This movie is so aggressively painful. Theres no time to know the characters. You dont meet them in a classroom, or watch them grow up. They are just young men sold a dream of glory and patriotic ideals. And then they are dead. And thats it, their dead And for some reason thats so much worse than "knowing" them. Because as the movie goes on you desire to know them. And they die you know they will never get to know themselves before their deaths.

I watched this movie at class, i was the only one really paying attention, it left me in tears. I searched for some spec of hope to be left but war leaves nothing, 3 minutes before the cease fire. How many died because something that was already agreed on ending had to be dragged on till last minute? It's terrifying how little politicians value their people's lifes, it's madness. I think its the best anti-war movie, because you arent left with one glimpse of glory, reality of war is ugly, children are dying everyday because monsters of human beings just can never have enough.

This fits so well😢 ( In memory of every soldier's life, who was pointlessly squandered in World War 1.) In the trenches, a ghost does dwell, Where the horrors of war, only time can tell. Whispers of loss, echoes of pain, A haunting reminder, amidst bloodstained rain. Soldiers once young, now weary and old, Their stories of bravery, forever untold. Screams in the night, the silence of dread, A ghost in the trenches, where hope has fled. Barbed wire and mud, a chilling sight, Men torn apart, in the darkness of night. Gone are the dreams, of a future so bright, Replaced by the ghost, in the cold, endless fight. So let us remember, the ghost in the trench, The sacrifice made, in a world so drenched. Lest we forget, the horrors of war, And strive for a future, worth fighting for.

In the book, when he dies it switches to 3rd person. I was so confused reading it because the rest was in 1st person. The chapter before he talks about how hard it will be for his family and friends to understand what his generation of men has gone through. When he died, he had a calm and almost relieved face in the book.

This movie and the song combined it's so, i don't know, melancholic? The movie it's a masterpiece. The ambient sound, the looping of the stories, the fact that they were just young and thought they were doing something meaningful and saw the war not as something really serious, only after seeing their comrades dead, they realized the life they were living. And then we are shown that everyone who participated in the war had a family, everyone on the battlefield had no choice but to fight. It's something cruel and heartbreaking, after you realise that this really happened in real life, It's even sadder. War is a horrible thing, I hope something like that never happens again.

I never ended this book. I can't really tell why. When I read it I began to see the glorification of the war in our world. I never really noticed this before. We all are told that being a war hero is beautiful and that's something we should strive for. That fighting for the county is a beautiful sacrifice. But nobody ever told the stories of soldiers who just went there and were scared. The ones that died on the first day on the front. They didn't have enough time to became a hero and the only people that remember them are family. The ones that were passionate about the idea of war but in reality all they saw is just pain. While reading you can see how beautifuly politicians described the sacrifice while doing nothing to end war. I care about the soliders who survived all of those things. I am amazed by their strength. But let's not praise war. It will only lead to more wasted dreams.
