Hobbywing makes a beautiful heatsink that wraps all the way around your 40mm can. You have to remove the motor to install it and do a little bending but once it's on it really does the trick.. the fan that comes with it isn't so hot but the heat sink is awesome

I have those exact AVC Aliexpress fans. I found them to be pretty powerful. As you mentioned, they pull 1amp of power. I performed some tests and ran them on 4S. If you think they push air on 3S, try 4S, they really blow. I know the recommended range for the voltage is, nominal 12v, max 13.8v. But after watching RC guy garage, setting up his fans on 4S, I decided to try it as well. So far, so good. I also bought some 50mm high-speed server fans from Ali, they pull 1.65 amps. The 50mm really levitates off the ground on 3, and 4S. In my quest to experiment, I also purchased a push/pull combo 40mm high-speed fan. that one pulls 2 amps if I remember correctly. That can push 36 CFM of air. 36 watts. the fan is basically a dual-fan setup. My next experiment is a 60mm high-speed fan. that pushes 2.2A at 12v. or, Air volume: 87.87 CFM. Do you have the links for the screws you showed in your video? And for the washers for the screws, you showed as well? Just FYI aliexpress has the exact yeah racing heatsink for aroundd$12 buck, free shipping. www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001812369226.html?spm=a2g0o.cart.0.0.51923c00CcsBFn&mp=1 For anyone interested in the fans. 60mm fan: www.aliexpress.com/item/4000092631471.html?spm=a2g0o.cart.0.0.51923c00CcsBFn&mp=1 50mm fans: www.aliexpress.com/item/1501415431.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.29004c4dReh6j8 40mm fans: www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001669207520.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.29004c4dReh6j8 40mm push/pull fan: www.aliexpress.com/item/32263024662.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dpmYjqp

Awesome!, Thanks for the comment, and thanks for all the great information! Yes if you check the description of my video you’ll see I have a link called “high powered fan DIY”. In it you’ll find the screw kit. I must say I’m pretty impressed with the different power fans you’ve been experimenting with. I myself have experimented less with the different powers and more with the ways to make them more durable and extreme bash resistant with the shock mitigation tactics. Actually my biggest frustration is trying to find a heat sink with a solid 360° mount option as well as corresponding holes for the 40 mm X 40 mm fans. Do you know if one exists?
@lexsteel12
@lexsteel12 3 жыл бұрын
@@EastTactics I had similar issues trying to find a decent heatsink for the fans. But, I did find a few options. This one is not a 360 heatsink, but it does clip on pretty good to the motor. And you can mount a 40mm fan on it. Of course, it will depend on the size of the motor you have. mines are TP-4072 and a hobbystar 4092. And a few arrma blx stock motors. They seem to fit well on them. I also found a heatsink sold by Hot racing, that one fits nicely on my motors as well. And it accommodates the fans well. Both of the heatsinks I mentioned can accommodate the 40mm fans. My challenge has been in finding a heatsink that can accommodate the 50mm fan. I did find that this hot racing heatsink comes with another mount to be able to mount a 50mm fan. It comes with one already. Here are the links: Genetic Heatsink: 40-42mm Aluminum Motor Heat Sink-www.aliexpress.com/item/4001241939525.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4d1Etc3f Hot racing heatsink: www.ebay.com/itm/Arrma-Kraton-Outcast-Talion-Typhon-Monster-Blower-Motor-Cooling-Fan-AON505F06/292849170259?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Again… Thanks for the information really appreciate it. Yeah, I’m just not happy with clip on heat sinks. When it comes to hard bashing it just needs to really go all the way around for that security. I’m running the stock 2050 Kv motor. I do think that the same amount that I picked up to connect my 40 mm fan to my ESC could also work to attach a 40 mm fan to the heat sink that I showcased in my video. However the website that sells them now wants to charge over $25 just to ship to the USA. Which is just too much.
@lexsteel12
@lexsteel12 3 жыл бұрын
@@EastTactics $25 for shipping? That's crazy. The store I bought it from, if I remember, was free shipping. When it comes to Aliexpress, and other sites, I always shop around. I never buy in the first store I visit. I also check on banggood.com, ebay and Amazon. Like you said, when it comes to hard core bashing I would prefer a wrapp around heatsink, but as you already know, they seem to be hard to find, at least for our scale of RC and motors. There is an alternative that I forgot about. Its a hobbywing heatsink that I bought some time ago. It is for 40mm motors, and it wraps around the motor. I don't remember exactly where I bought it from, but I think it was Amazon. I believe it was somewhere between $10 and $15 at the time. Check for 1/8 scale heatsinks. I should mention, that game changer RC also sells blue heatsinks for 40 to 56mm motors, that from the pictures I saw on his ebay store, wrap around. At lest one of the models he had. You can inquire with him to get more details. Hope the info helps.

