Looking at the chewed up headphones, a pillow ripped to pieces...both my dogs know they are the guilty parties, both trying hard to pretend to be innocent. In fact they have the same look on their face as Ruby as I give them a Paddington bear stare...... anger subsides. Wonderful story ❤ , beautifully read again. I hope my dogs learn something from the story (they have to listen as I have no headphones)!!!!!

Most enjoyable. I have enjoyed this beautifully delivered narration of Father Brown. This is the first Father Brown I've herd though I've read many books with this wise character. Great, clear voice with so much depth. Mr. Stanhope, AKA Bitesized, thank you so much for this little gem that has brightened my afternoon. It was so thoughtful of you to remember your dear dog, Ruby who passed away in November of '21. May her memories stay with you always. Being a 'human' to three hounds, I too love dogs and those that have passed on are never forgotten. Thanks again - I've now become a subscriber and look forward to hearing you entertain me in the future.

Wonderful and wonderfully read. Thank you. I didn’t know that the great minister was an author. But it makes sense. I like the way he wove his point right at the end…very clever. Beautiful phrasing, intonation, and emphasis. I’m learning a lot from you and I’m enjoying it. It is one thing to read what one has read and another thing to read it as it would have been spoken. It seems to me (I’m learning) that if the inner voice has not been trained to read by listening to a proper reading then perhaps a considerable amount of comprehension gets lost. How else is someone supposed to distinguish the attitude of a line or where’s character is speaking to himself or to another character. Thank you for your craft and for your creative artistry.

Oh my God oh my God oh my God oh my God! You have made my day you don’t understand I just got in from the rain, I like the rain, And a cup of tea and this story is exactly what I need right now! I’m originally half Irish, so the rain reminds me of Ireland because it literally rains every day there, (sometimes it’s nice to get out of it though!) and I left when I was 15 going on 16 to come to London I was obsessed with London especially the 1920s and when I had a past life regression it turns out that that misprint I was last on this planet! Born in the 1920s..... Maybe that’s why I love this channel, yours Particularly because it’s so professionally done and your voice is so distinctive and I love detective stuff I’ve been listening to Dorothy L Sayers, I don’t know if you know her but she is amazing! So I’ve read all of Agatha Christie so many times that I had to look for somebody else and I found her and now father Brown, I remember this one priest who was so kind and we used to sit on his lap! It was so innocent back then, he was such a holy man and I remember I didn’t believe in God and I said to him prove to me that there is a God and what he said, I can’t remember it but it was such a moving speech and he described everything and it just made me think twice and when I had my near death experience then I found out what he Was right except there is no hell, we learn from our mistakes! People say oh you were hallucinating but I had no brain activity for four minutes and I was on life-support for three days! Sorry I don’t want to leave long comments anymore! Damn I’ve done it again! Anyway I was wondering if Dorothy L Sayers did short stories, maybe you could consider one of those. I hope you don’t think I’m being rude or pushy it’s just I’ve just discovered her! Anyway have a beautiful restful evening and night! Many thanks and blessings!✨🕊✨

I do indeed know Dorothy L. Sayers, I read all her books many years ago and enjoyed them thoroughly, I think like you I moved on to her after I exhausted Agatha Christie. Sayers did indeed write short stories, mostly featuring Lord Peter Wimsey, but alas they're still under copyright ... she died in the late 1950s I think, so her work isn't in the public domain for a few years yet. I do have a lot more detective stories on my to-do list for the months ahead though, more Max Carrados, Father Brown, Loveday Brooke and others, so do stay tuned for those!

@@BitesizedAudio I will! Thank you so much for your reply! You’re the first person I have met that also knows Dorothy L Sayers! And Agatha Christie was sold so many books and continues to do so, I’ve heard on the documentary about her life that it’s only 2nd to Shakespeare after the Bible, that is where she stands in the records of how many books that she has sold! I loved today’s story, One of the best stories of Father Brown I’ve heard yet. Apparently I haven’t scratched the surface there’s lots more when it comes to him! Thanks again and take care!

Foound yr comment re Fr Brown story on Bitesized audio - re yr near death experience, I had same & discovered same - there is no hell, only love - the ‘universe’ is made up of love. As a result I am a ‘different’ person who can ignore life’s harshness. Nevertheless, I pray for humanity for there is a lack of spiritual evolution - hence wars and other bloodshed.
@mariameere5807
@mariameere5807 6 ай бұрын
@@nilgiridreaming Wow that was a long loooong comment I left! It is amazing how much my life changed after that experience of the after life…. I felt like I was there for many years… to rejuvenate me, so I could have the strength to heal when I returned, and you are right about what is happening on the planet today. I truly believe that when we shine love on a situation, that it brings anything unlike itself up in order to be healed, released, forgiven and forgotten even!! And I see that happening to individuals at this pivotal time for humanity and as a collective! Awakening and awareness shows up what needs to be changed and it can seem like things are getting worse but in-fact it’s bc the issues are no longer hidden… they were always there but now they’re visible and therefore transformation becomes possible! I am so happy that you read my crazily long message! May all your hearts desires manifest in perfect divine timing! Bright blessings!🙏 🌹♥️🌹

