Well even though you not a professional archer I appreciate the knowledge you have imparted here. I used to hunt with a 58# Blackhawk recurve bow of coarse then there was no such thing as composite shafts and the heavy 3 were wood, aluminium ,and fiberglass and dad had a Bear compound bow never unstrung and never tuned and I tried to get him to have it checked befor useing it but well dads can be pig headed sometimes,sadly he paid full price for his stubbornness. Practicing just befor season opened (a month befor) he held his bow in his left hand and put a draw on it and just as he entered into the relief stage the bow bolster split in two parts. Well dad showed me what I should never do. And years later a friend had me use his bow with a full let off at full draw. It was awesome maybe one day I'll get one and get back to hunting as I once did. Thanks again for the knowledge imparted.
@jazbah2194 Жыл бұрын
Great video on this process, I shoot Recurve but with aluminum arrows and I use the raps to fletch as well... have to use really strong glue that takes days to dry if I glue them directly on the metal.

Store your CA glues in a ziplock or small peanut butter container. The bottles and nozzles are typically made of some type of nylon plastic and it will allow oxygen to seep in and makes the glue harden. Keeping them away from air as much as possible will extend the usable life of the product. I have a bottle that is approx 2 yrs old and some of it is hardened, but what isn't is still liquid and flowing just fine when I give it a squeeze like you normally would.

Good video, Eric, thank you. I'd be willing to bet all of those glues are cyanoacrylate (A.K.A. CA or Super Glue). Loctite 681925 is a kit with an activator pen and a bottle of CA for about $3.50 an the Amazon. If you keep CA glue in the fridge, it will last longer. My dad used to keep a 20 oz bottle in the fridge and refill a fingernail polish bottle for use. It would keep good for over a year.

I was thinking I was going to add some of the processes that I do, I will be jiggered if you didn't nail them all. Like you said it is everyone's own journey to find what works best for their own shooting habits and equipment, as long as you are willing to put the effort into it. There is Nothing like sitting in a tree or blind with a bow that you set up yourself and have 100% confidence in, NOTHING beets when that deer is so close and your heart is racing and your thinking he's going to hear my heartbeat!!, 10 days, 4 hours countdown for CT. Having a little work bench envy here not gonna lie. LOL. I seem to have less problems getting adhesive to hold the fletch on a wrap than I do getting them to stick to the carbon itself. Although I will admit the last few I have fletched I use the heat shrink wrap and fletch.
@Blazer02LS2 жыл бұрын
Glue not sticking to carbon can happen if the carbon still has release compound or worse, some type of polish on them to make them slick. I generally like to wipe them with pure acetone (avoid nail polish removers as they can have oils added to protect the skin) then just prior to gluing I wipe them with 90% alcohol.