@@lexsteel12 thx! I’ll look into that. 👍 Ya I emailed the site that was charging that insane shipping (unfortunately there the only ones who sell this mount adapter, that I’ve seen at least) and he informed me that he is working on fixing that. Says he will be going in to add economy shipping. Should be fixed next week.

Have you ever tested the fans cooling capabilities by having them blow directly onto a small electric weighing scale ? So you can measure by how many grams it showing on the scales. I am only saying that’s it’s hard to judge how much air they are really pushing by simply listening to the sound of the fans working.
@EastTactics
@EastTactics 3 жыл бұрын
I can’t say I’ve ever done that exact test, what I can say though is if you compare say the stock ESC fan to one of these 1amp 40mm fans. The difference in blowing power is unmistakable. Now as far as comparing the fans in this video, as they are closer to the same caliber. There is a very noticeable blowing power difference between the AliExpress one amp 40 mm fan and the eBay fan. I know it’s hard to feel the difference when you’re just watching it on a video. But yeah… I can tell you there’s definitely a difference in blowing power.

To me if a normal good fan can’t keep it cool then you are trying to solve the heat problem the wrong way, big fans with all the luggage is not ideal in my opinion I would rather change gearing or upgrade the esc motor combo if more performance is required nothing against fans i fit them as well if the circumstances call for it 🏁
@EastTactics
@EastTactics Жыл бұрын
Honestly, your comment is right on point. I did spend a lot of time in my early dive into the hobby providing solutions for cooling, like you put it, trying to cool stock components. It has become a realization of mine ever since I did upgrade my ESC and my motor that, they are staying much cooler without the need of such over the top fans. However, as soon as I started pushing the new motor/ESC combo it did start heating up. Which really just goes to show that no matter what motor/ESC combo you have we kinda wanted to push them pass their limits. So I’m grateful for the overkill fans. However, in a light build your methodology is on point. 100%

I found another AVC fan with lower energy draw and higher CFM that i bought for my build out when done, I am currently using a quieter fan that does 12 CFM @36db (so does not sound like a freaking jet) for .16A load.. much more efficient. IF I decide to go with a larger fan and more noise - this is a more efficient and better CFM rating than the one you posted. Also I used the powerhobby mount and created a cowl to convert the 2x30mm fan bolt downs to a 40mm setup. DB04028B12U is the fan with 23 CFM @ 0.66amps.

