I was stationed there as a Marine MP in 1983. Four years in the Marine Corps and Iwakuni was my absolute favorite duty station.

Stationed there 1980-81. H&MS-12. No tours back then. Just short classes on how to behave and get a drivers license. Always show kindness and respect for the Japanese community and the people of Iwakuni. Beautiful seaside city with really great people. Miss it to this day.

I was stationed there from 1976 - 79 with MAG-12 and H&HS. We only had a few classes about behaving and respecting the Japanese people and their customs. I am glad that today's men and women in our military have so many good programs to help them enjoy their tour in Iwakuni. There is so much to see while in Japan. Even though Iwakuni is in a great location, there is more to see in Japan than just Iwakuni-Miyajima-Hiroshima. Since a single unaccompanied tour is 2 years, use up some of that annual leave and travel. Many at Iwakuni didn't travel much and ended up drinking a lot and not experiencing the beauty of Japan.

Any suggestions bringing kids? Bring car seats? Are US car seats allowed in Japan? Best mode of transportation with kids?
