I'm only just getting to know the music of Lyadov. In the hands of people like Richter, Sofronitsky, Volodos, Feinberg, etc. these miniatures are gorgeous!

Truly, how badly people understood these. Just that No.9 is played delicatissimo with soft pedal, with the right hand very fluid, as fast as possible and without displaying any effort. Incredible technique

The sweetness of tone in this recording is unsurpassed. He really had that knack for elevating the humblest piece.

I love hearing unique interpretations like this. I love it. These Ballades are as great as piano composition gets. I couldn't live without them. I've recently listened to the Garrick Ohlsson Hyperion set and they are absolutely sublime. Now I have to go back and get the coda right in this piece. One day. :)

Koczalski is superb with these pieces. I'm surprised I haven't heard of him. I know him now. :) Thanks.

Astound playing. He's the only pianist out of many that makes the last movement interesting and engaging. So many pianists make it repetitive and boring. There are a lot of comments about Hofmann "banging" with his left hand. You have to listen through the distortion of the old recording technology. That's where most of the banging impression comes from. Someday maybe AI technology will be able to filter all that out and fill out the frequency response of the piano to give more accurate reproduction of his sound.

I usually don’t really like Rachmaninov but these performances are truly amazing. Miss Slenczynska is a genius. All of her performances I’ve heard are incredible. We are lucky to have her in our world.

Medtner's pianism is astonishing. Maybe he wasn't in the best condition in his 1947 recordings (it was reacorded before his 2nd infarct), but those earlier recordings are fresh, beutifull and pianisticaly perfect!

A compatriot and contemporary of Argerich and Barenboim, Gelber is nearly forgotten these days, but some of us remember this outstanding pianist. His recordings of Brahms, Beethoven and Mozart are particularly excellent.

Welche Kompetenzen sollten in unserer Zeit junge Dirigenten nachweisen???

Brava, Rosa! She does shed light on several of the pieces as a pianist who cared about every note and nuance and had a wonderful musical ear and style. Yes her early demise was a loss for usw all, but at least we have this. Frank Marshall taught both Alicia and Rosa well and had two pianists with outstanding talents.

Ondine doesn't have the magical atmosphere, exquisite lyricism, swirl, and glowing shimmer of Michelangeli's 1958 recording, but Le gibet and Scarbo are stunning.
