There's an easier version of this game called 1944. It's a Japanese ROM hack of this game. And pressing the A button allows you to fire the more powerful Laser weapon which can take out the cannons on the battleships and even the Ayako mother bombers more easily. That's better than a Lightning Strike and a reduction in your energy tank, if you ask me
