Well done. Our experience was very similar (Asturias), but folks should, as you stated, keep in mind that some processes could be different. For example, in Oviedo, at the fingerprint appointment, they told us to go on-line and make an appointment for any time after 6 weeks to pick up the card. There was no phone call involved.

I understand the frustrations of a bureaucracy process, it took me seven years to get my residency in California (I am from Asturias). Regarding Spain, the bureaucracy there is not the best but if I can give you a good piece of advice, I will tell you to try to do everything at a personal level. To accomplish anything in Spain it is better to deal with government officials face to face since rules can be broken, steps can be shorten and specially connections can be stablished with government officials. Other very good option it is to hire the services of a "Gestoria" that they will do all the legal papers for you.
@DaysWeSpend Жыл бұрын
That's really great advice. Thank you so much for sharing it.
@crruan114211 ай бұрын
Absolutely hiring an expert who is already familiar with the bureaucratic processes as well as knowledgeable of the staff of the various departments is the best way to go, especially if you are just arriving into the country and do not have experience with moving overseas.

I didn't have the chance to watch this video before... well done!!! (clearly, a congrats arriving almost a year later!) -- I know that when you are doing all sort of admin steps in a new country, the language layer you have to go through is sometimes intimidating. Being from Argentina but having done all those things in New Zealand over a decade ago, I definitely understand the stress you go through when completing forms and waiting for calls from someone that might speak too fast .... You pronounce the words in Spanish very well!! I imagine your Spanish is way better after a full year :) Did you guys do your NIE in the US or you did it when arrived in Spain? :)

Hey guys, great video, thank you so much. Two quick questions? (1)You mentioned that you completed the Proof of payment model 790 code 012 form online then printed it. So, will I need to purchase a printer? (2)Will I need a Spanish tel number for the TIE? ie should I purchase a Spanish cellphone soon after arriving in Spain? Regards, Peter
@DaysWeSpend9 ай бұрын
You either need a printer, or you can bring your forms to a print shop. There are many of them in Spain. Just search "copias" into Google Maps. You will need a Spanish telephone number for the TIE. You can get a Spanish cell phone plan after arriving and change your phone number during your fingerprinting appointment.

Thank you guys! A problem I will have is that I will probably be bringing one or even two cats with me. I can leave them in the UK at home with a cat sitter while I am in Spain during the first 30 days, getting my TIE. Very helpful video, thanks.You dont mention having to have proof of medical insurance, maybe you already showed that to get your visa. For EU citizens we still also need this medical insurance even though we are theoretically entitled to Spanish healthcare the same as in our own country in europe. Its just another hurdle. Also I believe you can not register for your empadronamiento until you have your TIE and an address., nor can you open a Spanish bank account without it, nor as you show in another video can you rent an apartment without it. So you cant open the bank account, to rent the apartment , to register for empadronamiento, to get your TIE. Its a whole vicious cycle of bureaucracy. Plus to be clear when you try to get an appointment online to apply for your TIE the website almost always says "no appointments available at present, try again later" , so you have to keep logging onto their website multiple times per day over weeks until at last there is a spot available. And all of this is in Spanish with no translation available. Hiring a "gestor" to do all of this for you is an option.Overall its a nightmare.
@DaysWeSpend11 ай бұрын
We had to show proof of medical insurance when we applied for the visa. It's not part of getting your TIE if you have applied for the NLV. Yes, bureaucracy can be so tricky. We got our empadronamiento without the TIE. You just need a signed lease agreement, your NIE (which is on your visa), and your passport. It did take us a very long time to get a Spanish bank account. We used Wise and N26 bank until we could get a local Spanish one.

This is a great video, thank you so much! I have a quick question, I was able to get all the documents and went to the police station after getting the appointment, however they told me that they need to first understand what kind of residence I have and the only thing they checked was my passport and didn't look at other documents. Did anyone else get the same or similar cases?

I’m in the process of applying for my NLV. I’ll be staying at an Airbnb and looking for something more permanent once I’m there. I didn’t know about the TIE though and that I’d basically only have 30 days to find a place. Unfortunately what I need isn’t as simple as any old apartment. I’m in the states and didn’t want to rent something sight unseen. What happens if you can’t find a permanent address within that 30 days?
@DaysWeSpend16 күн бұрын
We stayed in an airbnb for the first month and during that time found our apartment. We honestly don't know what happens if you can't get a permanent address in those 30 days. At the minimum, you'll need the address before you have your NIE fingerprinting appointment. So maaaaaaybe there's some wiggle room. But you do have to prove that you booked the appointment before those 30 days are up. Typically, the appointments are after the 30 day period because the likelihood of the appointment being available during the first 30 days is usually very small. Good luck with your NLV!

We aren't sure if this is allowed, but our guess is that it's not...? Check your local expat groups. Usually these appointments are made available on a specific time and day of the week. Someone will know when that is.
