Yeah, it's one of the few Studio Ghibli films with a bittersweet ending. It made me want to tear up too. Parting is such sweet sorrow.

Thinking about it, Ghibli has quite a lot of not so happy endings. Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky and Only Yesterday are objectively happy endings that still manage to feel melancholic. Nausicaa and Marnie are """"""""""""happy"""""""""""""" endings and Mononoke-hime is bittersweet at best... that is until you realize that it's still the Warring States period and Irontown is doomed without iron or learn that the japanese wolf was driven to extinction irl anyway. Meanwhile The Wind Rises has a straight up tragic ending, that is not as devastating as it could be because Miyazaki put the italian engineer there to lighten up the mood. And then there's Takahata... Kaguya-hime, PomPoko, Grave of the Fireflies... yeah enough said

Like, this song gives me serious goose bumps. It makes me cry at some point. Have you ever have this feeling like, when you're watching Anime films. You feel like you are separated to the world or something?

yeah that's why I think the old anime is better cause it has a way of making u feel like you are in a different world especially when studio gibli and hiyo Miyazaki do a movie together my personal favored one is castle in the sky the story characters and art and most of all the soundtrack was amazing.

+Odezsa Midlane Yeah i understand how you feel. Animes just have that effect on me as well and i love it. It really helps me to forget about my problems and life in general. I just feel completely immersed when i watch a good anime. Studio Ghibli films are really good at doing that haha.

This kind of song just makes you feel like an adventurer climbing such great heights or running through the trees. Joe Hisaishi always does amazing music for Ghibli movies. They capture the complete mood of the movie, and is just...epic. No other word can describe how good his music is.

I agree so much about the "adventurer" part ^^ This track is awesome, and it made us feel powerful things with our imagination too! Although I believe this track was made by Cecile Corbel and not Joe Hisaishi for once. And I've read that this was the first time a foreigner did the OST for a Japanese animation movie ^^

cannibal babies I know the ending was kind of sad. But it didn't bother Shaun because he understood that Arrietty and her parents had to leave. He knew that if they stayed, they only would be been ensnared, been held prisoners, or be killed. What really mattered to Shaun was to make sure they would succeed in getting away. What also mattered was that he learned from Arrietty to be strong and to not give up on his own life. Shaun didn't feel sad after Arrietty left. He went on with his life after his operation.

Yes, it's the beauty of their art. I just went 20 yesterday, in the same time I watched Arrietty. As always, the movie left me with tears in my eyes. Feelings, they are trying to show, are so real it hurts. It hurts not to see those feelings in our "real" world. I just wish, everyone would be like Sho and Arrietty. But I don't want, ever again, to fall apart with someone I love. :)

Where can I find this song? I found the OST by Cecile Corbel, but the track on there called "Arietty's Song" is much slower and has lyrics. It's certainly pretty, but I'm interested in this orchestral piece. EDIT: Found it - this isn't from the soundtrack, it's a cover by "Thaory Pan demic" from their album "loves Ghibli Orchestra."

I used to watch this movie all the time as a kid but the older I got the less I remembered it. My friend brought it up the other day and listening to this now brings back so many memories I didn't even know I had anymore. I'm so upset that I forgot about this movie for so long. I'm gonna re-watch it the next chance I get. :)

"So just tell me what's on your mind, and we'll work from there." "I remember something... something, that was important, but it feels like a faded memory, it's a song, locked deep inside my heart, in a place I can't reach... but yesterday, I heard something, I heard it for only a second, but then I remembered, that song, was Arrietty's." This is something that appeared in my mind one day, I don't know why I suddenly thought of it, since that day I didn't do anything related to The Secret World of Arrietty, or The Borrowers, but this was something Shawn/Sho would have said at the end of the movie, that he had forgotten something because of an accident and was talking to a therapist or a psychologist, but then heard her singing one day, for only a second, and remembered their friendship. Thank you for the song.

I love this theme, I love the movie, I don't know why, but Arrietty always hits me when I watch it. The story's not even particularly interesting, but there's always been something so innocent and beautiful about the entire film, so much so that it just gives off such a unique feeling that I don't get with most movies. Of course there's a few other Ghiblis that get there.

I completely forgot about how much this movie was part of my childhood. This is the first time I've listened to this song since I last watched the movie probably around 6 or 7 years ago. It almost made me cry.

This is my favorite movie ever Arrietty’s family has always reminded me of mine I relate to Arrietty in many ways. It's funny because I remember the first time I watched this movie my heart skipped a beat at the name of the mother "Amelie" which is my name and when i was 6 it was my first time hearing my name in a movie! I will forever remember this movie and the memories I received from it. The creator's of this movie really poured their heart and soul into this film I hope we get more movies that are similar to studio Ghiblis

I think most of Ghibli movies are perfect in both the theme and music composing. They put alot of effort in making animation and every Ghibli's movie is a masterpiece that we all love. I give my greatest thank to Ghibli studio for making my childhood a wonderful experience.

Hayao Miyazaki was the artist, director and writer of most of his masterpieces. His heart and imagination can be seen in his work, and through these movies it has captured all our heart and emotions, it has provided the world with the art of magic.
