AC1 you don't have a left side guns, thus carrying a back weapon is important. the same idea goes for the brown machine gun, alot of ammo with good damage for long missions... in some missions using karasawa is an overkill to small enemies also you will run out of ammo very fast! karasawa is more suited as weapon against small missions with enemy AC encounters.. also using sword whenever possible to reserve ammo.

This was windows 10 running PCSX-R PGXP emulator. I use retroarch beetle psx hw emulator now, playing the PAL version of armored core and video timing override option enabled in retroarch options.

Yes he damaged himself with grenades also the laser blade does 3-5x damage in the air.

i have a theory that the reason they chose the mecha genra for this game was because 3d human characters looked like shit back then and mecha was probably easier to model and more apealing at the time regardless of reason i love this series! wish thered be more in the AC franchise
