It may not be true always. For example, when we change the lower limit in the program, it is not necessarily 0. Although you may use the technique you have mentioned, it's better to be on the safer side and use the technique provided by the teacher for it may help you score marks by step marking. :)

Better use scanner in exam cz, as our teacher said while evaluating the paper the people who correct it are said only to accept scanner not buffer cz it was used most of time during exams and now they will accept scanner only