Ai recently fitted the Ali express fan with the Alzeer racing basher mount. Used it x2, think it stopped working but I hadn’t noticed as I was only doing short runs for a jump. I noticed when I swapped the batteries out that the fan wasn’t working. Got my EXB home and although I thought a stone had somehow got in I found that the arse end had dropped out and snapped the blades The only fan that I think ( but I can’t find anywhere) is the full ally version that Gamechanger RC build there’s with. I do have a second fan from Ali express that I’m going to fit , just incase I’d damaged it somewhere while fitting so hopefully that will work Stupid thing is I was on grass and I don’t think I got any higher than +/- 20ft Good advice on your video though dude , I’ve had some good tips from watching 👍👍👍

Theres product you can buy made by a company called Geko and its a pad you put on your dashboard of your car and it holds your phone in place. Its about 3-4mm thick but is slightly softer than the stuff you fitted buy way cheaper maybe half price. only problem is its kind of in a kidney shape but its around double the size for the 2/3 the price. im going to try mine out with the stuff you recommended (mine didn't have the bottom drop out, that was a mistake) it actually broke at the point where bottom is fixed and the point the blade spin on. I think mine broke during a jump and the fan shifted inside and the tip of a blade caught the (supposedly carbon plate id bought, which was actually plastic painted like carbon but that broke too) covered that's maybe what broke the fan. Anyway theres no way to know for sure, but it did tear the mesh on top too. Ive made a 4mm extended carbon top plate so the fan can jump up n down a little now too then put cover and mesh on top along with your suggestion for shock. absorption. Ive also collected half a dozen different brand fans to compare build quality but all have 1 common denominator and that is that they all have large fan blades that are fixed over a large area. Although theres no skate parks near me just a pump track the jumps tend to be straight up and not long so impact is increased as you've no forward run off to help with impact. I Know this is a long reply so ill leave it there but ill fill you in with what happens. Keep on making awesome vids dude!!!!!!

You could always snip it and convert it to a Jst connector. However my guess is you probably could use the red one and just push it onto the right prongs. So what I mean by the right prongs. On your ESC you have your connector or your prongs sticking up. I believe they’re in the same location on the BLX185 as they are on the spectrum. That being said the inner prong closest to the center of the vehicle is where black would go. The middle prong is where the red would go, The outer (closest to you) is not used. Your fan only consists of a red and black wire. Hope that answers your question.

The quick answer is no. The fans will not ever have a direct impact on speed. No matter How you power them up. Now in my case, because I run my fans on an external 3s (small 850mah ) battery, my fans don’t even draw from the main battery, which basically just means slightly longer run time. 😎👍

How to protect lipo to undercharge? with these ultra fans
@EastTactics
@EastTactics 3 ай бұрын
Great question. one 3s battery will last the duration of a single run. So... I alway just make sure I have a few on me and replace the 3s battery with a new one at the same time i replace the battery in the rig. If by chance you accidently push one of the 3s batterys below the rate which your charger recognizes. You can alway change your Charger settings over to NImh mode and set it to charge for about 10 minuts.... after this... it will be recognized by your charger again. Even better tho... is to bypass the need to run these fans from an external 3s pack and simply run them from your ESC... if your ESC has a decent outcharge rate. Mostly only ideal if you have 8.4volts output from your ESC. lastly, it is possible to run these fans from the RC main battery, by connecting the fan/s to your main battery balance terminal. I really should make a video on this tho, believe it or not you can create an adapter that comes off the fan/s that ends in a female JST XH) and modifying the end of the Femail JST XH by cliping off one side of it so if will slide into only half of the 6s battery. it would then run the fans on 3s power from the 6s battery. In thoery... agian I need to make a vid on this and also confirm that running like this wont thro off the balance of your 6s pack.. nothing a balance charge couldnt remedy tho. Stay tuned.

Basically just whatever you do with your main battery do alongside your 3s fan battery. Meaning anytime you put your main battery back into storage mode. Put your fan battery back into storage mode as well. Depending on how many 6S batteries you burn through in a normal session. Most people only rip for 30 minutes. Which is one 6S battery. My 850 mA 3S battery has plenty of juice to run through one30 minute session, maybe even two before it gets to voltage levels below 3.5. You don’t want your cells ever going below 3.5 or 3.4 Volts per cell. But if you generally Keep her going through two entire batteries or more. Then you might want to have two 3S batteries in your possession. I bring one of these with me at all times. So I can check the voltage on the fly. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qanIknSqepiIgtE

People run those fans (or similar fans) to 3S batteries all the time. You should actually be fine it seems like you’re just barely over powering it. Worst case scenario they may not have as long of a life as you would expect them to have. But it’s doubtful that it would create a, immediate issue.

