The Marines are a subdivision of the Navy. They fall under the Department of the Navy. They are the division that is supposed to carry out amphibious operations- sea to land, like the invasion of Normandy in WWII. But the only time they really did that was in the Pacific during WWII. All other amphibious operations were carried out by the US Army, or rather the US Army Rangers.

The Marine Corps is a separate and independent branch of the US Armed Forces. There are currently six military branches: Army, Marines, Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force, and Space Force -aka Space Command! 😆 The Marines often work with the Navy as the Army works with the Air Force, but each is independent. IMO, the US Marines have more experience in amphibious operations.
@DepressionShaman11 ай бұрын
@@TheBestDog None of that is true. Expecially considering I was in the US Army for 8 years and my BIL was in the Marine Reserves.
@TheBestDog11 ай бұрын

@@TheBestDog In the Marine Corps we have a MEU. Marine expeditionary unit. We use assault carriers which have Marine corps helicopters and fighter/assault jets. Also we use amphibious units and no tanks. A MEU like the Navy carrier air group patrol the oceans. We don't have to wait for the Army or Air Force. Yes the Navy operates the assault carriers and support ships. A MEU helps setup up UN and NATO bases and humanitarian missions. Evacuations, embassy support and sea port assault. I served 8 years in the Marine Corps. I was stationed on CVN-71 Theodore Roosevelt. I worked on legacy FA 18s. We worked on aircraft and if we were land based, we also built our own airfields and fuel depot. Then we had to protect the aircrafts.

The Marine Corps has more emphasis in discipline, aggression towards the enemy, dealing with situations where you have less, and uniform presentation. The Army is larger, has more funding, can offer more of a bonus, has newer toys and has more career opportunities. The educational requirements are lower to join the Army, contrary to popular belief, but a crayon is still a crayon. Semper Fi

Ummm, only 6 minutes into this video and you've already destroyed the credibility of your researchers. The Marine Corps has always been part of the department of Navy. It was founded specifically for the reason of defending naval ships from boarding by British forces, and still today remains under the department of the Navy.

You’re right and also it’s the US Marines being the only branch of service or unit in particular that doesn’t require a congressional approval for the US president to send anywhere. The navy transports them & marines will go in and previously and do what they gotta do under orders of the US president

Something worth noting.... ONE, main reason.. marines dont get the 'latest' tech is they want battle tested gear. The marines don't like receiving gear that isn't guaranteed to work. Worth saying... *but* to their dismay, they DID pass on the m16 for a long time since it they weren't sure how the new rifles would fair... safe to say the old M1's got replaced.. way later
