Having slaved over this for 3 months I know it intimately! This was near the end of his life and I was so pleased to hear him play it, probably not so differently from in his youth. The cadenzas still sparkled, the tempo was just right, the conception marvellous.

The nobility of expression and tonal majesty are still very much there and the few small inaccuracies really don't matter. One of a kind!

I am so fortunate to have found this channel, and I humbly want to thank you. Your play list have many pianists I have never heard of. Arrau plays this piece by Franz Liszt with emotional artistry of sublime tenderness and feeling. ❤

For a moment I read "Sonetto 47" and thought "It cannot be 😮", but actually it wasn't 😂. I wonder why he didn't record the first Sonetto. His sound and intensity in his mature years are incredible 🤩.

There are other omissions I've wondered about, especially for someone who talked so much about playing the complete works of a composer. He recorded nearly all of Chopin, but you never heard him play a mazurka, and of the polonaises, only the polonaise-fantasy. Brahms is also a mystery - where are the shorter pieces (intermezzi, etc), which are certainly "serious" enough.

I am a big fan of Claudio Arrau . I have all his recordings, and I love the most of them. But there are pieces I am glad he didn’t record. Among them are the Chopin Mazurkas and the remaining polonaises. Also among the Hungarian Rhapsodies he fortunately only recorded the most serious ones. On the other hand I would have loved to hear him play the Brahms Rhapsodies or the great piano works by Franck .