@@EastTactics …. Ok I see that now,, I thought for a second ppl might do a dual rate setup so the fan works harder as the throttle/motor rpm go up. I found the P175 before this video so I’m glad you made this vid to confirm my research💪.. have you run it off a receiver channel on 7.5 BEC? Will it be sufficient and also not be too much load on the receiver?
@EastTactics
@EastTactics 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve have run them off of my receiver before, and in my V4 I am rocking the BEC which pumps my voltage from 6 V to 7.4, I’ve done this as a back up to just in case something happens to my 3S battery. I created a quick adapter that just converts both my fans (two of them) directly into my ESC. Whether you run one or two fans directly into your ESC or directly into your receiver both are capable of running these fans at the voltage your vehicle is set up at. Sounds like in your case 7.5 V. As you know these fans are rated at 12 V. A 3S battery outputs 11.1 V which is simply maximizing these fans. Running them at 7.5 V is totally good still and is a much better upgrade than the stock fans. I just have a hard time not choosing to push them to output 100% cooling Potential especially on those hot days. I have never run into a situation however where the 7.5 V wasn’t enough to keep my vehicle cool. So more than likely you’re good to go at 7.5 V. Of course this all really has a lot to do with your gearing ratios etc. etc. and how hot it is where you live. And what kind of terrain your in. Running it in grass is a drastic difference than running it at a skate park or a dirt park. Prolonged grass runs really heat up your rig. It’s always good idea to pick up a infrared thermometer/heat gun. I like the laser grip 1080 just to have on hand to check those temperatures. If you dig through any of my videos that talk about temperature you can find the description the threshold you don’t want your motor or ESC to surpass. That’s awesome you’re being proactive and getting ready for the warm season. In my opinion having killer fans that are basher tough is awesome. I’ve got other videos to talk about best practices for providing shock mitigation to the installation of these fans. Any questions in that arena let me know. Bash on brother

Is your BEC adjustable? If not you might consider picking up an external BEC that way you can adjust it up to 7.4 V to maximize not only power to your fans but also power to your servo. I’m a really big fan of those adapter pieces that you’ll find From eBay. Of course these are for the 40 mm fans. Unless you run a splitter from the ESC. However what vehicle are you running? Or better yet what ESC are you running. Are you running 7.4 V to your system or 6 V? Really to get the most out of these high powered fans you throw a 3S battery into your vehicle and run both fans from the 3S battery. Then the fans run at 11.1 volts as opposed to 7.4 V or 6 V. But if your system is running 7.4 V then it might be easiest just to run a splitter from your ESC.

Do you still need a heat sink for the ebay fans?
@EastTactics
@EastTactics 3 жыл бұрын
Yes...The only way to hook the 40 mm fans to your motor it’s by a heat sink that’s compatible. Actually that’s been the most difficult part for me is to find a nice quality heat sink that secures really well that is also compatible with the 40 mm fans. If you’re just looking to get a nice simple to install fan set up for your motor you might consider getting The yeah racing fan heat sink combo that comes with two smaller fans ready to go for your moter. You can find that in the “Arrma Kraton V4 parts” master link a little bit farther down in the description. I’m not sure how invested you are in going with a high powered fans again the best way to maximize them as with a 3S battery. Also if you’re going to go to the 40 mm high power fans I would recommend the AliExpress fans over the eBay fans. I myself am going to be dropping a video in the next few days giving a step-by-step walk-through on how to modify one of those yea racing heat sinks to accommodate the 40 mm fans. Basically I’m going to be custom drilling my own holes so that the 40 mm fan can attach to it. It’s sort of a pain because where I need a drill is a tapered or angled surface but I’m still gonna do it. That way I’ll have a nice heat sink that wraps all the way around the motor secure is tight and I could also fit the 40 mm fans on to it. I also plan on implementing some shock navigation tactics with Sorbothane. It’s going to be the fifth video in my shock Mitigation playlist

