Armored Core Lore: Cabracan

The arms-fort over shadowed by the spirit of mother will and only known thanks to it able to fire out drones. This is a short report on algebras only arms-fort The Cabracan.

This, Spirit of Motherwill, and Answerer, were my favorite arms forts. Particularly fun missions.

Cabracan is fun buuuut I HAVE TO DISAGREE WITH MOTHERWILL. Especially with the sub-par performance on the PS3. Feels so satisfying to play it on RPCS3 and be greeted by 60fps!

Compared to the other Arms Forts of its time, I honestly think this is one of the most competently made arms forts unlike its contemporaries like Motherwill, Stigro, and the land crabs. Its lack of very exploitable weakpoints unless its seemingly ambushed make it very strong in my eyes. Its sad that it wasn't used more, imagine a next battle where they had a cabracan supporting them, I think it would have been cool.

Speaking of next battle, if i put my wish hat on. I think i would have like Hari to be here in hard mode with the cabracan like he was there on a orca misson or trying to prove he belonged in the ranks of orca and in the end strayed takes him and the arms-fort out leading to the orca radio chatting we see at the end.

@@armoredcorelore I would have absolutely liked that idea. I'm surprised so many in the league and orca's ranks never go fought by strayed unlike what happened in Armored Core 4 with its protagonist who pretty much fought everyone almost. And Hari is probably one of the absolute best options for the mission considering what I remembering reading about him. Next Armored Core game they need to really expand upon the next battles, they are some of the greatest missions of all time in every game they are a part of.

Super late, but I would argue that Motherwill was an excellently designed Arms Fort when one actually looks at the statistics of its service history. In the “A New Order for NEXTs” art book it describes that Motherwill is in fact ancient by military design standards, being originally produced shortly after the Lynx War and still being used a decade later during 4A. Despite its age, its design flaws were not discovered until relatively recently, when White Glint raided it. And furthermore the only way to actually exploit that weakness was by inventing a completely new piece of military hardware (the VOB) which is still experimental and prone to catastrophic failure as seen in “Destroy AF Giga Base Hard Mode”. So all-in-all Motherwill’s weaknesses were impossible to exploit until years after its creation, evidenced by the fact it survived that long, which is far and away better than more sophisticated designs like the Sol-Dios Orbital Land Crab, and AF Answerer.

Hey Brother, How's it going, I agree, but only one thing I would change about this is giving it a more centepede like aesthetic, even if it's just a minor cosmetic tweak, something bulbus on the front and something like pylons, nacelles or something resembling Anor Londo's roof structure but as legs instead.

I clearly remember being a dual laser blade expert and coming for the first time against this armsfort, penetrating his shields and destroying it in a single blow "well, that was quick" i thought, then i saw so many drones coming out and suddenly (as a blade-only pilot) it became a very long mission to complete hahaha.

When you lunge for the drone but you go "Out of bounds" because the stupid thing went too high 💀 I had GREAT AP too from not getting hit by missiles, I'm still so mad lol

This Arms Fort really presents itself as being purpose-built. Its design gives it two roles in battle - anti Next, and anti Arms Fort. This thing might have defeated 100% of first-time players by running them out of ammo. The chainsaws on the front mean that any Arms Fort that gets in its way will be shredded - think Land Crab, Great Wall, Giga Base, and Jet (the Orca one). Aerial AFs, like Answerer and Eclipse (flying fort from Defend the Really Tall Power Plant) can't be hit by the chainsaw, so they probably win. Compare this to Land Crab and Eclipse, which were supposed to be designed with Next combat in mind, but they fail miserably. So, the AF is not only a challenge for a player, but also demonstrates the in-world corporate mentality.

Fun fact! The Cabracan's drones were designed by Makoto Kobayashi, who designed the ZZ Gundam, Baund Doc and a few other gundam designs. He also did the Answerer in ACFA.

Honestly one if the harder AFs in the series by virtue of needing a fairly specific setup to beat it and needing some decent knowledge on the AF and how it works prior to fighting it. The main threat of this AF is running out of ammo.

I remember during my first fight with this running out of ammo, and having to resort to a laser blade that i had kept as a hanger weapon. Not exactly the most efficient tactic for an AC who could barely fly lol.

Cabracan is from meso-american myth. A very strong diety in control of earthquakes and mountains. Maybe the chainsaw head is meant to chew through a mountain? Maybe the enormous tracks cause an earthquake in it's path. Very interesting name indeed.

This was an interesting mission, I was genuinely gob smacked by the sheer number of drones that launched, that caught me off guard, yet I was disappointed in seeing how horrendously weak they were in both defense and attack damage, despite their sheer numbers, personally I feel the drones could of been slightly stronger to add more pressure but also given you an objective of stopping the fort before it breaks through a wall to a base/colony or something, considering this thing is basically a base buster. Also it was cool to see a GA arms fort shred this things entire back end, that was a cool demonstration of what arms fort power is

This AF always stood out to me. At first I thought it was a meh design, since it didn't look as imposing as the land crabs or the Spirit Motherwill. But then, after taking down one track, and stopping it, then watching it unfold and release drones, I realised this AF is by far the most practical and efficient AF probably ever made. Powerful? Probably not when compared to other AF, but it's design implies that rather than focusing on firepower output, it's more focused towards trojan horse tactics, whereby the defences are nearly impenetrable, save for anything that can destroy it's tracks. Combined with a volley of missile launchers that help in its defence. And rows of saws in its front to cut down buildings, obstructions, or maybe even other AF as it charges forward. But the main weapon, is the release of hundreds of independent drones that scatter the area and overwhelm an enemy force with large numbers and aerial assault. Even an inexperienced Lynx piloting a NEXT will have trouble, such was the case for many first time players who ran out of ammuniton. It has a unique design, and serves a niche role of performance.

Almost every fort seemed to focus on a few gimmicks designed to keep you from getting close Problem is they are WAAAAAAY oversized for the horrible amount of firepower ANY of them have, they are extremely impractical The only thing that comes close is the Spirit of motherwill honestly, the missiles make it a huge pain to take out, this arms fort's drones just kinda look at you and go "oh hey man..... Imma just stand here and go pew pew every now and then.... oh, Im supposed to be proactively attacking you? Oh..." Also why do they use a huge locking mechanism that drops off? Really pointless and a huge pain, nothing can pick that s*** up except a crane arms fort or something, a big waste of weight and metal is what it is lol

Also Real world recoiless rifles can use Canister ammo to become giant shotguns, so that's not a very far fetched thing at all especially for the AC4 universe.

Fun fact: You do not even need to damage the skirt at ALL I did not think I could damage them from the way they were talking about it's armor The mines were supposed to be a hint, they lift up the skirt just enough for you to go under, you can even notice the big explosions caused by this VERY intentional mechanic I hid inside of the skirt confused thinking I couldn't leave since I didn't think I could damage the skirt, I waited until the enemy did lol I'm surprised you didn't mention this method at all, seemed very obvious

It is very possible it could have been used for this, sadly we don't have a lot of information on the Arms-forts and what roles they played since most ending up simply patrolling around and never fought one another. That being said i would not want to be in a colony should this thing come rolling in.

I love it when you upload these while I'm actively playing the game. I just tested a design for the main villain of my story to pilot, I still desperately need an Elgato HD60 so I can record my PS3, but I'm working on the notes that I can in the meantime.
