The arms-fort deigned to take out nexts and other arms-forts, some would say it is the ultimate arms-forts however history would show it to be more like a flying paper weight compared to the next that would take it down.
This is the Answerer.

In truth the game really did this armsfort an injustice. The books do a much better job of painting this humming machine of death that kills everything in it path, it overwhelming fire power of kojima weapons and contamination would have been like staring death in the face for any foe.

Man, seeing the wings folded up is so cool, such a missed opportunity too. Imagine if Answerer was a reoccurring boss. You deal some damage to it, but then it folds up it’s wings and flies off. Later on you’re on a random mission, things are going well, but then you see Answerer approaching from a distance, only for it to unfold and wreak havoc over the map. You manage to get a few more hits in only for it to fly off once again. Only then some other NEXT pilots, probably ORCA, team up with you and finally gang up on it to take it down.

Reading the comments, it gives the impression nobody ever lost against this thing. I'm pretty sure I lost quite a few times before I learned what you could and couldn't attack. I also always used the default regulations. If I recall, reg 1.5 or 1.15 gave infinite energy, which is a definite advantage in this aerial fight. The thing is still so massive for a flying craft. Given its central structure is so pointed, it's difficult to imagine it in a landed position. It might have to have been built in a suspended position, held together with scaffolding and cables. I imagine a Discovery Channel documentary could have been made about its construction, with miles/kilometers of cable used to suspend the parts. Maintenance would also be a nightmare. You'd probably need specialized cranes or helicopters to lift replacement parts. Fort vs. Fort, I think this thing would have to avoid Stigro, because of its speed. I think it loses to Giga Bases and Motherwills because of their range. I think it beats Cabracan if it can somehow stop its treads. Great Wall is weird because of its plot armor invincibility; I don't think Great Wall can hurt Answerer enough to bring it down though. It obviously beats Orca's Jet forts, given it's shown beating them in a cutscene. It probably beats Land Crabs easily. Might lose to the Sol Dios Land Crab. It probably beats those other Omer flying AFs, unless they show up in large numbers and can take out its missile batteries. Using an assumed canon that Orca was controlled opposition, you were sent against the machine solo because you were supposed to lose. In the mission briefing (2:20:50 in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4XXgn6OfLRriNU) Thermidor says you're the only one who can pull it off. This means every other Orca member is doomed to die against the thing. Given that, your own odds of success are probably very poor. They don't even tell you why you need to take it out. "The battle will be hard, but if you are successful, we will move right into the final phase of the Closed Plan." It was moving to attack the Jet AFs of Orca. Were they strategically important enough to risk Orca's strongest Next? No. Even if Answerer needed to be destroyed, a more sensible approach would be to attack, leave when you're too damaged, repair, and try again. Hell, you could set up multiple Nexts and attack it daily as long as you had a spare craft. Answerer is probably near impossible to repair, so any damage should be permanent. Oh! But what happens at the same time that you're fighting Answerer? Malzel and Vaoh are losing at Big Box and Thermidor is .. shedding his persona and resuming being Otsdarva? So by fighting Answerer, you can't assist Malzel, and you can't warn Orca of Thermidor/Otsdarva's betrayal until all the other Orca members have been purged. Even if you beat the Orca path, you're all alone and presumably don't have the logistics to destroy the satellites yourself. Those are big lore points. Also, thinking about Thermidor some more and how he faked his death, there are some details that come to light. His craft sank in the ocean, but he was rescued. After White Glint is defeated, there aren't any more attacks on Line Ark or its assets (as far as I recall). Here's some extra plot I think happened. Otsdarva and White Glint agreed to both fake their own deaths, Otsdarva so he can found/return to Orca under Omer's orders, and White Glint took the deal in order to get the corporations to stop attacking Line Ark and its assets. The very first mission of the game shows White Glint that he can't protect Line Ark from attacks both distant and near at the same time, so he has no choice but to agree. The League had been trying to make Arms Forts that would replace Lynx, but that wasn't working. The Forts kept falling, and not many Lynx ended up dead in the process. That's the real reason Orca came to be. The Closed Plan was never intended to be carried out - it was a convenient story, with infrastructure to back up the claim; its real purpose was to lure pilots away from Collared to pit them against each other and finally thin out their ranks. Then, once Orca is crushed, Otsdarva returns to Collared. His faking his own death and subsequent betrayal are obvious - this sends a clear message to surviving Next pilots that one of their own is willing to betray them, minimizing the chance of any collaboration. This is aaaall because what they feared more than a rogue Next, was united Nexts. I think the only thing they couldn't have known is that a single pilot could be so far beyond the others they could win 3v1 (Orca hard mode) or 5v2 (Old King hard mode), and no Arms Fort could control them. If it wasn't for the player, I think their plan worked out as they expected. After the mission to defeat Answerer, I count a max of 15 (from an original 42) pilots still alive: Strayed Otsdarva Lilium Wolcott Wynne D Fanchon Roadie Roy Saaland Risaia (possibly KIA fighting Anti-Satellite Cannons) Jan May Greenfield (possibly KIA vs. Sol Dios Orbit AF) Ay-Pool (possibly KIA vs. Unknown Next + No Count) Kamisory Johnny Canis (possibly KIA during missions) Francois-Neris Dan Moro (possibly KIA vs. Uknown Next in Richland area) Mrs. Theresia I guess we can infer that in the Orca route, Old King is killed by Lilium Wolcott and Roadie, since Otsdarva and Wynne are busy fighting you at the same time. After Attack on Arteria Cranium, the max survivors goes down to 11. The minimum plausible number is 5, including the player, basically everyone in the list above, who's ranked below Roy Saaland, and doesn't have a 'possibly KIA' description. So, to summarize this rant, I think Omer's Orca plan worked pretty well, and the end story is the same as the original Armored Core "You're too strong so we must kill you."

