I think it's wrong to cheat and it's not something I would ever do due to my morality (my father was a cheater and it ripped our life and family apart, I could never do that to my family after seeing the damage first hand) but at the same time... Isn't it better in the end that he (Arnold) did? Otherwise Joseph Baena would not exist. I'm sure he (Joseph) likes existing and being the spitting image of his father. Also, I have no idea what it would be like to be as 'in-demand' as Arnold was. The guy was basically king of the world at his peak and would have to be batting away women all the time, constantly. At that level (and also with Arnold having a reputation as being a massive flirt) I would think that Maria might have had an inkling from the start that he would struggle to remain 100% faithful to her. I've also heard that there is animosity between the Schwarzenegger kids and Joseph Baena, which is just sad to hear if ture. He had nothing to do with the affair, it is heartbreaking to see that he is not included in family photos with the other siblings and Maria etc. (even when they attend the same events). The siblings should stick together and be inclusive of Joseph imo, and Maria should be try to be inclusive. I'm sure that if my father did have children outside of his marriage with my mother, that I would treat them as my brother/sister all the same.

What Arnold did was sick. He carried on with the housekeeper in the same house where he and his wife lived. It must have killed Maria to think of the many instances where the three were in the same room, with the other two harboring this enormous ugly secret. And the housekeeper is guilty too of enormous deceit to Maria. The son is of course innocent in all this, but to know your mother is capable of such enormous deceit must be difficult to wrap your mind around.

This is such an embarrassing and painful situation that will hunt the family forever. I believe that he’s regretful and has apologized but sadly apologies will never erase the harm, pain and embarrassing situation, that will stay forever and ever. Been in Maria’s shoes is an awful experience, believe me. Whether you stay or not in a marriage with this issue it will always be hard. In her case she decided to divorce him but the embarrassing experience and the pain stays with you no matter what, The kid is not at fault but it will always be a constant reminder, it’s just sad.

A good man or woman can make a mistake, you learn from it, be an open book with the other and if the love is there, it could be even better than before. I did make that awful mistake with a narcissist and when my husband and I start over again he told me....I will never mention anything about your affair cause I don't want to ruin your memories but if you want to talk about it, I'm here with you. It been 20 years now and he never once mention it or his name. THAT IS AN ANGEL and a good man, he's my soulmate and always will be.

I wouldn't, there would be no reason for it, I'd enjoy much more to continue on my own perhaps find a new man or stay single and enjoy it. It's fun to be single, and to do whatyou couldn't do while you were married! Go on spontanic daytrips or vacations without having to discuss and plan and make sacrifices, beeing with your friends and family as much as you want, especially with your divorced friends, discover that life is more than staying at home with a cheating spouse who apparently doesn't think much of you anyway..

I understand having an affair, it's an awful betrayal but certainly "common" enough. What I don't understand is keeping the maid employed in his home so she can interact with his wife and children for years. I do. It think in general there are many men who are faithful. That is why it’s very important for women to be realistic and let the man serve you not the other way around. As women who tend to naturally nurture we have to pull that energy back some to keep the man in pursuit. They do this type of bs when they become too confident that they have you. It’s a stupid game one must play but it is necessary. Unconditional love should only be for the children not the husband. The Netflix documentary was extraordinary I watched it twice.

If people aren’t happy in their relationship, they can leave it, but cheating has a lot of far-reaching consequences-for the wronged spouse’s mental health, for the mental health of any children involved, for the physical health of the wronged spouse if an STD gets brought home, etc. Some people are never able to recover fully from being cheated on and never have a happy relationship again because they’re constantly on the defensive and suspicious of future partners. It’s just awful.

She always knew about Arnold's transgressions since the 80s. He had lots during their whole relationship. The difference this time was the child with the housekeeper. When they both were dating in 1984, Arnold had a brief stint with his co-star Bridgette Nielsen while doing Red Sonja. Bridgette claims, Maria knew about their affair, but she did not make a big deal out of it. She did get Arnold to commit to getting married after that, which happened shortly after that in 1985.

I just wonder if Maria made the right choice divorcing her husband of over 20 years w 4 kids etc. I am a Counselor and just because a spouse cheats doesn’t mean you should end the marriage. Obviously I am not privy to all their details but many Kennedy women stayed married when their husbands cheated and I really believe they are glad they stayed. JFK cheated a lot but Jacqueline wrote in her memoirs that she loved him deeply and was glad she stayed married despite his philandering. It sounds like Arnold was very contrite and it wasn’t like he slept w the maid every day over 13 years. I know couples can find trust after adultery and be stronger even when they choose to stay together.

I have watched this documentary twice . It was incredibly inspiring. It is extremely difficult to understand how he could have f…Ed up this bad on his wife who loved and supported him through everything. He had an extraordinary life with exception to this horrible choice he made. There was one part where he talked about the stain in his marriage during his time in office but it seems this affair happened way before that so one has to wonder if he had numerous affairs. It wouldn’t be surprising in the sense that if you look at the Kennedy clan that seemed to be rhe MO of the men in that family. They were incredibly driven and powerful and set incredible precedence’s but were also heathens when it came to their fidelity to their spouses. So why wouldn’t Maria fall for a man just like her uncles. It’s crazy how patterns repeat themselves and those women were all such extraordinary women. I love the fact that she immediately divorced him once she discovered the truth. Good for her. More than her predecessors who back in those days women just took it. It shows the correct example of how to deal with a philanderer. I mean she the housekeeper has their children a month apart. God I can’t believe the devastation she must have felt o fr she thought about it in detail 😢💔
