Freedom Wars Remaster: my thoughts

Man, I remember playing and beating this game on the Vita! I'm super surprised that it got a remaster, but damn glad I can play with more people!

Ahh, I'm so happy for you and all the fans! You got me all teary, too 🥲 I found my old VODs from 2014, enjoying this game with you and other friends. Thank you so much for all the info in the video! I had just resigned to the idea that our Vita games would just live forever on the Vita, so I'm so glad to hear the news and impressions that have been coming out up to this announcement. Can't wait to enjoy this again and share it with more friends! We gotta get that sequel!

You are welcome! I wanted to be as resourceful as possible :) We all felt that way, especially with Sony's narrow minded way of thinking as of late. Sony: we dont have a lot of good IPs right now... And yet the fans can list a lot of them, lol. I am really glad bamco decided to give this game one more chance and allow FW to come back to us. I can not wait to play with everyone again!!

at this point that project shaz dimps is working from 2022 probably is the sequel of freedom wars 2.. i not think namco bandai buy the ip again just for the rematered...In fact, this year that they return to work on Sword Art Online I wondered why they weren't doing Fatal Bullet. which is the + selling game of the series (as well as considered a spiritual successor to Freedom even if it is a looter shooter with strong RPG elements) this explains why they made SAO Fractured Day Break this year and not Fatal Bullet 2.. The next persistent online game they will play will be Freedom Wars 2

I have not played FB, my friends did play it and they said it was decent but not the same with FW. I think it got mixed reviews overall. I do not play SAO games, and I am not the target audience. I do not know what will happen to project Shaz. It is meant to be a spiritual successor to FW, but now..? I do not know because they already have an idea of how the sequel will be made. Project Shaz feels like it will be something else entirely. Maybe.

I want to hear what the developers say because it is just speculations right now. Sony still owns the IP for Freedom Wars, and that's where it can be unknown of where they go with the sequel.

@@sinfurihaart of course of course clear unfortunately it is not official but now there are really 3 coincidences ... (you know that saying that up to two are coincidences and from 3 they become a proof? xD) Of course it's not official but I think we can be sure it will come and I'll tell you what they are first in 2022 they talk about project shaz.... They return to SAO after 6 years and do not make fatal bullet that the game + sold of the series (until today there was really no logical reason to make another game of SAO and not the chapter + sold of the series) and today we find out that they have taken back the IP from Sony and the remastered... I think we will definitely see a new chapter I think now our question has to be. Not if it will happen but when? XD

for Fatal Bullet they had much less funding than Freedom Wars but they made a great title (don't expect anything in terms of story) but it really exceeds in the looter shooter and online part .. If maybe you find it on Steam with all the DLCs discounted, surely you can get it if you want an online game of the Dimps (the story + what else is fan service, for MMO fans there is something nice but really where does it shine: Fatal Bullet and everything in the endgame, make builds, choose skills, gear do roles with the Trinity Tank, DPS Healer, etc.) The incredible thing that they have managed with two coins where gigantic software house have failed where they have spent probably all the money used for Fatal Bullet + all the DLCs and free updates in a single area ( on the sites you will not find fantastic reviews because obviously the journalists have played the story and then moved on to the next game to review without having time to see the real qualities of the game but if you go on steam review of players are really positive)

@@monikaguerra Yeah, that is fair. I usually trust steam reviews the most. The experience can range from playing up to 10 hours, to 40 hours or post game content and beyond. Those are the people to listen to because they are sharing their full experience as much as possible.

oh the nostalgia is coming to me. i know its a pipe dream but i wish for other ps vita gems released like SSD, gravity rush, any vanillaware games etc. i need to save money for this.

I always wanted to play freedom wars, but it was trapped on Vita. I've played God eater 1, 2, 3, Toukiden 2, and just about all the monster hunter games from Freedom unite to Rise. It's funny that God eater was know as the anime action fast paced monster hunter, but now Rise/Sunbreak is that as well. I miss making Busted OP bullets for my God arc. Could also hear your joy and shaky voice of a thought to be long dead series returning. Now if only Soul Sacfrifice could return too, but Soyny killed Japan studios.

Glad to meet another person who is familiar with the God Eater games! And you are right about the MH series, I have noticed they have changed a little bit over time. Yeah, lol. It is hard to believe that it's coming back, especially when FW IP is still being owned by Sony. It was a sad shame to see Japan Studio killed off like that. But I feel that SS might have a chance, they just need to work on the rights and who is going to publish it. Everything else is uncertain.

@@sinfurihaart Team Asobi (The guys behind Astrobot) Are the remnants of Japan studios. I'd imagine sony still owns the IP, but I don't have high hopes for a remake. There are rumors that Bloodborne and all the other Japan studio games' source codes were lost hen they trashed the studio. That's why we keep getting the last of us an horizon remakes for the 20th time in less than 10 years instead of older games.

@@neurosis51 Damn, that is always painful to hear. I think the devs mentioned they had a difficult time bringing back FW's data as well. I am going by the JP interview in this video, so I dont know the full details but it does make sense why Sony is like this with releasing games repeatedly.

I think you are right to assume that, especially when the recent State of Play just announced remastered games like the Lunar series and Legacy of Kain series. I know that LoK will be on multiple platforms, but still. It is possible they might bring in more older games if enough people are buying them. But yeah, I can see a sequel happening on a PS5 or a PS6.

You can see that they put money behinds games that sell well an high praised. Like nintendo zelda, mario an pokemon continue production because of the money an praise an they capitalize on it.

No problem! I'm glad my video was helpful to you. FW is a unique game that I love to this day and no other action hunting game has come close to it. Not even with the recent MH games. They stick to their own thing, and that's totally fine. I highly recommend giving this game a try.

I do have an old beginner's guide on my YT channel. It should still be useful in the remaster, but myself and friends are going to do some testing to see if any major changes were done. So far in the IGN article, it seems like not much has really drastically changed when it comes to the gameplay and controls.

I really don't mind English VAs added in this new version. I am a fan of both English VAs and Japanese VAs. The original VAs were amazing. Will the English VAs be just as good? It's hard to say. If they are going by how Code Vein and God Eater games did English VAs, it's a hit or miss to be honest.

​@@sinfurihaart I'd rather the Americans not touch this if they're not gonna translate it 1:1. My experience of Valkyria Chronicles 4 was ruined by translators mistranslating the language on purpose. I would also like it if the EN VAs don't go the "Kobayashi Dragon Maid" route. EN VAs are garbage to me right now and I don't see them redeeming themselves anytime soon.

@@KV_GunEnjoyer Yeahh, I know what you mean and your hatred towards half-ass/twisted localization is valid. I only mention CV and GE games because the English voice lines have been pretty decent over time. We will have to see if they keep it true to the original.