“A NEXT’s worst nightmare” on paper sure, but I killed it without it ever hitting me from very long range using rockets. It is hella cool though, and did show that the companies didn’t care about the Earth anymore. Other missions where you had AP drain because of Kojima saturation were in vast underground bunkers designed to keep the particle in, but Answerer hovers above, ominously cooing, as it openly contaminates everything to a point where even a NEXT can’t remain.

Honestly as someone who played a pretty heavy design (and wasn't very good at design), trying to take out the answerer was a massive challenge. The constant fighting in the air, or having to sit on the wings and dodge missiles made it a huge challenge. Its times like this I wish Fromsoft had had more budget to work with, being able to have The Answerer fold up its wings between assault armour charges, or being able to float and move around the map, or even extra teammates to fight it, would have far increased the intensity of the battle imo. Unfortunately the most mobility we get out of arms forts is Spirit of Motherwill (not very fast) or Stigro (which is kinda clunky).

I do cover Arms Fort at some point on my Twitter, and they're supposed to be more scary than what you actually see in-game. Why? Simply because their actual size is at least 10x-30x larger, even something like Cradle is extremely massive. If this wasn't for the PS3 limitation, Arms Fort become an actual force to be reckoned with. You can see this clearly on Great Wall concept art.

It's sort of in my headcanon that the Answerer, was made for one thing and one thing exclusively. The extermination of the Lynx, not just ORCA Lynx, but rather League, Independent, Rogue, whatever Lynx there were because of how much the League were well aware on how powerful a single NEXT was and the havoc they could wreck if they went suddenly rogue. All the other arms-forts before the Answerer were nothing more than paper-tigers to keep the Lynx hopefully in line while buying them time to develop the Answerer. Of course then, comes along Strayed and he destroys the Answerer.

This Arms Fort most certainly provided a unique challenge for many pilots before word spread of the Achilles heel in this colossal machine. From my experience the Answerer stood out among its colossal kin moreover than Motherwill and Great Wall as the Assault Armor and natural degradation of PA did exactly what you've stated in the video. Learning how to maneuver around this craft too proved quite a learning curve. Light Armor and fragile PA meant you went for broke or broke in the attempt. I thoroughly enjoyed the forced Primal Armor and Armor Point drain during the mission, but that boils down to the pilot themselves and their NEXT.

