Everything is good....but what I felt is the video is running few seconds ahead of voice....please if you can sync it it will be really good. Due to this we have to rewind the video several times to catch up the sync. Good explanation and great video.

Guru ji, This video is very informative and helped me in creating merged dimensions . I'm little bit confused with the same, @4.28 u said merged dimension is a join and @9.36 u said it as a union , i know im missing something please help me out in understanding how merged dimensions work JOIN or UNION ? -- Thank u so much .

Thanks for your kind words but Guru is big appreciation for me. I am a small developer and just attempting to pay back my tiny contribution to vast DWH community. Coming back to your question, when we create multiple ( say -2) queries and try to merge, BO pulls both result-set and tries to find a common join, a common relationship or link between both result-set. Once we establish a common link and create that common link as merged dimension, it retrieves all the values from all the original dimensions that are part of the merged dimension. Union refers to pulling all values from dimensions that are part of the merged dimension.

I have my another query... I don't have access of my univers in my office. Hence want to manage a query locally. So here we go... In my product table I have warranty status as y and n. Y stands for yes n stands for no. The other column is warranty year which is currently with wrong information. As of now I just want to show in that if warranty status is y then show it as product name & "With warranty". If the warranty status is n then show only product name. Plz assist

Hi Harshal, by local query, I am assuming you are using an excel file as data source. If product name is common object for your universe query and excel query, you can merge product name and create a detail object for warranty status. You can use merged product name in a conditional function something like this - =if [warranty status] =”Y” Then [product name_Merged]+” With warranty” else [product name_Merged]

I have two data bases which has product details, one for 2017 and another for 2016.... I want to see all product details for 2017 and matching product names in 2016. in short in 2017 product table I also want to flag which of these products also been sold in 2016. please help me in this.

I would suggest to merge both data-providers(for 2017 & 2016) and use product object from 2017 DP. That way, it will be controlling dimension. You can create a conditional variable based on 2016 DP and use it with controlling dimension to show flags.

Can you tell me if we have two queries, with only one common dimension, say in query 1, we have customer, year and sales and in query 2 we have customer, procurement and week, so if I merged both the two queries, how will it have an impact on the results on my reports. Again, I need another column on my report which will show max salary, second-highest salary and Max Salary- 10 ....? It was being asked during my interview hence need an clarity...

You can use joins in universe design process. In BI launchpad, there is no option to create joins manually. I am assuming you are not talking about free-hand sql in BI Launchpad.
