Edit: So! The newest version of PCSX2, paired with in-game patches that it includes, fixes nearly all of the issues I had with the emulator! Play those instead if you can, I was using an outdated version of PCSX2 from last October (Ver. 1.7.3479 for those curious), so that's why it had those issues. On me for not getting the newest version, it's progressed a ton since I last messed with it! Huge thanks to Val for informing me about this. This video and it's length got really out of hand, hopefully videos of this length doesn't become the norm! I now understand why some KZbinrs take like 6 months of work to put out huge videos lmao

I imagine if I practiced it a lot I could get ok at the fight, but it’s exhausting! The main reason why I said it’s the toughest thing in AC is because there isn’t a way to cheese it (from what I found), you just gotta win. I gotta imagine that Last Raven speed runners are just insanely good lol

lmao I wanted to get footage for Otogi to show it off in the video, and I played it way longer than I planned! That game rules, I should finish it. Metal Wolf Chaos is also pretty impressive, it has so much charm

One of the worst things of LR is that you can't replay the previous entries the same way before. The combat pace is not fast enough, the danger is not there, overall it feels safer compared to LR.

While I do agree that the speed and difficulty of Last Raven is on another level and it almost trivializes the earlier entries, the earlier games have better build variety so that does help a lot in going back I find. Stuff like the Nine-Ball Seraph in Another Age does help with finding challenge in earlier games as well, but it does take the edge off of most of those stories knowing how insane it gets

I'll probably make a big long post in response to this video (It's really good so far!) but I just heard you bring up the blur filter and I wanted to mention: In PCSX2 1.7, there are pre-included patches in the per-game settings menu to remove the blur filter in every single NX-era AC game for both JP and US regions. I helped test it, it's a godsend.

I played through Nexus last March on PCSX2 and I never tested out or looked at the patches! That’s really good to know, I think I played it in 1.6? If it fixes the other graphic issues in Last Raven then it would easily be the definitive way to play those games

@@CinnamonLyn 1.6 is.... pretty horrible IMO. It's going on five years out of date by now, every single issue you mentioned in 1:43:00 has been fixed by now and then some. Definitely grab the Nightly version off the PCSX2 site sometime, it's a world of difference. The PS2 games are essentially perfect now, minus a few areas in Nine Breaker. (Please don't nuke my reply again, darn algorithm. I initially had a video link here.)

The footage I did record was from the nightly version, I was mistaken on the version number, my apologies. I should have done more research on the emulation end of things, that's on me. I'll have to check out those patches when I get off work, I appreciate the reply

Fantastic video. Last Raven is a game I resonated with more than any entry before or after. Its comments on armored core's narrative structure, individuality and power work so well and I've seen very few people delve into it as sincerely and in depth as you. Your interpretations on certain characters like evangel's was also very different from mine but I found it to be pretty compelling. Not to mention delving into Jack-o/evangel's route first had me realize things about pulverizer I didn't appreciate since I played the latter first. Like yeah just great stuff all around, super excited for what you have in store next!

Thanks so much! My second playthough gave me a much greater appreciation for the game, and really grew to love it. There is a lot of depth to its narrative and story that often gets overlooked because of the games challenge, and I wanted to bring that to light. I would be interested in hearing your interpretation of Evangel! I feel Last Raven making its characters motivations/reasons either a mystery or up to interpretation makes for great discovery, what an underrated game

​@@CinnamonLynThis is a bit late but I thought of evengel as less of someone ravaged by the loss of a true rival (but again really cool interpretation) but as a cut throat raven desperate for power no matter the means. Secret dealings with Crest, the bad nexus ending where he shown leading the Mirage squadron, even joining Allliance initially over Vertex. It all hints that willingness to subvert work ethics and morals to whichever faction grants him the most authority and power. Maybe even stemming from Evangel rivarly with the player character to the point where he crosses a line and can't really go back? However in Last Raven he's forced to go undercover by Alliance (indicated by the jack-o ending) being ruthlessly targeted by Alliance despite HQs frustration over this. Being reduced from commander to a mere tool likely affected him in some way. So once Jack-O introduced the internecine I think it causes him to make a choice to potentially combine with pulverizer or defeat it personally because to him its the only way to assert himself in a world that has constantly denied his pursuit of power.

I really like your interpretation, it makes a lot of his character make sense, him aligning with whatever can conflate his ego and lust for power, regardless of the cost. Hello, I am a 3rd gen Raven who started from AC3, cleared Silent Line and got in Last Raven a month ago (still play it, at 87% completion) Just wanted to point out a small thing at 37:22 that you can use save files from AC3 and/or AC:SL too, not just Nexus and/or Nine-Breaker. Atleast, thats what I did on my emulator. Other than that, good work on this vid.

Cause yeah you can take that from AC 2 all the way to Last Raven, I took a premade Karasawa emblem that I changed the colors of from 2AA to Last Raven, that was pretty cool. For like game progress saves, it didn’t work for me, but I might look it up and check that out. Thanks for the heads up! ^_^

Just wrapped this up and it's the final one I've watched that you've posted. Really really enjoyed these. I got recommended the Gen 4 games one and I finally got around to watching it last night and watched all these today. Really loved these, can't wait for the Gen 5 games. I really love the music in the Gen 5 games so I look forward to what tracks you choose to highlight there.

Last Raven was my first AC game, since ir was the only one I could find for cheap and it definitely kicked my ass, but after a while I became a little bit more capable.
