I think an important point of comparison here as well is that the Blueair does cost significantly more to purchase than the Aroeve for a budget device. I have been researching air purifiers and while the filters are more expensive for the Aroeve, it's $90 for the Aroeve versus $170 for the Blueair.

I am really enjoying this series. I am also curious how a Corsi-Rosenthal box would do in these tests. It is basically 4 individual 20x20 air filters taped to a box fan on the top and cardboard on the bottom. It seems that these became popular to combat wildfire smoke in homes and was also used to reduce airborne covid virus. Thank you for doing these tests!

@@zodiacfml a real corsi-rosenthal box, not a single filter on a single fan. Four merv 13 3M 1900 series filters on a $20 lasko box fan in a box fashion with the fan pointing up. I run them and they will destroy most air purifiers. These are built with surface area and static pressure at the forefront of their design. These traditional filters are built with gimmicks and selling filters in mind.

@@sycksyn agreed. i have seen countless DIY air purifiers. these products they review don't stand a chance. hard to believe that these products takes half the time or longer for dust to settle down vs without air purifier, I expected faster like 1/4 or 1/8 the duration of no purifier.

I'm about to buy one of the new but older models Shark vacuums because of this channel. Before I do, however, one extremely important factors is readily available replacement parts...OEM and aftermarket. Intuitively, I feel I can't go wrong with the very affordable and thousands made Navigator. Anyone feel me, or am I not thinking straight.

Shark is notoriously bad at parts availability for repair. They sell complete assemblies of certain things, but not a lot of individual parts.

@@biggregg5 there are videos of people that own blueair units for many years, I don't think they have replacement parts but the old blueair units were incredibly solid, afaik the old "pro" models were a metal frame with only the external case being plastic

Seems like the scoring for sound vs airflow is broken. If your low is at 60db that means it’s not making it into my office or bedroom. Should just get a fat 0 imo.

not much to separate good air purifiers from one another, and not much better from DIY. What is the difference between an auto empty dust bin for robot and cordless vacs vs an air purifier except for motor noise/speed?

Filters matter a lot when you care about VOC filtration. Carbon quantity, quality and other added compounds is what you truly want to look for. The HEPA part isn't as relevant as long as the unit has good air flow.

I don't think it's fair or accurate to rate a filtration system based on a feature that is a) not tested by you and b) generally known to be bunk based on science. Bacteria and viruses need several seconds of UV exposure in order to become inactivated, and the flow rate of air purifiers is too fast for that to be possible.

The voice of this video sounds like a professional for an advertising agency. Made me almost skeptical of the results. Had to check my ears 👉👂the new voice threw me off. Although this new voice has great qualities, I miss the previous narrator. He has a long reputation, gives the impression of speaking from experience. Reliable. But since this is the v2.0 + new Air Purifier category. Maybe this new voice will be the voice for the future purifier videos; and will build trust in audience over time.

2:30 A higher rating for filtering smaller particles isn't better. 0.3 micron is actually the hardest size particle to capture (counterintuitively, even harder than 0.1 micron). 99.99% at PM0.1 doesn't mean that it's is also capable of capturing 99.99% of PM0.3. There's info about this all over the internet, so if you're going to continue reviewing air purifiers, I'd suggest reading up on it.

Air Purifiers are a grift. Testing for these products are done in sealed conditions. In real world use, people leave their doors and windows open and air purifiers will have little to no effect.