I’m pretty sure yes, how many volts is output by your ESC? My guess is 6v or 8.4v. At the higher setting you’d be running the fans at about 75% power. Which for these fans is still quite good. Running from 3S batteries maximize these fans @ 11.1v though. Unless of course your ESC puts out more then 8.4V? Which I think stock it’s set at 6v, with the option to increase it. But if your ESC BEC is set at 6v, that’s not ideal. Adjust it up to 8.4v. Oh... I’m presuming you have the firma 160A smart ESC?

It’s hard to say, I felt like when those .25 amp fans were running off of 3s battery they felt pretty good. Are you running 6 V or 7.4 v from your receiver? What’s your BEC set at? If you’re running the V4 stock blx 185 then you have no choice but to only run6 V from your receiver and ESC. I wouldn’t feel very confident myself running the .25a from that set up. I would hold out and get one of the 1amp fans.

@@EastTactics cool thanks I am running stock blx. I'm seriously considering breaking down and getting the max 6 combo. Your videos are awesome. My steering was lagging even after upgrading to a good savox servo than I seen the snap ring trick, put in 3 of them and it now turns on a dime world of difference

I have a question the more amps the more powerful the fan so for example a fan with 2.20amps will that be more powerful then 1.0 amps?
@EastTactics
@EastTactics 3 жыл бұрын
That would be correct, however I might be a little bit leery of installing a fan that is that powerful, that would be way overkill and likely cause too much draw on your system.

That same website that I mentioned in the video. As soon as their website is back up and running which hopefully should be soon. You’ll be able to find covers there as well. Other than that you might search eBay

The fans are 40 mm x 40 mm. How many millimeters circumference is your motor? Search eBay Amazon or even check on the formums for what heat sink is compatible with your motor that could also fit a 40 mm fan on it. What all did NTFsend you? You mentioned you already bought a fan from him? Are you planning to use these high powered 40 mm fans for your ESC? Do you have the aluminum ESC mount? Check the description in the video for a link that I have titled “ High powered fan DIY” For many of the parts you might need. But Amazon does not carry the ESC mount. But I should have like a link for that as well.

If I'm running one of those ebay fans, do I connect it to the esc or receiver, And would I need a harness for that?

Depends... are you running to your motor, ESC... or both? Let me know. If running one fan...say to your motor, I would recommend running it to a small 850mah 3s battery. But if you want to run it into your reciever. You can. I assume your ESC fan is taking up your ESC out. You could also run a splitter out of your ESC. But remember running from your cars system rather than a 3S battery your only gonna be putting either 6v or 7.4V (depending on your set up, stock V4 is 6V. Stock V5 is 7.4) to your fan which is a lot less than 11.1 from the battery..

@@EastTactics running it from a 3s battery means I'd need that on & off switch too?, I'd rather it just turn on whenever I turn on the vehicle
@EastTactics
@EastTactics 3 жыл бұрын
Running to the 3s does mean that powering on your fans is either from a switch, or ust as soon as you plug it in the fan/s kicks on.

Additional facts; rpm is completely useless when it comes to cooling fans. It just sounds good for marketing. CFM is the only thing that counts. If advertised low rpm cooling fan", nobody would want it because of miss information that a lot of people have been fooled into believing, but a 32cfm or 35CFM fan with a 14.8v 4s connector is convenient and a power house, it's also pushing a insane amount of air flow and not just fan noise with high rpm numbers. Yes it would work beautifully. A little bit overkill as far as the weight and size goes but that’s OK. I only recommend the 850 mA battery because it’s just so small light.