Looking at the companies that created the Answerer, it makes me wonder if it was another A.I. controlled Arms Fort like Stigro or possibly Cabracan since Omer was neck deep in AI research via Aspina and the former Rayleonard staff while Interior built Stigro. If it is than the Answerer at least on paper would be the perfect culmination of the corporations efforts to do away with the LYNX while also removing another potential avenue for rebellion or internal strife by having an effective AF that doesn't require the population of a small city to properly control. (Which in turn means no possibility of a mutiny or rebel group hijacking it). The Answerer pun very much intended, is "the answer" to the corporations dilemma. An unmanned Arms Fort armed to the teeth, equipped with weapons capable of piercing through both solid shell and energy defenses like a hot knife through butter, and is further complemented by primal armor that not only renders it virtually impervious to ranged munitions, but actively drains PA all the while emitting an ungodly amount of Kojima particles that poisons the area surrounding it which in turn makes it impossible for conventional armies to get anywhere near it (and also nullifies the potential threat from other Arms Forts, since the Jet is the only model that might have Kojima shielding). Even if something does get close it will immediately be vaporized by a hailstorm of missiles and laser fire. All of this combined with the psychological warfare aspect of the Answerer itself on top of that. With the creepy eldritch abomination and angelic design, the strange spikes that potrude from the center, the constant unnerving humming/droning noise that sounds like a distorted whale call, and the fact that it passively destroys everything around it with just Kojima particles alone. TBH I kind of wished that AC:FA took more pages from Last Raven's book and had the Answerer as the true final boss. For the League Run it would be Omer attempting to bury any evidence of their involvement with ORCA, sidelining Interior, and attempting to purge Line Ark, GA, and BFF. For ORCA it could possibly be bought in as a last ditch effort to prevent them from becomming a very real threat with Strayed now at the helm after taking out Odstarva. Meanwhile I can see the Answerer being sent in for Old King's path either as an immediate reaction to punish and kill Strayed following Destroy Cradle 03 or as a last ditch effort to protect themselves after Strayed kills the hit squad that was sent to Carpals. For the latter maybe have something akin to the dialogue from the Motherwill mission with the mission givers for each corporation (assuming the mission givers and CEOs are one and the same) talking to Strayed either chewing him out, boasting about the Answerer's power, or simply trying to talk him down. Cue the Answerer's destruction with the narrator monologue that normally plays at the end of Occupation of Carpals playing as Strated OBs away from the machine crashing back down to earth. Instead of an immediate cut to credits there is a special "chat room" cutscene where the corporate leaders are all panicking as Strayed can be heard tearing through their troops and going after the Cradles. The call becomes increasingly distorted with static, a loud explosion or rumbling occurs, the call cuts off, and for a few seconds the only thing that can be heard is the roaring wind from outside the Cradle as the scene fades to white.

If it was only made to be a combat war-machine then I would not understand that concept alone because the Answerer isn't a mobile Arms Fort, if they were going to use it to attack ORCA then what good would it do if it was standing still? I thought it was some kind of super radar that sends signals to something because of how it's called an "Answerer" unless if the "Answers" it gives is destruction to its war opponents. Especially since it has an area-of-effect that is extremely deadly. It also is the scariest Arms Fort, not because of its design but because of its 'Heartbeat' sound.

Its a fair point and well i think the answerer really was just a project to show off what the league could do, what power it had. It may have never been intended to even used in battle however when strayed turned out to be an orca member who would not die when the other members simply where puppets of omer you can see why this floating machine of war with more weapons on it then most countries have and its kojima area of effect that rips away primal armour and armor points of next was seen as the thing that would put a single next into the dirt. And as for the league ending since all nexts basically kept out of the fighting (With strayed and Wynne mostly likely either fleeing for thier lives or killed) and orca forces where simple mts and ground forces its fair to say the league saw no real threat to the answerer and simple let it kill of the remains of this group as again a show of power. Would it stand up to a team of nexts? Probably not, but would it be hell of a fight.

