I'm arriving on Copa airlines in the morning and have checked bags. I will need to re-check my bags on another flight with United leaving the same morning. Do you know if I will have to clear customs before re-checking my bags? thanks!

Sure, why not. I always leave the airport on long layovers

Not unless you're changing airlines. Every time I flew through Panama, you're always in the same terminal on the layover.

That's plenty of time, you'll have to time to grab something to eat from the Food Court upstairs as well.