Lovely story, any tale that includes a dog, without it being endangered, is likely to be one that I will enjoy. My young dog, who joined us during the long dark of 2020, was a bit jealous of my attention whilst I attempted to listen to the whole thing. He is a rebound dog, who chanced to be found as we were mourning our old sweet mastiff, Artemis. Although he has some seasoning to do, so far he has been a great goofy lot of fun. I have heard that complaint before, from a man with an English degree who did not discover GKC's genius until after he had graduated college and who was angry that he had never been taught about Chesterton. Chesterton was a brilliant man, one who predicted so much of what we are now dealing with, one of the most popular and influential writers of his day... But he was "memory-holed" upon his death, more's the pity.
@granthurlburt4062

One of the most popular and amusing and pithy writers in Canada was Mordecai Richler, but he is rarely taught or studied in Canadian universities. One of his biographers " he has discovered during various interviews and Richler-related events just how deep-seated the old antipathies remain, both among the Quebec nationalists whose project Richler savaged so effectively and among fellow Jews who saw him as a renegade exposing his community to the ridicule of anti-Semites. Richler likewise offends contemporary literary sensibilities, according to Foran, especially what he considers to be the "pinched and ahistorical and impoverished notion of literature" that currently rules the academy. "More and more we want our novels - even those novels taught at the university level - to have simple and clear, preferably progressive thematic concerns," he says. "They have to relate to progressive politics, they have to relate to social justice. What are these words doing mixed up with literature?"" Richler didnt need Canada Council grants (in fairness, the great Leonard Cohen did). One reads him for his pithy descriptions of contemporary jewish and Anglo-Quebecker life, and of Montreal and the Townships. Meanwhile little-read writers whose work suits the academy because it is progressive (complaining). It really shows that one needs to read more than just what (usually deservedly) is presented in English courses.

This was excellent - many thanks for it, and your other Father Brown narrations! I have not read all the comments, so perhaps someone has identified the source of Father Brown's quotation "With your Citizen Riquetti you have puzzled Europe for ten days". The reference (a quick search suggests) must be to Honoré Gabriel Riqueti, Count of Mirabeau and his involvement in the French Revolution - but who said that of him, in just what circumstances, I wonder?

I am always struck by how absolutely timely Chesterton's analyses are for today's world. Losing rationality in superstition and quasi-religious ideology which doesn't even read as such... Very much present. I suppose it's an endless cycle, or a sinusoid of history. Either way, what beauty and wit of writing, and what a fantastic central central concept! Also, what excellent narration. A delight overall.

May it help knowing your furry family member crossed over GOD'S RAINBOW BRIDGE knowing she was loved, will always be loved and always missed. The hole in your heart can never quite be filled, but keep your loving memories close and share the fun loving memories with others. The loss of a furry family member is always hard. It's the same as losing a family member. May GOD bless.

Words. Foppish; certain phrases, these English/European culture examples are far beyond me. Perhaps that's why I can't write the way these authors do. United States vernacular, sometimes doesn't seem to be very exciting. I don't know. I know I love these stories. Thank you Simon.

Towards the end of the story Father Brown tells of people believing in, I believe he was saying untruths, things not proven, and that reminded me in the Bible it says: But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. 1Timothy 4:7 Authorised Version.

Can someone please tell me what happened to the membership option to this channel? I was a member and now cannot access it? The link in the description brings me back to the playlist were I began! Thank you in advance.

Hello Felene, I'm sorry to hear you're still unable to access it - I wonder if this may be related to the device or browser you're using. Are you able to see the "Join" button, which should be next to the "Subscribe" button either directly under the video or under the channel banner on the main page? It's showing up at my end in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, and on my Android app - but it may be different on other phones, tablets etc. If you have any alternative browsers or devices perhaps it's worth trying the link on them to see if that helps? Do let me know if that works!

Hi Felene, I've just seen that you've been able to rejoin! Glad to know that, thanks so much. Did you identify the cause of the issue? Do take a look at the membership tab/community posts as I've posted a "members exclusive" story since your last visit, and there's also a preview of the next story available too. Best wishes

It wasn't me! I'm not really familiar with the show as it wasn't shown on this side of the pond (that I'm aware of, maybe someone can correct me!), except that a few commenters have made the comparison on some of my previous stories so I looked it up. I believe the narrator was Edward Everett Horton, who I'm more familiar with from his roles in several of the Astaire and Rogers films of the 30s, which I often used to watch as a child when they were shown on British television during the school holidays. He used to do a slow "double-take" I remember. Is that who you are thinking of? I must confess I can't quite hear it myself, but you're by no means the only person to mention Peabody/Edward Everett Horton, so I'm out-numbered...

Yes, I know... the dog in the illustration is actually my dog, who sadly died recently so I was prompted to choose this story as something of a tribute to her (she'd have helped Father Brown solve the case too, I'm sure). Thanks for listening and for your kind comments.
