Arnold's Announce STACKED 2024 Strongman and Strongwoman Line-up

Thanks for clarifying that the ASC is an invitational. I think that gets forgotten. Historically, we've always issued invitations to recent winners for the ASC who were still active as we know fans like to see them in action. That's why Thor and Martins were invited and also why in the recent years we've also invited other champions who, in some cases were still competing, but decided not to enter the Arnold. The reason we have 11 men in the contest this year is because we've had a tradition of inviting 10 athletes and then inviting someone to be the alternate--an athlete who comes to Columbus and is ready but does not compete unless someone drops out before the contest begins. It's always bothered me that these athletes have trained hard, made the trip, and yet didn't get to participate. So, I asked Brian Powers, who now directs the Classic, earlier this fall, if we could invite 11 athletes this time and if everyone showed up, then all 11 would compete. If someone is injured and drops out, we go with 10. I was delighted when Brian agreed to that suggestion--and love the fact that more athletes will get to compete because of it. This is by far the best line up we've seen so far at the Arnolds. Having the 5 most recent WSM champions there is huge. I hope it's 6 events.

This might help Mateusz. everyone is so strong that even without weaknesses it's possible for any of the other athletes to end up 7th or 8th in an event they're relatively good at. So if Mateusz can dominate the other events and there is no clear other person constantly being second, then who knows. The real wild card will be Hafthor, who knows if he'll still have it in him after dropping that much weight and being several years older now.

Oh Thor have it, and he is very likely to come in bulky, Thor is very disciplined and he knows he has to come in heavy, maybe not 200KG heavy, but he will bulk, he is already doing Raw cuaduple sets of 340KG with the elephant bar. Also if there is any throwing event that is a good place for Thor as he broke his throwing record still in his boxing shape. The thing with Mateusz is how many places will he drop in the deadlift this time? This year he got lucky finished 7th, But with this line up he will end 9th, unless Maxime gets him, then he will be 10th

That's a really good point about the scoring. I had been thinking about athletes getting between top contenders here and there, causing someone to drop a place or two, but didn't really consider how someone could place near the bottom in an event they are good at. A good example of that was the log for reps at the Rogue, where there were so many excellent log pressers that some scored poorly. Mateusz could definitely benefit from that as long as he only drops points in the deadlift and dominates other events.

If we still had the ASC qualifiers he most certainly wouldn't be in this competition because he wouldn't have competed in a qualifier. So, there's precedent for a guy who hasn't competed in two years not being invited. I'm fine with it, btw. I just see the argument.

From what Halfthor said himself around a month ago, he does not expect to reach peak form to this competition, but wants to return and has to start somewhere. Having had a stillborn child in the meanwhile, may have effected his prep as well. Interesting to see, if he had his head in the game - and absolutely understandable, if he has not.

Like last year with Rebecca it seems that whomever decides these invites is clueless. Us fans want to see the best against the best and without Inez there we are not getting that. 😡 The men's side is super stacked and an exciting line up. It has to be said that this show has had a qualifier event now for nearly 10 years on the men side. It wasn't incorrect for Strongman Corp to say the ameture is a qualifier when it has been long established between the two organizations. What now is up for debate is whether the women ameture show is a qualifier now. Im not sure why there seems to be debate there since the men's ameture open has been established for years like I mentioned. Either way, the communication between the Arnold team and Strongma Corp needs to improve because its only leaving the athletes in a bad position.

The most dominant strongman in a single year, the most dominant rookie season in a single year, the athlete with the most amount of dominant events with one weakness, .........there are so many ways to promote this. I wish they would do a documentary about this Arnolds like they did back when Shaw, Hall, Thor and Big Z all went against each other. Amazing documentary about that event. They only really focused on those four though..........this year is something on an entirely different level. Edit: I also fucking loved the animations.........they were hilarious.

If Thor was coming in and fighting hard for a place around 8th-11th then i could understand people saying others deserve the spot. But frankly I can't see a version of Thor out of the top 5 in this show even if he's not 100 percent and if he's at his best, however unlikely then he will more than likely podium and perhaps win it. I've watched strongman for two decades and Thor was unbelievable from 2018 onwards. Outside of injury he completely dominated, some people have short memories.

No. Everybody can get injured and I also said Dan Bell was capable of increasing his record too so Thor might've ended up chasing a different record. What a strange comment, I'm not a hater and I watched Thor put up an 1100 total with 5 weeks of specific prep. Why would I doubt him?

It really depends on the events, many athletes that could win/podium, its gonna be an amzing comb for sure. And I think if Thor could get Top 5 it would be a huge win for him (considering he hasn't competed in 3 years and with all the stuff that happened to him lately) and the others should be worried about how he will progress going from that.

What a Line up! Hard to predict who will win this honestly! All depends on what kind of shape Martins,Thor comes in. Anyone out off Martins, Thor, Tom or Mitch can win it. Novikof can also do well and surprise people if he comes in top form off 2-3 years ago. Probably the hardest to predict we have ever seen. I do honestly think We haven't seen the best off Tom Stoltman yet. And like you said a real fire has been lit under him since he lost at worlds. He seems super motivated and driven currently. Also going to be very interesting seeing what kind Off form Thor comes in. Martins is always dangerous and him resting for a year might have been a master stroke to give him some much needed recovery and energy that many athletes tend to lose from being active too much.

Thor won’t be at peak strength at this show IMO. He’s had too much time off. Martins may be rested but I don’t think 3 months is enough time to get back to his peak strength. Tom and Mitch should come in at peak form, hopefully Novikov has recovered from his injuries this year. Provided Mateusz trains correctly, he could be at closest to his peak that he’s been in 4 years and he could kick some real ass. Evan is good but full of hot air. If it goes how I hope, 1. Mateusz 2. Tom 3. Martins.

He may well be worthy of an invite for the Arnold being a previous champ etc and he will draw a good number of eyeballs to it which will be a factor. However personally I would rather he had done something before this comp to see where he is at, because let's be honest, nobody wants to see an off form thor. We want to see him on top form or close to it at least. Martins on the other hand I think is far easier to invite after a year off as that's what he has been doing for the last couple of years

There are alot of what ifs this Arnold. Hafthor is a what if he's great. Martins is a what if he's great. Mateusz is a what if he's great. Tom is a what if he comes in on point. Novikov is a what if he can keep up with all the heavy weights. I expect them to do well but they have all either got gaping weaknesses, are inconsistent, or they haven't been in for a long while. Without seeing events I would put money on Mitch winning, Tom coming second and Novikov third based just on how long it's been since Hafthor and Martins competed and the heavy reputation that the Arnolds has but second and third could be any big name. If anyone comes in as their best they'll win but you never bet on a what if.

I can see the arguments for and against inviting Thor owing to his break from the sport. And any speculation on how he will perform is just that. We won't know until he steps out there for the first event. But I know one thing for certain: Betting *against* Thor performing well is not a good idea. Ever.
