Nice and funny, especially since it cuts counter to the videos claims. These soldiers defrauded the US taxpayer and thought they got away with it because they were guard and not held under the UCMJ...but CID put in warrants for them which flags their background checks, even though CID can't arrest them anymore because they are not in the military anymore. This may seem cynical, but my father told me when I joined the Navy, "Do your job without hesitation and give it 110% effort, but never volunteer, and if you are offered a job or task with the choice to turn it down, always, always, ALWAYS, turn it down". When Uncle Sam offers you money to do something that there is already a department specifically for that purpose, it means they are screwing up, and sometimes, it might be that someone high up is looking to put the blame on someone else.

My Dad who was in the military in the 1950's was demoted to private after 10 years of service and being a Sgt 1st class because his captain wanted him to fix a plane that had a sever fluid leak and my Dad said it couldn't be fixed in time because of lack of parts. My Dad refused to sign off that it was ready to fly. Luckily, my Dad learned how to work on jet engines and after leaving the service shortly after that incident he was employed by open wheel racing legends, Mario Andretti and A J Foyt as a mechanic. This isn't so much "the federal government" as in congress and presidential administration, it's military command and the military Criminal Investigation Department. The CID is similar to the FBI but it's internal to the military and commanded by the Pentagon. It's all federal government but this is like the second head of a two headed beast with a mind and will of it's own.

This is insane. Wouldn't each recruitment be well documented in the records, from the information being typed into the recruitment program, to the fact that those who actually enlist would be documented to go through their training program! Therefore it would only be a process of illumination of which names were never found to have gone through the training program, and then looking at the records to see who claimed them as a legitimate recruitment and got payed for it. And we all know they take ALL your info to get recruited, so does that mean their initial recruiting web site was completely faulty, not secure, safe, or going to any army database? That sounds like a lawsuit on the army or government is in order!

It sounds to me like what happened was that some recruitment offices were taking names of people who were already entering basic training, and entering them into this system as if they had recruited them personally. (To get kickbacks from this program). Unfortunately, calling everyone who went into training during this period and seeing if they remember their recruiter IS the best was to investigate this, at least initially. They should then FOLLOW UP on the suspicious cases, though, instead of giving innocent people criminal records.

Appalling. As a 10 year Army veteran myself, I remembered when I was serving, thinking to myself that I volunteered to defend our country and its citizens their freedom, yet the irony was that I lost mine. When you are a soldier, you are under contract and employed 24/7 by the government. Therefore, you had restrictions on what you can say or do.

18 years into a job, doing the right thing when no one is looking, playing the game to continue getting promoted and avoid social scarlet letters. One day some one under your command or influence does something that draws attention and criticism to themselves and your position. The evidence is questionable, however you know that your peers view this member in a non-favorable way. What do you do? Take the members side and ruin your chance at continuing your career that you've worked so hard for? In 18 years you know that bad things happen to bad and unfortunate people. Don't want to be associated with either. This is the mindset of senior leaders.
