I liked your story guys, but I have to be frank, the only problem I had with this video was that the camera 'person' kept on moving the camera back and forth cutting either Lisa or Jason out ( mainly Lisa) of the picture even when they were still speaking. Both were facing inwards slightly and could well have been filmed together throughout the whole video, it was about both of them. Probably better just to use a tripod should there be a next time.

Lisa and Jason, instead of mousses which won't last and create heat and add unsprung weight have you considered converting the KTM rims to tubeless via Outex tape? I think the KTMs have the safety shoulders on the inside (my 690 does) so once "Outexed" they should be able to fit tubeless tyres. When I did the 7,350 mile extended TAT on my own I really loved being able to fix punctures with a plug in seconds without taking the wheels off. Also consider Tubliss system which will always hold the tyre on the rim but you do need a genuine 100 PSI pump to keep the inner core pumped up. Outex is my choice as long as the rims have safety shoulders. Did you read my comments re 3 ring piston conversion to extend oil changes?

Their mousse / tire combo lasted the 3k miles or so they put on with the baja phase of the trip, we have them back to the shop now and will be putting on even more miles on those here around Vegas 💪🏽

Fellow 500 exc rider here, you are making a great choice - enjoy :-) BTW my nitro mousse premium are 5k miles old and miles better than the michelin i had before as they just did not last, a tip is that over time you can inject small amounts of lube in with a syringe to keep them juiced without removing the tyre - tell them, i am sure you will or have done by now, it will certainly remove some of their worries

Good topics, as always Mike. I'm looking into ideas on carrying a tablet but could not catch the app she spoke of and how they arranged remote buttons for the tablet's app controls. Any advice would be appreciated. I've used Zumo XTs, Garmin, phones, etc. before also. I also heard that common myth from your audience member at 59:52 mins, on meat diet for riding .. but distance travelers primarily need carbs just as larger populations do. Funny how this came up so I thought I should mention it for travelers planning what to bring.

Sounds like an amazing time! Enjoy! Although the devil is in the details. That’s said maybe you could provide some insight for me… 1. How is this trip financed? 2. What is your budget seems like a lot when you factor in gas, food, lodging, repairs, fun, border crossings/visas/brides, initial cost (bikes/gear) and possibly insurances (see #3)? 3. Do you carry health/extraction/vehicle insurance for each county you visit (since USA insurance worthless outside of USA/canada)? 4. Do you have a detailed list of what has been done to the bike? And a list all stuff you are bringing? 5. What app(s) are you using for routing? Weather prediction? 6. Are you carring a emergency beacon? 7. How do you plan on carring emergency cash? Thank you in advance. Ride on!

Why have you started with 500s? Why not 701 Long Range?
@human1513
@human1513 6 ай бұрын
701's do not have great durability and are heavier & bulkier than 500's. I might have considered the 2023, 2024 Honda Transalp 750 XL twin cylinder which I own.
@datscher0273
@datscher0273 6 ай бұрын
@@human1513 The Transalp 750 XL weighs almost as much as the F800GS and more than the F650GS they used to ride... they wanted light weight bikes, so why would they choose one that is almost as heavy? Little comparison (even converted kg to lbs for you): BMW F800GS - 207-213kg (456-469lbs) BMW F650GS - 194kg (427lbs) Husqvarna 701 - 147kg (324lbs) KTM 690 Enduro r - 146kg (321lbs) KTM EXC-F 500 (2023) - 105,5kg (233lbs) (The specs are what I found on the brand or dealers websites) Even with a bigger tank and the rally tower, they are still far away from the (in comparison) heavy weight of a 701, not even mentioning the weight of a Transalp 750... I made the same calculations and had the same thoughts throughout the last couple of months, when I made the decision to change from a Yamaha Tenere 700 to a KTM 500 EXC. Even though I love the T7 and had many fun kilometers travelling through Europe on it, it's just way to heavy for me and the kind of riding I want to do. And they're situation sounds just all too familiar to mine, only difference is, that they have a couple of years more experience than I do.

lower the suspension… The advantages of having the lowered suspension far outweigh the travel and stroke that was discussed in the video. for the majority of us out here, the ability to touch the ground is way more advantageous than having the travel or proper stroke on the suspension. especially when you’re not hard-core riding and it’s easier not to tip the bike over when you can’t reach the ground. I am 5’ 10” and have a 30 inch inseam, at 55 years old and a ton of riding, I’ll take a shorter bike versus a more capable bike any day.

Be very happy you didn't buy a crf300L (250 is worse). I watched all the youtube videos, got one, loved it for about 3 months until I realized it's dangerous for too many reasons. I got a 22' 500 exc and it's night and day better, sooooo much better they are not in the same league.

@@TACOMOTOCO correct!, i own one which i passed big parts of the TET with (i also own a husky 450 and ktm 525) The seat height is good and can be easily raised by remodelling for taller riders.So thanks although the question wasnt at you rather than David an expert in all internet bollox it seems.....
