My grandmother died in 1978 and I inherited her arrowhead plant. Over 40 years later, I still have it and it's growing and thriving. I live in the midwest, and during the summer I put it on the patio and it really likes this. All in all, it's an amazing plant, so I've cloned it with cuttings and planted them in two smaller pots. They're doing well too. Finally, this is a plant that you can even grow in water....I have five or six cuttings in a vase, and they're also thriving and growing new leaves, although slowly.
@jakeryker5465 жыл бұрын
In the Philippines, those things are invasive xD if you don't burn the cuttings and they fall on the ground, they grow again @_@ Here, they take full sunlight. Prolly the humidity. The green ones outgrow the colored ones quickly. You can't compost them either because they root too quickly and bind the compost. They fruit too, after climbing on the trees. They get really huge.

That's interesting! Thanks for the info.

@floridahiker15034 жыл бұрын
They are invasive in Florida along with pothos and colocasia esculenta. Here in Orlando syngoniums and pothos are growing in the trees and colocasia esculenta is in the ditches and shorelines of every lake.
@merten92984 жыл бұрын
@stephanie sottolano there are a lot of syngoniums here in my place in the philippines, usually found in the mountains and forests! like what they said, they're actually pretty much everywhere and are pretty invasive! they're pretty much common plants here in the rural areas and many have it as common houseplants! they're so common that they're not that expensive here, only the rare ones are! but there aso a lot of alocasias here too! syngoniums, alocasias and aglaonemas are pretty easy to find here too, since they're all in the araceae family!

In Texas it grows wild! I have some in the ground that fell off the porch a few years ago and took over!! it will freeze back in winter and in spring it comes back and goes crazy. I give it miracle grow monthly but it loves to be out there. I take cuttings a lot and share with others and it grows even faster when I take cuttings from it!!

Thank you! May I say that I appreciate that you say-this is what works for me! I feel like there are so many self-proclaimed plant “experts* out there who haven’t grown plants for more than a few years. I have had plants for well over 40 years, and I am NO expert! Lol. I have failed and tried so many times I can’t even tel you! But I’ve also learned from experience. And let me tell you-I feel like I’ve had sooooo many types of plants, but that most syngoniums hate me ! Light is an issue, water is an issue…..as soon as I get new leaves, they seem to dry up quickly. So, I watered them a little more. I feel like my Maria was thriving outside, but I can’t keep her happy anywhere I put her in the house. I admire your beautiful collection and skill with these. Thank you for your tips!!! 💚💚

Thank you for this video! I couldn’t figure out why my syngonium was declining. No wonder, everything I read said low light! Moved all mine now to bright indirect light and hope they spring back.

I like your video. In Orlando Florida they are a pest all over the trees. You can see them 40 ft up in the trees. In the trees you can see they get morning or evening sun or dappled light at noon. They flower way up in the trees. I have them in my terrariums and they like the humidity. Syngonium Erythophyllum llano Carti Rd Panama is absolutely goergeous. I got mine from Steve's Leaves.

The ones you have are very pretty and I would love to have each one of them. Thank you again, I enjoy hearing any and all tips on plant care, because sometimes we run into a problem with one of our plants and don't know what to do, but then we listen to our plant friends and they might have a solution. I have a syngonium erythrophylum and I've had it for maybe 4 months. Had also read that they were low light plants so I but it further in the room. Literally had NO growth. It was still alive and well but it didn't grow. So I tried putting it in an east facing window and now it grows like crazy! It has more than doubled in size in just a few months. Been needing to cutting it back. I guess it likes bright indirect light but can tolerate low light.

Thank you for your informative video, could you say which type of soil you use please? I have one arrow head plant much like the first one you showed... I dont know its name either, but i will research it. It has spent the winter against the glass, in a south facing conservatory , the glass is reflective, so i suppose thats why it hasn't burnt! Hi Keely, do you think if the arrowhead plant is not exposed to enough light it colors might fade away becoming very light in color. I have one that is in low light for long time and is very light in color and it thins out.
@KeelyJoy5 жыл бұрын
My arrowhead I had in direct light had bleached, pale green leaves. My plants I keep in Indirect light have bright colorful leaves. We also have one where I work and it doesn't get much light at all. It is very pale green.
@CooKiesHouseCannabisCo4 жыл бұрын
yes, a plant with an inefficient amount of lux (light intensity) or lack of spectral input will develop a calcium (ATc3) deficiency, it also causes them to rapidly bolt in an attempt to find that light input they need to be happy. Try a Red/Blue LED plant light (they'll look pink almost violet purple), even a 9W single light bulb will work wonders for these in terms of chloroplast pigmentation intensity. :D

It was very well rooted in the ground, and deeply too, and I had to try and dig it out with my bare hands.. It was in two different places, with only two leafs each.. Hopefully I can get it to grow.. It even got 2 new leafs on the way too so I keep my hopes up high 🌞🤗

Your plants are gorgeous, but they are not nephthytis, they are syngonium podophyllum, a genus often confused with nephthytis because they look a lot alike. They are a form of aroid and one of my top 5 favorite plants EVER. I think you're right about the first one--it looks a lot like a white butterfly to me! xox

Check the soil again. Sometimes if they dry out in between waterings it can take a few waterings to get them back to normal
@anjuy69845 жыл бұрын
Check well whether it's overwatering or the period between the next watering is longer....either is bad for the plant

Do you find Arrowhead care is basically the same across varieties? I’d like to combine all of mine in one large pot. I realize the basic care is the same, but occasionally I’ve found it doesn’t work well to assume there are no differences. For example, Calatheas are quite different in what they will tolerate and what they need to thrive, even though the basic care instructions are always the same.
