Whats up everyone! I decided to pin this comment to answer some frequently asked Questions. You can just buy the updated main spiral input gear and install this in (in the classic way) into your V4. (Be sure to use red locktite on the grub screw) You can fit the V4 outdrive cup over the new input gear and your good to go. Its your option if you want to pick up the V5 outdrive cup to pair with then upgraded Spiral input gear (note, it (the outdrive cup) was also built with upgraded engineering over the classic V4 outdrive cups. Now.. it is also optional if you want to incorporate the SafeD plastic sleeve over the V5 outdrive (if you choose to also pick that up). Lastly... you do not need to change anything regarding your differentials, they are 100% computable with the new (v5) main spiral input gear. ~East Tactics

I’ve been really happy with running 20 K differential fluid in the rear. (80k front) As far as picking up the hardened steel input gears. That’s definitely going to help. I would also make 100% sure that your mesh is set correctly between the spiral input gear and the internal differential gear. Every vehicle is actually a little bit different. And they do not come from the factory with the ideal mesh (most the time). The rule of thumb for perfect mash is the tighter the gears are together the less likely are going to strip them. However it does need to be a hairs breath of gap reminiscent of a very small tick like feel when jiggling it. There is a shim you can pick up that I will link at the bottom of this message that’s good to have on hand as it’s also a good shim for cleaning up slop on your four CV shafts. (Vid linked below for that) Lastly as far as internal DIFf lube/grease this is the stuff that I use, it’s not too expensive and it will last you forever. Fetching links now… Two thickness (shims) amzn.to/3zEB8E0 amzn.to/3vIle8o Slop video kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXWUYaFpr8t0rs0 Lube amzn.to/3qb2Rb4 Or amzn.to/2SFncJt The marine stuff is a little bit more water resistant. But both are great lubes

Ive seriously considered picking up a new RC...its funny how im only a one man show. Course i do feel like the teachings/ideas I share on the V4 Kraton span over alot of different RC’s (especially in the Arrma ecosystem). That all said, instead of picking a new rig, I decided to instead pickup the NEW DJI FPV drone. both to experience the hobby of FPV flying, but to also complement my focus on the rig I have... better aerial footage, and exciting new bash vids. Also i plan to share a lot of content regarding the drone itself. Still waiting for my package to arrive. Hopefully I dont crash the drone on day 1... lol😬

@@EastTactics I agree I think alot of your tactics can be applied to other rc cars the main concern I have for the big rock is the fans since it is only a 100amp ESC the fan is 25mm I haven't seen anyone put a 35 or 40 mm on it
@EastTactics
@EastTactics 3 жыл бұрын
Sounds to me like you’ll definitely want to run your upgraded fans then from an external 3s battery. I recommend an 840mah 3s battery, since they are smaller. The real challenge is trying to find a way to fit/mount the larger fans to your system. I take it you haven’t been able to find an ESC mount that can lock onto a smaller 25mm ESC and convert to a larger attachment point for say 35 or 40mm fan? Not sure if one exists.
Are you having trouble keeping your big rock cool?

Colors means a lot, especially in context to the newly manufactured EXB parts which are made with these updated features. Either way, there was an update in both the design and the manufacturing, that much is clear. When buying one (if the need arises for you) wouldn't you rather have the one newly of the line? Even if it's skeptical chance you have of it being made better? Appreciate you watching and commenting.

@EastTactics
@EastTactics 3 жыл бұрын
That is correct, However when they released The V5 all everybody was told was that it’s running with identical differentials as the V4. So most weren’t looking at the components inside to v5 to be potential upgrades for the V4. Those looking at the EXB as potential upgrades for the V4 learned that in order to run those EXB differentials an entire differential needed to be purchased as well as unique spiral input gears. Hense the video here. 😝👍 The v5 has a hidden gem.

That is correct. You could run it in your V5. However I don’t think you would be able to install the safeD Plastic sheath, you might just have to do it the old-fashioned way and use a little bit of red Loctite on the Grub screw until you get your V5 versions in stock which have the groove for the safeD Components.

