As a child I used to cycle from Macclesfield to Alderly edge playing in the caves knicking apples from farmers trees and the summers were hot .. when I eventually found this book it made me want to read it at any moment that was free. Thank you for this audio book 😊👊👊

You lucky thing you! 😍 We were so smitten with the book we looked at driving from Dorset to Cheshire to visit in our little van, but when we looked it up we were really put off by descriptions of the traffic, lack of parking and huge visitor numbers. We wanted to experience it as you did! How special ❤️

Couldn't agree more! We bought this on cd about 5 years ago just before all the CDs stopped being sold! We had a campervan then. Driving around the Somerset levels in the dark, that first time of listening, looking for somewhere to park ...brrrr! Listening to the terrifying bits when they're lost underground! Shall never forget the feeling 😂 Although as I'm listening to more I'm wondering if it is the same version, it's the same narrator, but it's much more abridged than our version. He reads so well though 😊 such a shame that we don't bring English children up to speak nicely anymore.

@@ArrowOdenn Even when I was a kid I don't think there was a book that scared me, but when I was about six my dad (he was a head librarian) got me the unexpurgated Grimm's Tales For Young & Old (it was the Victorians who didn't know what to make of them so they sanitised them & classified them as fairy tales) for my birthday. There were a few stories in there that I found. . . disconcerting. That being said, if you find a copy it's well worth a look.

Oh! That's the version we have on CD Luckily we had a bit of a spree buying story CDs just before they flogged all their content to audible. The narrator's voice is very similar! When men spoke nicely and could develop that rich, fruity voice with authority as they matured 😉 wish I'd known they were going to flog it all off. We can't afford audible now and the children didn't look after the CDs like they should have. We lost some true favourites by them not being put back carefully in the box in the van😢
