I just came across this vlog this evening. The skirt is an elegant work of art. I don’t know how to knit, but I can do embroidery, cross stitch, and needlepoint. They way you cross stitched the pattern on the fabric was absolutely genius. And as Carlos said, you could do this with any pattern. Thank you for the detailed tutorial. I have been following you for over a year and have loved spending many inspiring hours with you both. Sending hugs!

That was simply fascinating! I have never known how cross stitch could be done so neatly on anything other than a canvas. Now I know that you must have the canvas! And then to see how it was removed. When you first started embroidering the canvas and the fabric together I could not wrap my head around how this was going to work. Brilliant! I really enjoyed this video, thank you so much for sharing it.

I read once that some waste canvas removes easier when it’s wet too, and I tried it on a cotton tshirt and it seemed to help some with the removal ... but obviously that would depend on the fabrics and string you’re using if the colors might bleed or you want to avoid getting it wet at all.

I have worked with waste canvas and was not pleased with the feel; grabby to point of tackiness. I would be willing to try the regular canvas. Would pulling some of the threads beforehand make it easier without causing issues with the quality of the pattern? just a thought. Keep up the great videos!

What a beautiful damask skirt! I love the color!!!! But, the work of pulling Aida cloth is so time consuming. You may want to research the actual 'waste canvas' made especially for this craft. It can be pulled out very easily. Comes in several thread counts. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us. Blessings, ^__^
@ARNECARLOS
@ARNECARLOS 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. This is actually a sablé skirt. As for the canvas, we couldn't get waste canvas in our local craft store, so we had to make do with Aida, which is what they had available. Indeed, we agree that waste canvas is much easier to use than Aida, but to show the technique, it is still doable with Aida.

That looks like regular Aida cloth. I am wondering if you know about something called waste canvas? I am just learning to work with it now so am not an expert, but it seems to me that the threads of a waste canvas would put out much easier. Also waste canvas often has a blue line on it every 5 stitches so it helps in keeping track of where you are.

@ARNECARLOS
@ARNECARLOS 7 жыл бұрын
Tessiegril Yes, it's easier to use a water soluble canvas, obviously. However, this is the alternative option, for those who may not find a water soluble canvas in their local crafts store. This is also the more traditional way to do it, which may be interesting to know about. Also, the silk fabric in the video can not be wet as it's too delicate and "dry clean only".

Do you ever use soluble cross stitch fabric to work on? x
@ARNECARLOS
@ARNECARLOS 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, but this is what we had at the day of filming. Also, the fabric is a silk that can not be washed in the machine, so a water soluble canvas would have been out of the question for this particular fabric.

Why not use water soluble cross stitch fabric?
@ARNECARLOS
@ARNECARLOS 7 жыл бұрын
GarysOnlyGal *** That's obviously an option too, of course! But in this case, the silk skirt fabric we used in the video is so delicate it can not be put in water as it is a "dry clean only" garment that would be ruined in water. So there is no way a water soluble canvas could be used here. Also, in case that the water soluble canvas is not available in the local shop, THIS is the traditional, old school way to do it, which we think a lot of people might be interested in learning about.
