The ending is so good. The score was perfect. Denis Villeneuve is my absolute favorite director. He always gets such good people for the score.

The ending is very swelling and almost feels separated from the movie in a way

i think it’s better to have something and to have lost it rather than never having had anything at all, so she had her daughter anyway

That’s very true, it’s just how can you live through that pain and not only that how can you truly cherish the moments with someone if you know they’re future

She was seeing her future memories so she had no say in having the daughter or not. They have not happened yet but those were her memories so she must have the daughter or else she would have seen something else.

She's already met her future daughter. She's already loved her future daughter. How could she NOT go forward... even knowing the outcome? GREAT reaction to a truly brilliant film. One of my all-time faves. Since you loved this one, you should check out the following incredible films: "CHILDREN OF MEN" (dystopian film of the near future that will blow you away), "GRAVITY" (another great space film by the same director as "CHILDREN OF MEN"... this one starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney in an action-packed, realistic look at this incredible tale of survival), "PLEASANTVILLE" (beautifully done society allegory that starts off a comedy and blooms into an amazing critique of racism and change), "STRANGER THAN FICTION" (One of the most underrated films I've ever seen... absolutely wonderful and little talked about with a stellar cast). Cheers!

One interpretation is that the future has "already happened", time doesn't flow in one direction. Lousie "will have" her daughter, it's unavoidable. Even _if_ what we perceive as the future could be changed, doing so would basically mean that Louise would erase her daughter from reality. Remember, to Lousie the future has already happened, so she's got 12 years of memories with her daughter. This one took me by surprise, as I went into it blind. It's one of very few films that I've immediately rewatched, it became an instant favourite of mine. Amy Adams in particular was phenomenal in this! And yeah, colonel Weber wasn't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed... Thanks for the reaction!

That’s a really good look at it! Like I said this is definitely one of my favorite Amy Adam projects, I believe this is the first time I’ve seen her center focus if I’m gonna be honest. It was definitely a very beautiful movie with its theme of communication and how it can either solve problems or cause problems. It’s definitely gonna be something I watch other people’s reviews of

"Why do you perceive that future, if you know the outcome?" A mother's love. She wouldn't miss a moment. And why named "Hannah?" Same forward as backward. Like time.

I was understanding her reasoning and whatnot it was just more of me bargaining with myself about the whole situation. Losing a child is my biggest fear that’s why some of my favorite stories discuss that. Of course she would want to spend all her time with her daughter knowing the outcome it’s just for me personally I couldn’t bear that pain and knowledge

This movie's answer to free will vs determinism is the latter. Louise already had her kid - she's living her life out of order. Non-linear. That said, we all die. If you have a kid they will eventually die. Our time together, no matter what order people die in, is finite. Louise embraces the journey because in the end that's all any of us ever have.

Here's how I see it.... We're all like Louise. We actually do know what's going to happen in the future, in the sense that we all know we're going to die. All of us. Including our children. And yet we still choose to have them. She chose to have her child, despite the actual fact that she knew her daughter would die. To me, this is not sad, this is just a part of life. Despite the fact that we all know we're going to die, we still keep doing what we choose to do...doing what we can to bring love and life into the world, in our own ways. And after a few generations, we'll be gone.

Definitely not related to The Day the Earth Stood Still 😂. Whoever told you that was mixed up. It is based on a short novel, though.
