Arrests made in connection to women saying they were punched in the face in New York City

At least three men have been arrested in connection to a disturbing trend that came to light as women shared stories on social media of allegedly being randomly punched while walking on New York City streets. NBC News’ Priscilla Thompson reports.

There are "One Punch" laws in Australia. “A person who unlawfully strikes another person to the head or neck and causes the death of the other person is guilty of a crime”. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment. The law is specifically designed to address situations where a single punch leads to a fatality or significant harm.

This probably is not a new trend; it's just getting increased media attention because people are noticing the TikTok videos. A woman I work with was punched in the head by a homeless man more than a year ago while she walked down the sidewalk in downtown Portland, Oregon. I assume this happens every single day in every major city in the country.