Tooth pitch of new hardened steel is different, therefore you deffo need complete housing to prevent gear mashing/stripping. Just a heads up! Or is it a case of both pitches fit very well as is? But normally I'd say my first evaluation would be correct. Nice find all the same
@EastTactics
@EastTactics 3 жыл бұрын
Thx Richard, you bring up an interesting point. So The tooth pitch is only different for the EXB, and that’s to accommodate for the new wider/deeper teeth as well as the angle. However, Both the V4 and the V5 use the same cups, ring gear etc. V4/V5 show the exact same differential ring gear as their “standard part”. Part AR310497. This is evidence that Arrma designed both pitches the same... or improved it with the new input v5 gear to mesh with part AR310497 perhaps even better.

It says on modelsports it uses the safe D keyed system is that the only difference or is the metal different maybe so you can use the plastic lock covers like the v5/exb
@EastTactics
@EastTactics 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the Safe D components can be incorporated into the V4 if you would like. however, you can also simply just use red locktite and install the new v5 input gear into the V4 using the classic method. It does look like the reason why attention was brought to this piece (or the reason it was redesigned was to take advantage of the Safe D feature) however, the description of the new part specifically says hard wearing steel, and upon close inspection has the same look and makeup as the EXB ring gears, and input gears. the latest metal off Arrma's Extreme bash line up.

For the V4 Classic installation for the input gear (Naturally when not considering any of the v5 safeD stuff, Is to always use red Loctite when securing these tiny grub screws. While yes this does mean it usually is a pain to remove the grub screw because you need to incorporate heat (I have a lighter size butane torch that I like). But yes blue Loctite is not going to do the trick. Definitely use the red. Even if you pick up the V5 input gear and install it (again, when not incorporating the safety cup/sleeve) you’ll want to use red Loctite. Red Should also be used on your pinion gear for your motor pinion again heat being the means of the removal.

I’m not 100% sure because I haven’t been hands-on with the safety cup/sleeve. But from what I understand you don’t need red Loctite when you’re incorporating those components, I guess the whole point of why the upgrade came about in the first place with those safeD parts was to make it so the hassle of needing red Loctite unnecessary. Because yeah if you put heat to the plastic it will melt it. Are you running the V4?, When you upgraded the main input gear to the V5 how much did you pick up the safeD stuff too?

@EastTactics
@EastTactics 3 жыл бұрын
you want there to be zero play anywhere in the system (and what I mean by system is regarding your main spiral input gear and your outdrive cup) you want that out drive cup to be pushed in and seated all the way back as far as it can go before you tighten that grub screw. Now... That all said, if you want to impact your mesh regarding your differentials ring gear and your spiral input gear then typically (especially if you’re having problems) Your mesh is likely not tight enough. So in order to increase the tightness of both the spiral input gear and your ring gear you’ll actually need to add a shim just behind the spiral input gear. This will Push the input gear slightly closer. If your mesh was too close like you were thinking, then after seating the differential into the housing if you were to take your finger and spin the ring gear it would make a sort of high pitch clicking noise. Is that the case? Maybe when you’re about to install it, before you button everything up you could send me a short video clip of the sound of the mesh.

and what about the nut? for the new input gear with hardened steel you must have the V5 nut and it's maybe the same than the EXB nut? ( because you have two flat sides)
@EastTactics
@EastTactics 3 жыл бұрын
Great question. I assume you’re referring to the Grub screw That’s inserted to hold the outdrive in place. That Grub screw will be included with your outdrive your using. With the V4 it will be installed in the classic manner by applying red loctite and inserting it through the outdrive onto the flat face. Both new and old input gears have this elongated flat face for that nut/grub screw The other flat side that you were referring to on the new hardened input gear is a face that is been grooved into it to incorporate the new safeD feature that you’ll see in the V5 and EXB. While the safeD components are obviously available and even recommended to incorporate, technically you can install the input gear into the V4 (or any set up for that matter) in the classic way V4 owners have been used to, ignoring the safeD feature. Technically tho, if you’ve got the improved input gear, you might as well take advantage of the feature. Does that answer your question?

Both the V4 and the V5 use the same cups,internals, ring gear etc. V4/V5 show the exact same differential ring gear as their “standard part” on Arrma’s website. Part AR310497. I’m actually not sure why they didn’t upgrade the ring gear as well. Perhaps they will in the future. Or perhaps they really just wanted to incorporate that safeD feature, which is why the input gear is the only thing that got attention. Either way we might as well grab a their Newest designed one moving forward. 😎💪👍

Ara311054 She’s the one you want. Looks like on Arrmas website the standard part is showing this already for both the V1 and the V2. However there is a chance, that you’re already rocking that input gear.

