OK PHILY DUDE! I MUST TELL YOU THIS! That Abrams from the old Army recruitment commercial, y'know the one that jumped and fired mid-air? You never see that tank land though. Because when it did, it blew out it's suspension, tracks, road wheels, da workz man. Abrams is a 72 ton beast. Driving that thing around at Fort Erwin for NTC and listening to ACDC over the intercom was probably one of the most awesome moments in my whole time in the Army - well till I got to shoot gunnery xD. The T-90 weighs vastly less, and it's got a stronger suspension system do to that thanks to it being so light. It's based off the T-72 so it's a pretty small tank compared to the Abrams, but I love this thing. It's 125mm HEAT rounds are what I dub Satan's Donkey Puncher.

+TocTeplv You don't know what you don't know. That capabilities of modern tanks are well known, and it's very unlikely that secret super weapons are built into them invalidate open source data. What lies hidden are exact parameters of certain electronics and exact structure of certain types of armors. Open source data on optics, LRIF, FLIR is good enough, and the specific data on active protection systems is less available because limited instances of this technology being used in combat. The effectiveness of Israel's active counter measures was not known with a high degree of confidence until wide spread use and extensive video footage in recent conflicts. Penetration of common rounds vs common armor types is known, while there is some specific data missing regarding modern rounds vs more exotic armors or standard armors vs more exotic rounds where those technologies haven't been publicly observed in combat. But for the most part we are talking about small differences. How is open source data so accurate? Because there is no global conflict causing advanced technologies to not be exported and signifigant resources being devoted to an information fog of war. Cyber warfare is increasing making it difficult for governments to keep their secrets. Additionally, in the free world, industry experts and ex-soldiers participate in the defense analysis industry as well as civilian publications that bring experts together to look at these technologies to the extent that they are not violating NDAs. Additionally components of these technologies originate all over the world (Russian tank electronics originating in france) including whole systems being exported because of the global economy making it harder to limit information available on them. Proliferation of social media and cheap HD video cameras has made modern urban conflicts a great source of widely available footage of technology A vs technology B and the very real results of those two meeting to the death, regardless of whether we know the the exact range of penetration of the latest Russian anti-tank round vs a particular angle and thickness of Chobham armor on the M1A2 SEP. In example, we can take what the better known round that that round was based on, and infer based on available data, to high a degree of accuracy of what that new round will do, and the margin of error isn't going to make an idiot or break a video game. The greatest fog of war exists within countries like China that are not "Free" and are capable of controlling and securing information with tools that the West chooses not to. However, Chinese defense technologies are not entirely hidden to us because of a high degree of reliance on Russian system which are not as opaque to analysis, and because the development of their industries are occuring in phases that very closely resemble what the west has done. We can look at pictures of what they, and what they claim those things can do, and at the precursor technology and what its better known capabilities are and come to a not so unrealistic picture of what the system is probably capable of. There is alot of innacuracy between real life and this game, which is implented for balance (since you can't really account for the Abrams costing 2.5x as much as the T-90 into a game where you don't have to procure the vehicles for an army, you have to balance the vehicle capabilities instead) and this could have been your argument, but since you don't know what you are talking about, you couldn't have chosen to do so. In effect, what I am talking about is Intel Analysis and Industry Analysis, and with some exceptions, the difference between open source and TSC-CI data is not so significant as to make open analysis and discussion simply mental masterbation, but more or less reliable for most intents and purposes. The best example I can come up with of a game breaking technology that open source are at a loss to account for is US DoD off the record statements to law makers and MoD officials in several countries that are to buy the F-35 where they promise the F-35 has for all intents and purposes a "cyber super weapon" capable of disabling enemy aircraft without firing missiles. Open sources and analysis can't see inside the F-35, nor is there an interrim technology known to us to make inferences based on. It is possible the F-35 has something like this, it is within reasonable bounds that this could exist, and it not be disproved. However we can more subjective analysis of a wider range of contexts to say that this is unlikely, and probably a marketing stunt to the largest modern defense project in world history from failing. Main battle tanks on the other hand cost much less per unit, hold a piece of most of their high tech systems on the exterior of the vehicle (LRIF, optics, active protection, armor, ERA, RPG racks) subjecting them to intense photographic scrutiny, and fight on the ground where observers are more readily available than 30,000 feet. They also use power trains that aren't especially classified, have fairly well known weights (what aircraft can carry them ^.^ ) and are crewed often by men with only high school education who don't sign NDAs or have top secret clearances so the information is not particularly well guarded.

Yeah... the weasel is a good example of why the aiming circle is a horribad way to handle aiming, unless there is a wall behind him, you were actually physically incapable of hitting him, the amount you have to lead means you autorange on the mountain behind and ahead of him, so you just literally cant shoot him at speed at anything over a fairly short distance.

Well, autocannon can penetrate your mbt sidearmor from 15 degree angle like no problem. It's not like the side is composite, has ERA and the thickness of several hundred millimetres

Why are the T-90 and M1A1 the same tier? The equivalent of the T-90 would be the M1A2, the M1A1 is around 6 years old compared to the original model T-90

If it was the case, then they should have accurately described the correct model in the name. Otherwise, just from a rough glance at what you could see in the video of it, it seemed like a bog standard M1A1. Which would get mulched by the original model T-90, let alone the T-90AM you see shown in game.

Fun fact, the Abrams is faster than the T-90. And is the only tank(Im aware of) that uses a Jet Turbine engine, which is controversial because of how hungry that engine is. But its performance is unmatched.

So does an abrams. Those filters burn really brightly too. If one got damaged we'd just take it out, toss it off to the side and crush it with the track. and The abrams does get hot at the rear but its a life saver when its cold.