I have a Theory RE: it's name. The Central "Question" or point of conflict of the ACFA Story is the question of whether humanity should be allowed to live largely in the cradles, supported by the unfortunates relegated to the surface, or if all of humanity should focus their effort into leaving behind earth, even through mass death. That's the Central Conflict between the League and ORCA, which the player is supposed to "Answer". Now, it's very likely that the League is aware of the Problem of Kojima Pollution along with the Assault Cells. The sentiment that Humanity would be better off united on the surface cannot be unique, as Line Arc was formed partially from Rebels and Political Groups which seem to Target the Cradles. So, how do you deal with such dissidents if you are a League-Adjacent Executive? Why, simply poison the surface, of course! The Answerer uses a RIDICULOUS amount of Kojima Energy. It's powering a fleet's worth of laser cannons, Kojima projectors, Primal Armor, Assault Armor, along with keeping aloft roughly half the Mass of a Motherwill-Class Arms Fort. And to Top it all off, we can see it's reactor is damn near exposed, being located in the Central Sphere just below the "Spikes" (which i assume are Propulsion Systems). It's Kojima field is so damn powerful that it corrodes Metal and DESTROYS weaker Kojima Fields. So, the Answerer has it's name because it is the Leagues' "Answer" made manifest. It's a nigh-indestructible mobile disaster. It's not a weapon, it is Calamity and Pollution and Radioactive, Kojima-Scorched Death. Even simply keeping it operational is bound to sooner or later pollute the Earth to a degree where living on the Cradles will be the only option left to Mankind, eliminating the problem of dissidents like ORCA and making humanity entirely dependent on the Corporations. A final and definitive "Answer" to the "ORCA Problem".
@armoredcorelore
@armoredcorelore Жыл бұрын
Like it and well i can agree the short sighted of a corporation is most likely how they came to this answer. After all its clear one day that the pollution will reach the cradles so the corporations either think this problem is too far ahead in the future to worry about or it is all part of the closed plan where all the elements of Orca, the answer and finally the downing of thier own cradles would lead them to a new world where they could leave thier mistakes behind. Either way i enjoyed this, so thank you.

@@armoredcorelore Wasn't the closed plan a plot by Rayleonard which got them thrown out of the League in AC4? I don't think the Answerer is pro-plan, it's explicitly anti-plan.
@armoredcorelore
@armoredcorelore Жыл бұрын
@@acceptablecasualty5319 Sadly rayleonard was not around by the time of the league as anatolia's mercenary and GA put the corporation down in AC4 thanks to Akavit supporting the break away of GA European which in turn pulled Rayleonard in being as the pair where working together. The closed plan was a secret within the ranks of Rayleonard to destroy the assault cells, taken down all other corporations and head to space. This is speculated to suggest then that Rayleonard knew what Kojima particles could do both good and bad and the need to get away from it. Did they want to kill earth off as they did this? Maybe not, but the situation changes in ACFA. As Omer is the one to find the closed plan thanks to them obtaining rayleonard assets, they create a political power in the league before then creating Orca with Malzel and Ostardava as puppet leaders. In truth the plan is very much an anti earth idea as back in ac4 raylonard could have executed this plan perhaps without the deaths of millions of people. That said by ACFA as you said the world is dying and the league can see this, so the plan went from be the only one and flee to escape the poisoned earth with time to spare too. The planet is beyond repair, we've held on as long as we can but we need to leave without looking like we only care for our own self preservation to keep the peoples support we take with us. Quick Form a terrorist group, make them look like the bad guys. Save only who is really needed and then head to space to save our own bacon. So yeah the answerer really could be part of this closed plan as you say the answer to anyone who tried to stop them lynx's, line ark forces other corporations. Or act as a final clean up operation. But as i say while i say this on the matter, I'm not here to put others theories down.

@@armoredcorelore Ah, i didn't know ORCA was a creation of Omer! I always thought it was the other way around, that it formed within Omer in protest. Also very likely Akvavit was involved in the Construction and Development of the Answerer as an aside.

