Does the Csus4 function as V, and does the Neapolitan function as IV?

It's one of my favourite pieces John Williams has ever written. It captures so much of the personality and identity of the character, it's just wonderful.

Those half step trill chords on strings sound actually supernatural. Like it's not a sound created by humans.

The rest of the cue makes so much more sense with the passage at 1:09, missing from the OST Now those runs leading into it and the trombone call-back part afterward make musical sense

Absolute genius. John Williams is a legend. I loved his music since I was 6, knowing only Jurrasic Park and E.T. back then but everytime I found out HE is a composer of a movie I've just discovered, my heart melted and my love for him and his music grew stronger... Thank you for every note, Maestro Williams.

People are mentioning Bartok at the beginning, but, melodically, I’m hearing the bridge section of Jabba the Hutt’s theme (which, I know, came a couple of years after ET). Wonder if Williams intentionally borrowed from himself when writing Jabba’s theme.

He clearly reused a lot of the ideas from this for the very similarly animated opening credits scene in the 2011 Tintin movie. You could almost drop the two pieces in for each other.

I remember when I read the book, one of the first chapters on the island sees them showing data of the dinosaurs to Malcom and others, and their sizes were normally distributed (or at least, were Bell curved). And I felt so pleased when I said to myself “if they’re clones, then shouldn’t they be identical” and I turned the page and Malcom said the same thing

4:27, 4:28 I just adore the rapid scales from the Woodwind family, which adds more excitement to the piece combined with the main melody from the trumpets. That is some counterpoint techniques John William put into to really bring the story to life

Honestly, as much as I love John Williams's score, I think Star Wars without music would slap. It's interesting because you can actually tease out the cutaways that the mind can only digest with music, and you can start to see in your mind's eye pretty quickly that in order to make a truly compelling version of music-less Star Wars, you would have to frame some shots differently, and cut others in different orders or to different time signatures to maximize the gravitas. It helps me realize how much we actually rely on music to take us through a scene that wouldn't or couldn't play the way it does without said music.

The best and worst of it is that I can’t read any of your notes with how quick this song is so I can’t dissect how great it is.