@EastTactics
@EastTactics 3 жыл бұрын
Nope, V4 owners only need to pick up the V5 spiral input gear. Because it matches correctly with the V4 differentials Crown gear/spur gear. It has the same pitch/mod. The V5 uses the V4 differentials. Thing is… Arrma improved the input gear, and simply didn’t tell anybody, They just sort of tossed into the standard parts for the V5. But that gear is a V4 killer upgrade! Thanks for watching!
@josephcaruana9165
@josephcaruana9165 3 жыл бұрын
It should be the case hardening that they use because if they use a very hard steel it will break the teeth of the pinion, something else in my experience it is better to change the crown wheel and the pinion as a set to wear out evenly otherwise it could break if the mesh is not matched.
@EastTactics
@EastTactics 3 жыл бұрын
You make a good point, The weakest gear is likely going to be the one that takes on the wear. However matching a strong or higher quality gear to a lesser quality gear it doesn’t make the whole system any weaker. In other words it doesn’t necessarily make the weaker gear weaker than it’s given state. Technically it is possible to say that the whole system does not get improved when installing this hardened steel input gear as the chances of stripping are still the same for the lesser quality ring gear. However the nice thing about this hardened steel pinion gear is that of the two components that strip (if one does at least it won’t be the input gear which is more of a pain in the butt to get out. I would also agree with you, that in an ideal world when replacing one, you replace the other so that the measures are back to perfect. However if the harden steel input gear is untarnished and you end up stripping the ring gear only..All you should need to replace is the ring gear and the mesh should be back to perfect again. Hopefully… Arrma, Who obviously seen the need to improve the quality of the input gear eventually releases a V5 spur gear made of the same material. Hopefully sooner than later.
@EastTactics
@EastTactics 3 жыл бұрын
Also… I just realized in regards to your comment about it should be the same hardening between the two. If you look at the V5 it comes stock with this hardened input gear, yet it’s paired to the V4 non hardened ring gear. So arrma themselves Do not see an issue with matching hard steel to non-hard steel. Hopefully in the near future, since obviously they seen fit to upgrade the input gear, they also released an upgraded ring gear for the V5. Which would intern be an upgrade for the V4.
@josephcaruana9165
@josephcaruana9165 3 жыл бұрын
@@EastTactics I am not concerned about the quality of the ring gear because it has much more teeth so it is going to wear much less although still it needs a good case hardening but if you change one of them and not a new pair or matched set you need to run in a bit cautious and not full throttle straight away to give them a chance to bed and have a better surface contact otherwise it could be making some extra pressure on smaller surface and it could shear the teeth or it does not last long. Something else that we are not mentioning is the type of grease that we should use to lubricate the surfaces and I would like others to give their comments from their experience, in my diffs I am trying out graphite based grease that is used in cv joints and has some molybdenum disulfide in it for less friction, up to now it seems that it is doing its job.

This time of year I don’t bash is frequently because of the cold weather. So I picked up two of them with the idea that they will replace my current version 4 spiral gears as needed. So no... haven’t tossed them in yet. However I know without a shadow of a doubt they are 100% compatible. Not only have I conversed with many people who have already installed them, I also have emails directly from Arrma, Where they have confirmed not only are they 100% compatible but they are also an upgrade machined part. However you might be interested to know that Arrma also confirmed that the drive cup that slides over and the V5 main input gear was also upgraded, naturally as part of the safeD Sleeve functionality. While that part at least in my experience Has never even remotely been An issue, it’s still nice to know that it’s “buddy part” also received the same treatment. However knowing that, I did 100% confirm that the V4 Metal drive cup is still a match over the V5 spiral input gear. Arrma support confirmed, but still stated that they actually recommend if you do upgrade to the V5 input gear, they recommend also upgrading to the V5 outdrive cup. It’s your call if you want to do that, and if you do heck… Might as well pick up the safeD stuff too.

Yeah I’m not 100% sure why they modified the diff bulge on the V5. Might require you to do some modifications or handiwork with a Dremel to get third-party skid plates on it I’m sure it’s still doable. I guess Arrma had a reason why they added the space/extra bulge. Either way though even if They didn’t modify the diff bulge, The differentials between the V4, V5, and EXB are all interchangeable with each other. Granted in order to run the EXB diffs In the V4/V5 you have to convert the entire differential including the input gears over. But yeah you can certainly put EXB differentials in the V5 or the V4.
