I wasted 20 years working on what I THOUGHT was the RIGHT way to swing the club, and that involved shallowing the club. I hit the ball great before I started that, and I have hit it great again since I started listening to Mike. From Scratch to 8-10 back to Scratch. You’re the only guy on KZbin that has it right…I don’t care what the haters say. Keep spreading the good word, brother!

Mike , much like your journey in golf with a baseball background , I have probably had more swing changes and thoughts about the swing than almost anyone ! I’m 76 and a retired PGA Instructor and very much enjoy watching your videos and employ many of your instructions regarding the grip, posture , setup alignment and swing . I have left ulna impaction syndrome and have a tough time hitting irons so I mostly only hit the driver when practicing into my backyard net . I find that if I think about the swing as a circle and do the same thing when swinging with the driver chest high when tilted over and the club on the ground , I get the sensation of the flattening path in transition , it’s a real game changer for me ! Thank you very much for your generous efforts to help golfers of all ages , Mike ! John

John Because of the condition of your hands. Allow the club to move a bit in your fingers. If you watch an old video of Bobby Jones he let go of the club with the last three fingers of his left hand at the top. He then as the club came down regained control. Then again let it come off some in the follow-through. And to your observation all the swing is, Is multiple circles. They sync out and the swing gets easier and easier to duplicate. No matter what the age. What we can do. We may not be able to swing as fast or hit it as fast as we did when we were 25. But we can for sure get better than we were yesterday. Thanks, Mike Malaska

I follow you Mike because you keep it simple. What others forget is that whatever techniques you advocate they all have to be incorporated in a flowing athletic swing. I don't know about anyone else, but if you gave me more than a couple of things to think about then that athletic swing goes the more complexity you add. This video technique coupled with right forearm facing away from you (I'm a righty) at grip address helps me preserve the space Mike refers to & is set before the back-swing, so it has effect before I swing if you get me.

I cant believe how polite Malaska is. The reality is that way too many golf instructors suck. I spent almost 1k in golf instruction over the years and other than one instructor who unfortunately moved out of state, i learned more on my own than with their help. No wonder why American courses are mostly crowded with hackers.

What goes up(arms) must come down. The only reason the hand path will go out slightly is because the body will begin to rotate. Not everybody, but most students I work with would benefit from lowering the arms and slowing the rotation of the downswing. Great video Mike!!

I know exactly who THEY are that you’re talking about, and I’m completely in your camp on this one. What THEY are saying makes no sense certainly regarding efficiency. Your teaching makes the most sense of anything I’ve seen, and I’ve been at this game for nearly 50 years; and have studied 100s of professional swings through the decades. As always, great work Mike. I AM a fan!

I agree .. I trying to learn basics of golf watching Mike’s method of teaching. - The swing from start to finish is a second or less. It is complex and intimidating. - Mike breaks down the fundamentals. Science! Others: - It is not possible to remember, maneuver and repeat what most coaches are teaching. These are “techniques” not swing. - A swing is from start to finish is one smooth movement that produces the intended results. - Success = straight and required distance (and great joy where you almost want to tip your hat to your imaginary audience. :) ) - The swing must be simplified to give you repeatable and consistent results (straight, distance). - what most coaches are teaching is a marketing gimmick called differentiation. - It is how they stand out from others and why you should buy from them. - $120 to $300 per hour better get you repeatable results. - How these coaches swing is unique to them. It is easy for them. One or two students that can do what they teach is what they talk about on their channels. Most cannot incorporate their methods for consistent results. Stay with the fundamentals, practice and make your body move. Mike M is a great coach.

@rogermiller4929 Жыл бұрын
@@rodrich1644 Yes. There are a few videos and one of them is Mikes. The first video is important because it helps you move your hands/wrists properly and stops flipping. Mike endorses this move. The second video is mike explaining how you must not come over the top. Right elbow leading right hand helped big time. To get used to the hand movement, do half swings and imagine you are playing with an ice hockey stick. This will help you not to flip! kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqS5lJqcYs6mbs0feature=shared kzbin.info/www/bejne/hH7CnGB8rZeHpdEfeature=shared I could talk for hours about this. When I started to change my hand movement I realised I needed to change my swing to more of a turn as in right cheek back on backswing and left cheek back on downswing. Plus the club face is more square to the ball in any position which also helps stopping open or closed face strikes. Timing is not as tight as flipping. Plus you learn to compress the ball better. I bet I've started to confuse you :) Also Monte Sheinblum gives great advice. Don't forget to transition smoothly and start moving your weight on to your left side before your club finishes going back. See Dr. Kwon for timing. The hands are the key! Good luck. It will come and you will hit straighter and further.

I know exactly who Mike is talking about and I agree. Too much jargon and over complications that the best players don't actually do. The arms going out is death for 99% of players and just because a few do it, doesn't mean its optimal. Most PGA Tour pros don't leave their hands up and rotate nor do they drag the handle and then add a ton of right bend, they simply pull the handle pretty vertically and then rotate. It's pretty simple.

This out in front concept works great for irons but I can't get it to work for the driver because it is a flatter swing and needs to come from a more shallow behind angle.

All the great players had the arms go out jacks was always out… tigers dropped with Haney and his big miss was getting stuck but went back to out like he was with butch… Rorys hands drop but he’s so talented and his hips are so fast he can get away with it
@johnrodgers60496 ай бұрын
Tiger when he was with Butch used to get his hands stuck behind. I don’t think he was early extending, but his hips were so fast that the arms couldn’t keep up (out of sequence).
@greatwhite36765 ай бұрын
Tiger was a product of jr golf in the 80s. The way to hit far was to fire your hips and "flip the club" play a hard draw. It was the same in the 90s. As you get older, stronger and the need for precision becomes important that method is not the best. Mike is a gem
@jacobr455813 күн бұрын
In his prime tiger was definitely not hitting a flip draw! Seriously you really think he was dragging his arms and just flipping everything at impact?
@nathanperry9593 Жыл бұрын
my question is does the back of the left wrist need to be facing the target at impact or can it be facing the right of the target. I have found that I have to strengthen my grip to hit it straightish. For the life of me I can't supinate my left wrist enough to have it point at the target at impact. Is this a match up thing with my body anatomy?

Mike, this is the serious problem with golf instruction on KZbin, everyone thinks they know what they’re talking about, and most don’t, so you wind up with misinformation that can really screw up a persons swing. Teaching golf is quite difficult, so much so, that most Tour Pros, both male and female, won’t teach anyone. This is why I ignore 98% of the golf instruction on YT, it’s crap. Cheers.

I don't know what videos you claim to be watching, but no one is complaining about their arms hitting their thighs. The portion of the body people are talking about is how their trail elbow hits their hip, just like you showed when your trail arm kept running into the side of your gut that was sticking over your belt line