@@acceptablecasualty5319 Its kind of weird right, you think the amount of anti corporation speeches they have, that they would come out of the league as this group of Lynxs who hated the league. However not the case and it is very possible former Akvavit engineers and designers work on the answerer as its noted a lot of them went to torus which only came to be thanks to the interior unions aid so nothing to say torus did not do some background work for Interior just never put thier name to it.

This thing would be more a logistical nightmare than it would be a NEXT's nightmare. Like, how do you even crew that thing? It passively harms everything near it indiscriminately! To replenish any missiles, or other consumable ordinance, it uses you'd need to fly them up to it from a base a safe distance away. How would you build this thing? From the looks it'd need to be assembled in space and made to slowly decend down, except the airspace right above the cradles is where the space defences target things. Sure, it's a nightmare fir a NEXT to fight(unless you're a Lynx who's seen it before), but in an arms fort v arms fort fight this thing is a sitting duck. Its only potent weapons all need direct line-of-sight to engage, whereas we see other arms forts(like Giga Base or Spirit of Motherwill) are able to have devastating armament be used outside direct line-of-sight. If modern day aircraft carriers with half the target profile worry about long ranged attacks; then this thing should worry way more.

I think you're right on the money as far as the mental effect this thing would have in battle! Without knowing the very specific weakness and having a very specific craft to take advantage of it, there's simply too many chances to make a single fatal mistake fighting this thing. Also you could probably say something about how part of the plan to abandon earth involved such an angelic looking machine.

I called it The Destroyer because it had the GA gatling Cannon back mount, the quadruple chain gun, and carried an Equbal Assault rifle and the 2nd GA gatling opposite to the back gatling. The thing put out so much Fire at once it literally melted everything lol. I also had the shoulder scatter flares

OOO ROADIES IS NEXT. Can't wait for the red old bastard video. Also will you do more on the Orca members ?? Theres lot you haven't covered there, League prob just got a few top members left prob Arisawa, Lillium and Wong lore along with few support Nexts (Especially the Green waifu one). Orca haven't got much attention imo along with few AC4 Originals but since theres fewer parts anyway back then you can argue its less intersting as most of it just upgraded base model.

Oh no I'm with you on that. The cost of one of these armsforts must easily equal to a few nexts. But that is what arm-forts where all about in the end. The league wanted controllable might so that one day they could leave nexts and lynxs behind as some have proven to be quite the trouble makers. But let's be honest as long as Lynxs like strayed are about the league might as well keep thier nexts.

Sadly this Massive State of the art war machine wasnt given the difficulty it deserved in game But Think of it like this Its a game You can die,learn with the deaths and mistakes youve made, come back fix what you missed And defeat the Answerer but if you look at it inside the acfa universe you only live Once the Lynx wouldnt have any clue as to how to defeat that colossal thing, no clue where to initially hit,what weapons to use(think if u didnt know the weakpoints of it why would you bring a blade?or any melee at all against that thing) thermidor even states that we Strayed are the only ppl who can defeat it, no wonder! We can improve each time we die. We aways end up victorious in the end So i dont think it is any exaggeration to state that Answerer really is a Lynx killing machine, sure it is easy to defeat, but thats after knowing how to do so Cant do that when you only live once

I used the White Glint Frame to make a stupidly fast core with nearly unlimited flight and a near minite long overboost.. I would use the overbooster.. overboost my own machine, then go to its stem and double punch it with the pile bunkers.. Fight over.. These Machines really need to be changed so you have to destroy multiple parts to kill them. Otherwise they are too easy. Love the answerer but the game machanics do weaken it abit if you know where to melee

Me and you both, having looked into these arms-fort it really should have been a terrifying experience for a lynx with missiles, mts, lasers and cannons all being thrown at the next to stop it. Hands down the easiest mission in the game, lasting even less than the first mission. Still the design of the arms fort and its deadly aura of mass destruction weapon was so fascinating. Too bad that you can just oneshot the answerer with a single blow of laser blade hitting the generator Edit: it's the same spot that we see in the footage when the Next hits the answerer with Kiku, actually you cando it with laser blades if you feel like it.
