The family farm I grew up on used wd-45s for planting, spraying, snow plowing, and everyday general use until the mid 2000s.

Just remember there are two different Persian Orange shades. This would have been Persian #1. It’s a lighter shade than the later Persian #2, which was a more red color.

I've been around Allis all my life. I have a 55 WD45 my grandpa bought new. Yours is a factory 3 bolt wide front. That loader was a model WD9 made for Allis by Freeman loader co. The hood decal is aftermarket and not anywhere near correct. Hopefully it doesn't slip out of 3rd gear. After the WD they changed the transmission, and 3rd gear wore out in them because its the most used gear. They were like that all the way thru the D series and 100 series. You got a nice straight tractor, the hand clutch sounds good, with a sharp snap. When you get it done with good paint and decals it'll look sharp! Allis used 3 different colors of orange. Yours should have persion orange #1 to be correct. It'll look much nicer with the correct paint. Good luck on a great project!

Nice looking old WD-45. Those oil filters were like that from the factory. Good old tractors, torquey little tractors. They sound pretty good, probably won’t take much to get it going. Thanks for the videos, JT.

When you change the plugs and wires, remember Allis engines firing order is 1-2-4-3. Also lever on the left of the steering wheel is for the Traction Booster system. When you get to a tough spot in the field, depending on how you have the lever set it will pick up the implement momentarily to boost traction. Pull lever that was going to the "PTO" is actually the release for the snap coupler implements.

I can remember driving a WD 45 when I was a kid it was an old tractor then, and needed lots of work to make it run better, but we just stopped using it, and it never got fixed 😢.
@rickhultman3382 күн бұрын
Spin on oil filters were factory on the W-D's and 45's. The hand clutch was for semi live power, push in the hand clutch and the tractor stops forward motion but the PTO continues running, great for baling heavy hay. . Throw a 12 volt battery in it and a cheap resistor in front of the coil and you don't have to get a 12 volt coil.
@notajp4 күн бұрын
Now we’re talking! My favorite tractors! My grandpa had A-C tractors and that’s what I first drove as a kid. His first new tractor was a WD45. I still own his second new tractor, a 57 Allis-Chalmers D-17. Very popular tractors in the day. Still a lot of them around. I still prefer the Snap Coupler system to the three point hitch. Much easier to use! Nice to see how straight those fenders are. As Brian said, they usually get beat to hell in the rear. Those rear wheel weights are a real bonus! Yes, the one lever is the throttle and the one on the other side is the hydraulic control. Hand clutch allows for live PTO. The two pull rods are for choke and starter.
@billyhord45086 күн бұрын
Talk about going orange paint. Those Allis Chalmers were great tractors. Cultivated a lot of West Texas cotton with a narrow front Allis. Bet it's sweet when finished, especially with that wide front. Next thing you know, you'll be dragging home an Oliver. Great video, stay warm. Only 80 here in Central Texas today.
@jtsbarnngrill68736 күн бұрын
I’d take an Oliver 😉
@tomriggs39265 күн бұрын
Given time you guys will figure it out. The "L" shaped rod pulls the lock bar on the Snap Hitch underneath. The hand clutch will stop the wheels. You'll have to use the foot clutch to change gears and shift the PTO. When I started driving my Grandpa's WD, i was so little, I'd have to stop with the tractor with the hand clutch. Slide off the seat and push the foot clutch, shift gears, and get back on the seat. He had power steering installed, in later years.
@t.c.bowling19346 күн бұрын
The 45 will be a handy utility tractor! My Uncle had one to move hay wagons. Between the farms was a hill in the road. It would push the 45 down hill and flames would shoot out the exhaust pretty scary as a kid!

Now you need an Allis Chalmers All Crop 72 or 66 big bin to pull behind it! 😆 I have a 60 and we ran soybeans with it last fall and I tell you what there wasn’t a single pod in the bin! Does an excellent job in lots of different crops and they were known for doing an excellent job in clover. I think with a hand clutch it’s basically just like a live PTO and just disengages your drive but I’m not positive on that. I’ve never really been around that many Allis Chalmers tractors.
