Hey I've been following kpop for decades, but BTS paved the way. Yes big bang had a huge influence and tried their best but didn't get that much huge popularity like BTS have in USA and Europe music industry. So you cannot say big bang paved the way. BTS did everything like none from the kpop world were able to do before. Psy got popularity for two three songs not like BTS though. BigBang paved the way for K-pop in Korea itself without BigBanng's influence Bts wouldn't have had the chance to become as popular in Korea because K-pop itself wasn't as popular in Korea before BigBang. But BTS is what opened Kpop to worldwide markets. Overall both BigBang and BTS are important to the evolution of K-pop today. They just influenced the growth of it at different stages, which is why BTS is more well-known worldwide. Remember that while BTS may be our idols, BigBang were BTS's idols and still are.

Yes… because the world was not as globalized in the pre-social media era as it is today… And the West certainly was not receptive to foreign content/products as they do now… not just with K-pop but also with K-drama, K-movies & K-beauty etc. If BTS came into existence during those times, their popularity too would be on the same level as the rest. Social media, along with South Korea’s decades-long marketing efforts & strategy to become a world-leading exporter/importer of entertainment have also played a role in shaping the evolution of K-pop.

I think it’s the other way around, ARMYs feel like no one is acknowledging BTS’s success, and that’s why they often come across as toxic. BTS didn’t invent K-pop, but neither did BIGBANG. There were many legends before BTS, but that doesn’t make BTS any less successful. BTS made K-pop known to the world, and they deserve credit for that. Unfortunately, not everyone likes to admit that BTS paved the way for the industry, which is why ARMYs get upset when someone praises themselves or another group instead of BTS. That awkward moment years and years ago, when Jimin chose Taeyang as the person he admired the most and would like to collaborate with in the 'future'... We also saw their awesome collaboration when it came out - Vibe. If u haven't heard it, please go watch and listen. I was an Army myself. I love our boys. But you know what made me start listening to other groups? Their scary fandom, who behave like immature, entitled little brats. The BTS fandom made their own idols kneel and beg them not to disturb other people's peace. Poor guy comes outta the Army for a few days to his new house and he has to beg the fans to behave, to leave him alone, to not show up at his doorstep... Sad. I love the BTS boys. But i dont call myself Army. All 7 of the BTS are amazing. The whole part of being so amazing is also about humbly accepting the fact that BTS have seniors and people who were in the industry much before them. They might have been even better than them at one point. Don't even start about this whole 'paving the way' debate. Paving the way means building foundations. And there were many more KPop artists who built the foundation before BTS took it abroad on a large scale - H.O.T, Shinhwa, TVXQ, 2PM and yes, Big Bang as well. Even abroad, the first KPop song that went viral is PSY's Gangnam Style in 2012. BEFORE BTS's debut. That built the foundation abroad. So BTS was able to work with all their seniors' previous help even indirectly. Even BTS will be ashamed of these toxic people for trying and insulting people they love, admire and respect so much. Loyalty and dedication is good. But is that loyalty and dedication to your group worth it if u only respect them and not the people they love and respect around them? Do you think your idols will be proud of you? No. They'll feel terribly hurt that people they love are being insulted so badly by the 'fans' that they truly trust and love. If you do not know how to express ur opinions maturely without spreading hate, you shouldn't be on the internet. U should rather be studying 'how to communicate without hurting people'. Its coming to the point of becoming embarrassing. That line is overused and now meaningless because people (some army's) refuse to recognize other groups achievements and keep insisting their bts paved the way...no one asked or cared. But there they will be. These army's need to chill and leave other groups/people alone. Everyone is doing their own bit in their own way. Bts themselves are friends with a lot of idols and wouldn't know what to do, or say with their fans childishness.
