0:53 - John Williams really knows how to build up to truly grand reveals, especially if the director knew what they were doing at the time. The orchestration and melody just match so perfectly here! Brilliant use of _Home Alone 2_ at the end, too.

Always love that scene, and more that trumpets and strings motifs at 1:06, I think it's made to expose a idea of what kind of history Hogwarts had ! And since I was kid and non-musician I felt a lot this ! PS: LOVE U

dbreezyg the ending is Home Alone and the second part I am guessing is Raiders of the Lost Ark. He probably put it in there to show how John Williams reuses material and creates his style

Words cannot describe how much I’d love to see an analysis of “Love Pledge and The Arena” from Attack of the Clones. Besides “Across the Stars,” that’s my favorite track from Episode II.

williams is absolutely ridiculous the level of using motifs and foreshadoing and referencing is overwhelming

it's brilliant.. it's all about the tempo and style: slow and grand. it's a showpiece cue...great visuals and zero important dialogue. i love how JW starts the cue . a normal train has a whistle, but a MAGIC train has echoing chimes. He nailed it with the choir, everything is so respelndent and grand. His music wraps itself around every inch of the frame, while the sounds fill up every inch of your brain.

1:07 the defining moment of the entire Harry Potter story, when Harry and his new friends first lay their very own eyes on Hogwarts. This is the greatest moment in the entire story IMO, and it's all thanks to William's genius. In the subsequent films there are many panning shots of Hogwarts in all weathers, very grandiose and doubtless cost millions to make, but it's always just to set a mood; we're used to Hogwarts by then, as are the characters. But here Hogwarts itself _is_ the mood. I have to also give Colombus great credit for that second look at the castle a few seconds later; hell I wouldn't have minded a third look, even closer, as the castle is looming up on you. Make the scene longer, and to hell with the suits who doubtless moaned about "indulging" and pressuring the Director to "move on already". You just know they tried to!

Hey Brad, beautiful work! My name is Joshua. I've been subscribed to you for a while and love your score reduction and analysis videos. I'm about to be a sophomore at Washington State University and am pursuing film scoring. I love that there is a KZbin community dedicated to studying scores and sharing what they find. I'm hoping to join and contribute to that community, not just for my own growth as a musician and composer, but for others that want to learn from the greats. I recently bought some video editing software as well as Dorico (first notation software! yay) to write and also make score reductions. Is there any chance you have scores you'd be willing to share with me? It's okay if not. Just know, your channel has deeply inspired me. Wishing you the best!
